Your music has been labeled from alt rock, post hardcore to pop punk.. how would you label Hawthorne Heights at this very moment?HEIGHTS I think in general, we would consider ourselves a rock band. Typically bands don’t try to think of genres when writing music. We scream a little bit, we singWehadachillwith Hawthorne a lot. I try to write lyrics that are generally helpful, and hopefully can provide help forHeights’ lead vocalist JT, and whatever the listener is looking for. We always want our music to have aggression togot to know just what him and it, while keeping a thin layer of pop there as well.his band has been through inthe last 10 years. How they It’s been 10 years since your first album but how has your music evolved from thedealt with the tragic death iconic The Silence in Black and White?of guitarist, Casey Calvert, I think we have evolved as people, and as songwriters over the last 10 years. Peopleand keep their debut album seem to always connect with the first thing they have heard from a band, while the‘The Silence in Black and band wants to feel like the latest thing they release is their best work. I think, inWhite’ alive a decade after general, we are happy just writing and releasing music.its release.. Is this still a favourite with both the band and the fans? If not which would you say defines Hawthorne Heights the most? As a band, we have always relied on letting our fans have a great amount of input into what we perform live. I feel like if they are supporting us and coming to the shows, they should be able to hear the songs they want to hear. So as a band, we take ourselves out of the equation. We get most of our joy out of writing songs, and then seeing and hearing the fans sing along. As songwriters, we have to like every song we have written...otherwise, how could we believe in them? Recently you’ve been touring around the globe playing this album in full for your 10 year anniversary.. Does it feel the same playing it as it did back in the day? It feels totally different, because on this tour we are playing some of these songs live for the first time. During the early portion of our career, we were playing support sets, which are shorter. So we skipped 3 or 4 of these songs and never really came back to them. It has been a lot of fun being re-inspired with our older songs. And it’s truly great to be able to play them for the fans, finally. Ryan Watson
