Botanical Exhibition 2021

OF ART AND WINE: PARA SA KALIKASAN The “Of Art And Wine: Para sa Kalikasan” Philippines-Malaysia Joint Art Exhibi- tion opened on July 29, 2021, to commemorate World Nature Conservation Day. The two-month art exhibition saw the collaboration between artists from the Phil- ippines and Malaysia in raising awareness for native species through the visual arts. The event was made possible through a partnership between Conrad Manila and the Philippine Fauna Art Society in collaboration with the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Biodiversity Management Bureau. The esteemed walls of Gallery C became a venue and a testi- mony of how prestigious institutions like Conrad Manila support the advocacy of conserving and protecting wildlife and its habitat. Fueled by the passion and dedication of the Philippine Fauna Art Society (PhilFAS) and Conrad Manila’s strong social responsibility, the Filipino and Malaysian artists produced more than one hundred sixty remarkable artworks. Due to its initial success, Conrad Manila and the Philippine Fauna Art Society ex- tend the art exhibition through a second segment, “Of Art and Wine: Para Sa Ka- likasan” Part II: Botanical Art Exhibition. The sister organization of PhilFAS, the Philippine Botanical Art Society (PhilBAS) will exhibit eighty-six artworks show- casing native flora species rendered in the botanical art style. The exhibition will be using physical and virtual platforms. Twenty-three selected works are exhibited at Gallery C while the rest is on a 360-degree virtual gallery accessible on the PhilBAS website philbas.org. The exhibit started on September 18 and will end on October 23, 2021.

Bing Famoso, the founder of PhilFAS and PhilBAS, commented, “We realized that, as artist advocates, we cannot feature only one facet of our biodiversity”. Ms. Famoso believes that subsequently exhibiting botanical art will provide the platform for both fauna and flora species to be represented. The Philippines and Malaysia boast thousands of endemic flora species, making them megadiverse countries, two of the only seventeen countries considered as such. The “Of Art and Wine: Para Sa Kalikasan” Part II: Botanical Art Exhibition hopes to strengthen the advocacy of conserving and protecting the rich biodiversity of both countries and heighten the awareness of the conservation status of endangered flora species.
