Shoshana Schiff 125th ECBA President Shoshana Schiff, the 125th President of the Essex County Bar Asso- ciation, is the 9th woman to lead the largest and oldest county Bar Associ- ation in New Jersey. Shoshana is a partner at the firm McMani- mon, Scotland & Baumann, LLC located in Roseland, New Jersey. Prior to joining that firm, Shoshana practiced at Trenk, DiPasquale, Della Fera & Sodono for nineteen years. Throughout her career she has concentrat- ed her practice in the areas of restructuring and bankruptcy, debtor/ creditor law, and commercial litigation. When Shoshana joined McMani- mon, Scotland & Baumann in 2018, she began to focus on redevelopment law in addition to her other practice areas. Well respected by her peers, she has been named as a Super Lawyer, and prior to that a New Jersey Rising Star, by the New Jersey Super Lawyers Magazine and was listed in the “Top 40 Under 40” by the New Jersey Law Journal in 2011. Shoshana has long been civic minded and her extensive service to the profession and the legal community has guided her journey to the office she assumes today. She has made it a priority to be meaningfully involved in the Essex County Bar Association since her first year of law school when she helped organize a pro bono program. In addition to serving as an Officer and Trustee, over the years Shoshana has been an officer of YLS, Bar Goes Local Chair and Chair of the Debtor/Creditor Section. Consistent with her desire to give back to her community and make a difference in the practice of law, Shoshana serves on the Lawyers Advisory Committee for both the United States District Court and United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. In addition, she has been a board member of International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation -New Jersey Network (IWIRC-NJ) since 2007 and served as Co-Chair of the Board from 2012 to 2015. She is a member of several bar associations including the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey, New Jersey State Bar Association, New Jersey Women Lawyer’s Association, and Monmouth County Bar Association. A proud graduate of the Seton Hall University School of Law, she has been a member of the Alumni Council since 1999 and actively supports the law school and its students in many ways. Throughout her career, Shoshana has served the community selflessly, generously offer- ing her time and expertise to organizations addressing myriad legal and social issues. Shoshana has dedicated more than a decade to the mission of Partners for Women and Justice, a non- profit dedicated to providing legal services to low income victims of domestic violence. Shoshana has been an active Board member since 2011 and served as the Spring Benefit Chair and on the Fundraising and Governance Committees. She is a passionate ambassador for the organiza- tion and the people it serves. Raising awareness of the challenges facing women in the profession and in the community has been a hallmark of Shoshana’s life’s work. She endeavors to lift up her female colleagues, promote diversity in all of her organizations and at her firms, and mentor new attorneys and law students. Her dedication to the future of the profession in this manner has oft been recognized. Her numerous accolades include being named Woman of the Year by IWIRC-NJ (2019) and the ECBA Outstanding Young Lawyer Award (2007). Shoshana, and the indelible mark her service efforts leave on a community, changes future generations for the better as both of her alma ma- ters have recognized. She was awarded the Seton Hall University School of Law Exemplary Service Award (2016) and the Lehigh University Alumni of the Year Award for the Class of 1995 (2015). Shoshana served as the Law Clerk to the Honorable Robert Feldman, J.S.C., Monmouth County from 1998-1999. She earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law (1998), where she was a member of the Legislative Journal, Co-Chair of the Women’s Law Forum, SBA Senator and was awarded the Mary Franzese Humanitarian Award at graduation. Shoshana received her B.A. from Lehigh University (1995) where she was involved with many student organizations and received several awards including the Class of 1904 Award and the Sorority Woman of the Year.

ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS Diana C. Manning Bressler, Amery & Ross, P.C. Civil Practice Award Diana Manning is the Managing Principal of Bressler, Amery & Ross, P.C. Diana also Co-Chairs the firm’s Business & Commercial Litigation practice group and spearheads its Appellate practice team. She received her J.D. and her undergraduate degrees from Rutgers University. Diana has over two decades of experience in complex commercial litigation at both the trial and appellate levels. She is certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney and has developed a successful track record of trial verdicts and settlements, especially in complex matters. She is also an accomplished appellate lawyer who has participated in six matters before the New Jersey Supreme Court, including arguing four times. In addition to practicing law, Diana is an avid presenter and author. Notably, she authored the New Jersey Chapter of The Law of Lawyer’s Liability: Fifty-State Survey of Legal Malpractice, which provides an overview of the laws governing attorney malpractice in each state. Diana has held numerous offices in many professional and legal industry organizations. Diana served on the District XA Ethics Committee for 10 years and was appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to serve as Chair from 2017-2019. She is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Board of Trustees, and is currently Chair of its Amicus Committee, and Vice-Chair of its Appellate Practice Committee. She is also President-Elect of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Associa- tion and is a Past President of Trial Attorneys of New Jersey, the Morris County Bar Association, and the Morris County Bar Foundation. For her dedication to her practice and work, Diana has received countless awards including the \"Professional Lawyer of the Year\" Award presented by the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law in 2017 and 2021 and the Best Lawyer 2020 Professional Malpractice Law – Defendants \"Lawyer of the Year\" award. In 2021, she was recognized in the NJBIZ Best 50 Women in Business Honoree List, Power 50 Law List, and Leaders in the Law Honoree List. Theodore N. Stephens II Acting Prosecutor, Essex County Criminal Practice Award Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II’s demonstrated commitment to the Essex legal community, the office of the Prosecutor, and to the residents of Essex County has garnered the respect and praise of his colleagues and adversaries alike. Ted graduated from Glassboro State College (Rowan University) and Seton Hall University School of Law where he received the Msgr. Thomas Fahy Award for student activism. Upon graduation he served as Judicial Clerk to the Hon. Paul T. Murphy, J.S.C., and there- after worked for the Unisys Corporation for nine years. Ted began his public service career as Corporation Counsel for the City of East Orange. He was then appointed as a Judge of the Municipal Courts of East Orange and Orange. He served as a judge for 17 years, “sitting” in six municipal courts. While on the municipal bench he maintained a pri- vate law practice in Maplewood, New Jersey with his friend and colleague, Edna Y. Baugh. In 2011, Ted was elected the Essex County Surrogate, also serving as the Deputy Clerk for the Superior Court, Chancery Division, Probate Part. In 2018 he was appointed to his current post as Acting Essex County Prosecutor by Governor Philip D. Murphy. As the chief law enforcement officer for Essex County, he leads the largest and busiest Prosecutor’s Office in the state with over 400 employees, including 130 Assistant Prosecutors. The Office’s core mission is to “seek justice, to serve justice and to do justice.’’ That is achieved by investigating and prosecuting crimes fairly, thoroughly and with integrity. Ted has long been active in local and legal communities, working with numerous community groups in East Orange including the East Orange YMCA, where he has served for 20 years, five of which as its President. Ted also maintains an active posture in the legal profession, serving on New Jersey Supreme Court Committee; is a past President of the Essex County Municipal Court Judges Association; and a current active member of several Bar Associations. Ted cherishes the opportunity to mentor young lawyers as well as young people in the community. He enjoys the camaraderie and commitment to developing youth and serving the community through his service to several legal and community-based organizations.
SAMUEL S. SAIBER PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Exhibiting the highest level of integrity, professionalism, collegiali- ty, and advocacy, Christine A. Amalfe is a nationally recognized and respected labor and employment attorney. She is also an admired leader as the Chair of the Employment & Labor Law Group at Gibbons P.C. Christine manages lawyers across four of the eight Gibbons offices, overseeing all aspects of one of the firm’s most active business units, with clients among the world’s best-known companies. Christine also is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and serves as Human Resources General Counsel. Christine has been listed among the region’s leading employment lawyers by several highly regarded organizations. She handles claims of sexual harassment and discrimination, as well as state and federal whistleblower claims. Her practice often brings her before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, National Futures Association, and the American Arbitration Association. She also shares her skills as a mediator for cases involving discrimination, harassment, and invasion of privacy in matters involving sexual identity and sexual orientation. Proactively striving to represent her clients holistically, Christine works to prevent or resolve employment disputes before they lead to litigation. She advises clients with respect to compliance issues and provides in-depth counseling on workforce issues. Additionally, Christine conducts internal investigations of employee discrimination, harassment, and other alleged misconduct. She develops and presents employment practices training sessions, as well as comprehensive employee handbooks and manuals, all designed to help clients address myriad complex issues with integrity and professionalism, and based on a solid legal foundation. In addition to her work with corporations, Christine has a strong higher education practice, with an emphasis on helping these clients achieve campus-wide compliance with Title IX and federal and state anti-discrimination laws. She also has prepared custom training programs for institutions, focusing on their responsibilities under Title IX, and has conducted numerous investigations for higher education clients. Christine is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys and sits on the NJSBA’s Higher Education Committee. Throughout her career, Christine has been dedicated to the advancement of women at Gibbons and throughout the legal profession and business community. She co-founded the Gibbons Women’s Initiative, a Catalyst Award-winning effort involving more than 60 Gibbons women and 2,000 invited women participants who engage with each other in high- quality educational, social, charitable, and mentoring programs. Within the broader legal community, Christine is a member of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association, earning the organization’s Women’s Initiative & Leaders in Law Platinum Award (2008). In addition, she previously served as Trustee for NJSBA’s Women in the Profession Section and on its Task Force on Work-Life Balance. In May 2022, Christine will become the Second Vice President of the NJSBA. Christine graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University College of Law, where she was Order of the Coif and Senior Editor of the Syracuse Law Review, and earned her undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Seton Hall University. Among numerous other honors and recognitions, she earned a New Jersey Law Journal Lifetime Achievement Award and the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey’s Trial Bar Award, both in 2015, when she was also elected a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS Hon. Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. County Executive, Essex County Walter Lucas Special Merit Award Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr., (Joe D., as everyone calls him) has changed the face of Essex County both fiscally and physically in the past 19 years. Running Essex in the most efficient manner, he has turned the Coun- ty into a model for good government. He raised the bond ratings from junk level to AAA, eliminated unnecessary contracts, cut expenses, reduced the workforce and increased revenue. The Hospital Center, Correctional Facility and Juvenile Detention Facility are widely recognized, allowing recurring revenue streams through shared services agreements with Federal, State and other county governments. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the County Executive initiated free testing in March 2020, made sure Essex County was the first county to open county-run vaccination centers and hosted weekly food distribution events to combat food insecurity. Additionally, he initiated several grant programs which helped small businesses and residents alike. Early in his tenure, Joe D. guided the restoration of the Historic Courthouse, and completely overhauled the Government and Court Complex, including the addition of open spaces, a 1,000- car parking garage and tributes to Essex County dignitaries, including members of the bench and bar. His dedication to the legal community is evident in the new jury quarters, the LeRoy Smith Public Safety Building, converted from an old jail, a Correctional Facility in Newark, the ad- dition of the award-winning Martin Luther King, Jr. Justice Center and his newly announced plans to construct a family-focused Family Court Building that will meet the needs of the court and the families it serves in a safe and caring environment. According to Joe D., he and his team of 3,500 County employees are working together to continue Putting Essex County First. Rachael A. Honig Former Acting United States Attorney District of New Jersey Federal Practice Award Rachael A. Honig, is a highly respected, accomplished attorney recognized throughout New Jersey and the country for her intellect, work ethic and professionalism. She most recently served as the Acting United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey from January 2021 to Decem- ber 2021. She was only the second woman to hold that position, Acting or otherwise, in the Office’s 232-year history. As the Acting U.S. Attorney, she was responsible for overseeing all federal criminal prosecutions and the litigation of all civil matters in New Jersey in which the federal government has an interest. Between the offices in Newark, Camden, and Trenton, Rachael supervised a staff of approximately 170 federal prosecutors, and approximately 130 support personnel. Rachael began her legal career as a litigation associate at Wilmer, Cutler, Pickering, Hale & Dorr in Washington, D.C. after clerking for the Hon. Mary M. Schroeder of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She then worked at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for just under fourteen years from 2003 to 2016, serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division, and Counsel to the U.S. Attorney. In 2016 Rachael left government to work as a litigation and compliance investigations counsel at Celgene Corporation before returning to the U.S. Attorney’s Office as the First Assistant U.S. Attorney in March 2018. Rachael received her J.D. with High Honors from the University of Chicago Law School, where she was a member and Comment Editor of The University of Chicago Law Review. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago.
ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS Betsy W. Bresnick Skoloff & Wolfe, P.C. Family Practice Award As a recognized leader in the family law legal community, Betsy W. Bresnick has demonstrated herself to be a respected adversary, advisor, mentor and colleague. Betsy graduated from Boston University in 1981 and obtained her J.D. from New England School of Law in 1985. Her career has included working for two sitting judges when they were in private practice, the Hon. Bridget Stecher, J.S.C., and the Hon. David B. Katz, P.J.Fam., as well as with the firms Day Pitney and Kozyra & Hartz, LLC. Since 2011, Betsy has practiced family and matrimonial law at Skoloff & Wolfe. During her time at the firm, Betsy has represented high net worth individuals in all aspects of family law litigation. Betsy has successfully litigated family law matters in arbitration, the trial court, and in matters before the Appellate Division and Supreme Court of New Jersey. Betsy also assists in presenting educational programs on a variety of family law topics to organiza- tions such as the Barry Croland Inn of Court. Betsy has published articles on cutting edge issues in matrimonial law, such as when the tax laws changed in 2018 creating a significant impact on the negotiation of alimony and child support. Betsy previously served as an alternate member of the Township of Livingston Planning Board and as a member of the Supreme Court Ethics Committee, District VB. She is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Essex County Bar Association, the Barry I. Croland Northern New Jersey Family Law Inns of Court and she serves as an Early Settlement Panelist for the Family Part, Essex County. She has been recognized as a New Jersey Super Lawyer since 2015. Joseph A. Deer Bashwiner & Deer, LLC General Practice Award Joseph A. Deer, a founding partner of the firm Bashwiner & Deer, LLC, found his way to the law following a successful career as a small business owner and professional athlete. Joe believes in truly being part of the fab- ric of the community in which one works, lives and raises a family, and that has helped shape his legal career. He primarily practices civil, munici- pal, real estate, construction and insurance defense law, but has handled family, estate and other matters as well. Enjoying a mutual respect with his clients and an appreciation of how life’s issues and challenges overlap, he endeavors to offer thoughtful legal advice, giving due consideration to all of his clients’ needs and concerns. Joe also serves as the Public Defender for the Township of West Orange, a position he has held for six years. Prior to co-founding his current firm with his professional mentor and friend, Jack Bashwiner, Joe practiced for five years at the Gibbons P.C. firm in Newark. He joined Gibbons in the civil litigation group following a judicial clerkship with the Hon. John Pisansky, J.S.C. (Ret), Union County. Joe shares his time and talents by volunteering with both legal and community or- ganizations. He served for three years on the District V Fee Arbitration Committee, in- cluding serving as Chair. Celeste’s practice at Argentino Fiore Law & Advocacy LLC consists of family law, civil rights litigation, school law, special education and anti-bullying work, as well as providing legal assistance for the transgender and non-binary identified community. Celeste represents numerous clients, pro bono, through their private practice. Howev- er, Celeste’s most significant contribution has, without a doubt, been in their founding of the Trans Affirming Alliance, a New Jersey Non-Profit Corporation. The mission of the Trans Affirming Alliance is to partner with LGBTQ+ centers and projects to deliver within the partner organizations’ existing facilities services for transgender and gender diverse communities. Under Celeste’s leadership, the Trans Affirming Alliance provides legal guidance for name changes, gender marker changes and direct legal representation, mental health counseling, career counseling, various support groups and specialized health and wellness services for the transgender community. In 2021, the Trans Af- firming Alliance was awarded the Social Justice Champion Award by the Newark LGBTQ Communi- ty Center. In addition to their practice of law, Celeste does a significant amount of work advocating for the advancement of LGBTQ rights. Celeste’s work as an LGBTQ educator, activist, and advocate began when they were an undergraduate student at American University, where they led the LGBTQ un- dergraduate organization. Celeste was later the president of Outlaws, the LGBTQ law student group at Rutgers University School of Law in Camden. Currently, Celeste holds several appointed posi- tions that allow them to advocate for LGBTQ rights on county and state-wide levels. To name a few, they serve as a Trustee of the NJSBA, they are the immediate past Chair of the LGBT Rights Sec- tion of the New Jersey State Bar Association, as well as a member of the Section’s Legislative Com- mittee, the Essex Vicinage’s Advisory Committee on Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engage- ment, and the New Jersey Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Public Access to Court Records. Robert S. Roglieri Trenk Isabel Siddiqi & Shahdanian, P.C. Outstanding Young Lawyer Award Robert S. Roglieri, a partner at Trenk Isabel Siddiqi & Shahdanian, P.C., concen- trates his practice in the areas of restructuring and bankruptcy, commercial litigation, and municipal law. In this regard, Robert has experience in commercial litigation matters in- volving fraudulent transfers, breach of contract disputes, partnership disputes and emergent proceed- ings seeking temporary restraints and injunctions. Robert also has extensive bankruptcy practice expe- rience including Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 matters. In addition to this practice, Robert is a committed volunteer, regularly providing pro bono repre- sentation to victims of domestic violence through Partners for Women and Justice and for Chapter 7 debtors through Legal Services of New Jersey and Volunteer Lawyers for Justice. Robert is the incoming Secretary of the Young Lawyers Section of the Essex County Bar Foun- dation. Prior to this role, he co-chaired the annual Vincent J. Apruzzese Mock Trial Competition for high school students in Essex County. In addition, Robert has been an active member of the New Jersey Turnaround Management Association, participating in the board for its NextGen division and currently serving as the NextGen co-chair. He sits on Seton Hall University School of Law’s Graduates of the Last Decade (G.O.L.D.) alumni committee. As a law student, Robert served as a Senior Editor for the Seton Hall Law Review. He also worked as a student attorney in the Center for Social Justice’s Civil Litigation and Practice Clinic, where he represented individual defendants in consumer fraud and foreclosure matters. During his third year, Robert served as President of the Rodino Law Society and was the recipient of the 2013 Luigi Franzese Award, which honors a law student who exhibits academic excellence, outstanding leadership and service to the community. Following law school graduation, Robert served as an intern to the Hon. David H. Ironson, J.S.C., Morris County.
