Summarize Written Text

The first task of the PTE Writing section is Summarize Written Text which appears right after the PTE Speaking section. PTE Speaking and PTE Writing are combined as one section in the exam, but they are scored separately and you will receive a breakdown separately for both reading and writing. For the Summarize Written Text task, you will be given a reading text which you need to summarize into one sentence between 5 and 75 words. You have a total of 10 minutes allocated for the reading portion of the PTE test. The overall time for the writing section depends on the number of questions you get, for example, if you get two Summarize Written Text questions and one Write Essay question, you will have 40 minutes for the whole writing section. Hence, your entire objective for this task should be to summarize the given passage into one complex sentence. To elaborate further, the expectation is that you will create a single sentence with a complex structure that contains a main clause and one or more supporting clauses. A good reader is someone who is able to quickly read a passage and comprehend it well. If you do not possess good reading skills, you should begin by improving them. You should note down 6 to 8 keywords and key phrases from your reading, as well as the central or main idea of the passage, which relates to the topic.
