ST. CUTHBERTS WANDERERS Crossan, George Murphy and William Murray. The club’s first meeting took place in St Cuthberts Schools shelter with members committing to saving three pounds each to get the club going. They have been working hard during the off-season both on and off the field in order to ensure that they are able to hit the ground running. So long as they are able to retain their current group of players and perhaps make one or two quality additions they should be in with a good chance of a successful campaign. The team will now be keen to get started and a good start would provide them with momentum for the rest of the year. Their next fixture sees them take on Crichton at home in the South of Scotland League on Saturday the 20th September. St Cuthbert Wanderers is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section however as they also run youth teams. Theses sides look to provide youngsters from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is vital for any side to be able to produce their own talent particularly in the current financial climate. It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters are able to develop over the coming years. There is much to admire about the set-up that St Cuthbert Wanderers currently has in place and this is thanks to all of the hard work that has been put into the club. Hopefully they will be able to continue in the same manner for many years to come and Football Focus Magazine would like to wish them the best of luck.56 Issue 49
