ConceptualizingInterfaceBetweenFurther-HigherEducation               PHD              Thesis            SampleAbstract  Thisthesiscoversatheory-inspired,conceptualaccountinvolvingorganizationalchangeatthecurrentinterfaceatfurtherandhighereducation.Inthisspecificthesis,theeducationinEnglandwillbefocusedon,especiallyduringtheperiodof1988to2008.Itisalsofocusesoncollegesinfurthereducation,providingcoursesinhighereducationasoverseenbyadifferenthighereducationsector.Thestudywillalsolookintothefunctionandroleofboundaryorganizations,aswellasthenatureoftheboundaryandexchangesworkwhichtakesplacebetweenthesetwosectors.Introduction  Thisthesisistheory-inspired,andaconceptualinvestigationonorganizationalandinstitutionalchangewhichhastakenplacethroughoutaperiodoftwentyyears,inbothHigher Education (HE) and Further Education (FE) sectors in the field ofpost-compulsoryeducation.Itbridgesthegapinthefieldofresearch,especiallytheevolvingrelationshipbetweenbothHEandFEsectorswhichitwillbediscussedaslackingasubstantialtheoreticallyinformedresearchbodyinordertocomplementapolicy-basedempiricalwork.ThisthesiswillalsosynthesizearangeofdifferentdisciplinarytraditionsinordertocreateananalyticalandconceptualframeworkforunderstandingcurrentlyemerginghybridformsofFEandHEorganizationalformsandthe organizationaland institutionalchanges in the delivery ofHR which arenon-universitybased.
ConceptualizingInterfaceBetweenFurther-HigherEducation               PHD              Thesis            Sample   TheFieldofQuestioning      Thefieldofquestioninginvestigatedinthisparticularthesisinvolvesthedeliveryof   FE-HEattheinterfaceoftheEnglishsectorsconsideredthroughoutaperiodof   twentyyears(Lambert,2004).Theboundaryworkperformedattheinterfaceandthe   functionandroleofdifferentboundaryorganizationswhichmediateexchanges   throughouttheFE-HEinterfaceandiscontextualizedasapartofamuchwider   system.      ThisthesisalsoexplorestheeverchangingrolesandfunctionsinvolvedinFE-HE   educationtheoretically,chronologicallyandconceptually.Thistwodecadeperiodwas   onethatwitnessedrapidorganizationalandinstitutionalchange.Thepurposeofthe   thesisistoanalyzethesechangesandtransitionsasamainaspectinvolvedina   widerpoliticaleconomywhichsituatesFE-HEeducationinawideranalyticaland   conceptualframework.Thisframeworkwillthenbeusedindevelopingamodel,   contextualizingtheexchangeswhichhappensacrosstheinterface,aswellasthe   reproductionofsocial,economic,symbolicandculturalcapitalcrossingtheinterface   (Chen,2002).
ConceptualizingInterfaceBetweenFurther-HigherEducation               PHD              Thesis            Sample       ThestudyisonlylimitedtoFE-HEEnglisheducation.Itisalsoboundedbylocation,    timeandsector.Still,thisprovisionneedstobeproperlyunderstoodconsideringa    widermacroprocesswhichincludesthemassificationandmarketizationofHEwhich    acceleratedfrom themid-1980sandforward.Associatedwiththeseshiftswasan    emphasis regarding the introduction of private sector practices,competitive    mechanismsandmanagementtechniquesintothepublicsector.FE-HEeducation    wouldnotbeexpectedtobeimmunefrom thesetrends.    TheStructureoftheThesis       Thisthesisisstructuredintothreedifferentparts.Thefirstpartoffersthecontext    involvingtheunderstandingthedevelopmentsinFE-HEeducation,reviewingrelevant    literatureandofferingarationalefortheadoptedresearchapproach.Thesecondpart    developsananalyticalframeworkwhichisusedinconceptualizingFE-HEeducation,    constituting the primary research body.The last part looks into the policy    developmentsinvolved,andexaminestheimportanceoftheoryinillustratingpolicy    (Martinez,2010).
