How long have you been on the Rolando Community Council board? What inspired you to join? Jackie Flohr: I am a newly elected Director, but I served on a previous board from 2013-2015. I really enjoy all the members of the board and have been getting more involved by being on the community events team. I am excited to keep the momentum of the current board moving forward. As old traditions have passed, it is hopeful and helpful to build new ones. As a Director of RCC, what project are you most excited about working on? Jackie Flohr: A few years back, one of the then-board members started the holiday decoration contest. I've continued on with this and have been getting the whole community involved by having neighbors be the judges, not just the members of the CET. I received so much positive feedback from the community from last year's contest that I'm excited to see how many more neighbors join in this year. What do you do in your spare time? Jackie Flohr: I spend time with my family and friends. Once a week I enjoy walking my dog at Sunset Cliffs. I also have become very happy by participating in the water aerobics class at the Kroc Center. I am getting myself back in shape, reconnecting with neighbors and even found a former classmate from Crawford. The following data was obtained from our Crime Analysis Unit. For theHOUSING ACTION PLAN PRESENTED TO COUNCIL By 9TH DISTRICT COUNCILMEMBER GEORGETTE GOMEZ On July 21, 2017, I released my Housing Action Plan which proposes specific steps to increase the affordable housing stock and tackle the affordable housing crisis in San Diego. My proposals are: • Increase affordable and middle income housing stock • Preserve existing affordable housing • Provide innovative housing solutions for the homeless • Identify public lands for housing opportunities • Create statewide floor area ratio incentives in transit priority areas • Seek grant opportunities for new housing development • Develop an affordable housing measure for the November 2018 ballotCOUNCILMEMBER GEORGETTE GOMEZ The plan provides innovative solutions, such as reducing development costs for affordable housing and companion units; increasing developers’ fair share of affordable housing; evaluating public land to determine its feasibility for transit-oriented affordable development; and working with all of our partners to bring forward a housing revenue ballot measure that works for all San Diegans. We need to identify all available opportunities to improve housing affordability in the city. Now is the time to bring all stakeholders together to create a solution. We must have an open conversation about how to deploy our limited resources to create transformative change in our housing landscape, driven by our common interest in making San Diego a better place to live, work and play, but more importantly lift up people’s lives by providing a healthier place to live. You can view the full plan at www.sandiego.gov/cd9.

14 | SEPTEMBER 2017 BY BOB SCOTT, COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT TEAMO n June 28, RCC President Doug Lister and I met for an hour in Rolando with Keryna Johnson, District 9 com- munity representative for Rolando, and other membersof  Councilmember Georgette Gomez’s staff. We reviewed threeimportant items that need attention in our community: ClayPark; the condition of the Cartagena-Lorca Catwalk (Paseo LasPalmas); and flooding that occurs along the southern few blocksof Alamo Drive during winter rains.Clay Park improvements. As you may know, there are some parkimprovements in the planning stages for Clay Park to be fundedthrough the settlement with BLVD 63. The vision and plans forthe park, however, cannot be completed with these limited funds.Councilmember Gomez’s team members helpfully provided alist of grants that can be awarded to communities for certaintypes of park improvements.
