Photographer D Gregory Photo When people come into the studio do you feel their expectations rise straight away? We try to raise expectations before the customer even sets foot in the studio. We’re available at the customers convenience on the other end of the phone or online through our app, Skype, FaceTime or email. A customer today said “This is where I want to be. It just feels like a creative place. You expect a great tattoo because it fills you with trust immediately which leads you directly into trusting your artist” If you had to describe TOKYOTATTOO in 3 words.. Russ, Adam, Liviu and Tyler form our tattoo family. As the manager I set high standards of customer service and make sure the studio runs smoothly. The artists and guest artists that join the TOKYOTATTOO brand buy into that flair for individuality and personalised service. With your embassadors..how do you choose them and why are they so important to TOKYOTATTOO? Our Ambassadors are beautiful canvases of art ranging from international models and celebrities to musicians and magazine columnists. They are part of the family and brand ethos showcasing their talents and what they do for the tattoo industry. Each ambassador is chosen for a variety of reasons within their given career but ultimately to change peoples perception of who, what and why people have tattoos. We have a great team of guys and girls who are regularly at the studio, you can check them out on our Vimeo and YouTube channel. All our ambassadors (Kayla Cadorna, Vince Freeman, Lauren Brock, Chris Millington, Leah Harris, Calum Best, Ellis Cooper, Diego Barrueco, Lauren Capulet and Ian Solano) play a vital role in the development and awareness of TOKYOTATTOO.
Photographer Erotic Ink facebook.com/EroticInk2014 Model : Kayla Cadorna Model : Lauren BrockModel : Lauren Brock & Lauren Capulet Where did the name TOKYOTATTOO come from? Tokyo is synonymous with fashion, design, state-of-the-art and generally everything that’s cool. Not to mention, it is arguably the birthplace of modern tattooing. Dean is a fan of alteration, so putting Tokyo and Tattoo together he created a brand name and logo that could be clearly identified with. Where do you see TOKYOTATTOO being in 5 years time? In 5 years time we should have a few more studios. Cheltenham was always the starting point. We already have two cities in mind for the next studios - watch this space... the TOKYOTATTOO brand is set for meteoric growth.
Since they released their debut album ‘Take To The Skies’ back in 2007, St. Albans outfit Enter Shikari have been sweeping the nation and crowds overseas with their out-of-the-ordinary and experimental stylings married with important messages covering economical, sociological and political issues that affect us all. In 2015, with the release of their fourth album ‘The Mindsweep’, their message is still strong, true and important, and their scope of influence and sound has never been more obtuse. We caught up with the guys amidst their headline tour of the UK to see what the mindsweeping game is all about. First off, congratulations on the success of your new album, ‘The Mindsweep’ How does it feel to finally have it out there? I feel like a whale that’s got in amongst a shoal of shrimps after a long and lonely journey through barren seas. Where did the album’s title come from, and why did you settle on this to name the record? Deciding on the title is usually the most long and arduous process. We scour the lyrics and eventually something seems to surface that feels right and seems to represent the THE ALBUM DIVES INTO A album collectively - ‘The Mindsweep’ seemedQuestions : Zach Redrup to do just that. The Mindsweep as a concept VARIETY OF ISSUES WHERE is basically the withholding, disparaging or discrediting of new ideas by those in IT BECOMES APPARENT THAT power. 59 ENTER SHIKARI Many publications have noted this to be your most experimental release to date, and in its creation you created a chart with one axis based on the heaviness of a song and the other based on how experimental it is. Were there many other far more experimental tracks that didn’t make the final cut? Yes, a few certainly. Spending weeks in a studio sometimes you need to go to the extremes either to keep thing elastic and fun or to test yourself and keep things limitless. As a band that draws in so many different sounds and filters it into such a cohesive sound, it’s interesting to know where your influences come from. What would you say were the biggest influences behind the album’s creation? I was listening to a lot of abstract electronica; from Brian Eno to Frederic Robinson, a lot of post-punk; from Joy Division to Fugazi, a load of classical; from Stravinsky to Dvorak. You’re currently on the road in support of the record.
