Physical Activity Supports March 2020 Garden Group Project Open Activity Mondays 2-3.30pm 21 Carlibar Rd – community garden space Developing our community garden in this outdoor greenspace in the heart of Barrhead. The group meets weekly to participate in general garden upkeep and maintenance. This is a group led activity as the garden space continues to grow and thrive with members input. The benefits to those involved is low level physical activity in an outdoor setting, improving social connections and general wellbeing Supported Gym Sessions (1:1 support) Referral required Mondays 5-6.30pm Robertson Trust Sports Centre – Thornley Park Campus Thurs 10am- 12 An induction (with RAMH physical activity worker), a short health questionnaire, and you have access to this pay as you go facility. No contract, no direct debits, no pressure. 1:1 physical activity gym support, helping each individual to become more physically active. Improve health and wellbeing through increase in weekly exercise in a safe controlled environment Fit Blast (circuit class) Referral required Tuesdays 11am-12 Robertson Trust Sports Centre – Thornley Park Campus An 8 week fitness and exercise course. This will be an hour long group focusing on physical fitness, wellbeing, confidence, and social connectedness. This is open to all levels of fitness, and will consist of circuit based classes ranging from bodyweight exercise techniques to weight bearing exercise. It is hoped on completion of the course you will have an increased knowledge of physical exercise, and can gain access to simple fitness programmes which you can try out for yourself Barrhead Swimming Group Referral required Tuesday 4pm-5.30pm The Foundry - Barrhead Eastwood Swimming Group Referral required Weds 11am -12 Eastwood Park Leisure Centre, Eastwood Suitable for people who can swim and want to be more active. Group also enables social connectedness and self -management through providing routine, structure and positive activity
Wellbeing Group Open Activity Weds 10am-11am Eastwood Park Leisure Centre, Eastwood Meeting at the café space in Eastwood Park Leisure, the group has a quick ‘check in’ with members, then share and borrow positivity/affirmation cards, and finally participate in a short mindful walk within the grounds at Eastwood park. All looking to improve mental wellbeing through peer support and mild physical activity and mindfulness Greenspace Activity Group Open Activity Weds 1pm-3pm Rouken Glen Park – The Pavilion Greenspaces are outdoor natural places that can contribute to the improvement of an individual’s physical and mental health by providing suitable places for recreation. Data shows the strong importance that people place on accessible spaces for relaxation, exercise and socialising. The group at Rouken Glen wants to utilise this through mindfulness cycling walking jogging and being outside in nature. Walk and Talk Open Activity Fri 1.30 meet (walk between 2pm-3pm) Café on the Corner – Barrhead A group meeting in a supportive community venue which helps recovery through promoting the positive connection between physical activity and mental wellbeing. 30 minute check in within the café followed by a mild to moderate 30-45min in and around Barrhead RAMhs Football Group (6-a-side) Members and guests Saturday 10.30-11.30am Robertson Trust Sports Centre – Thornley Park Campus Open to RAMH members and invited guests .Promotes positive physical activity, coordination, teamwork and peer support. Race tor Recovery - Friday March 27th - RAMH want to celebrate the journey that everyone is on to improve and maintain good mental health. Some people have come a long way, others still may have a long road ahead. To mark this we are planning a fun run with a difference… you pick your distance! So whether you want to challenge yourself to a 10k or look just to be involved by walking 100m, we want you to show that you care about your own and everyone else’s journey. Branching Out – ‘Apr 20’ - Branching Out is an innovative development for adults who use mental health services in Scotland. The service consists of around three hours of activities per week in an outdoor setting, over 12 weeks. Activities are adapted to suit the client group, site and time of year. RAMH have again been invited by the Whitlee Windfarm countryside Rangers to provide a client group to participate in this programme starting in April On completion of the course there's an awards ceremony where clients receive certificates of completion, tool handling and achievement (e.g. The John Muir Award where applicable), and are signposted on to community-based leisure, volunteer and training opportunities. No Substitute for Life - ‘June/Sept 20’ This is a football event that is about so much more than football! Remembering those lost to suicide and in addition working with partners and groups attending who raise awareness around suicide prevention and mental health supports. This is a family friendly event, in a safe and supportive environment. That welcomes YOU to come along. On Going Physical Activity Supports Fit Stop Assessments 1:1/Group The Fit stop and supporting questionnaire is our initial point of contact and will look to contract people to become more physically active. This can either be with 1;1 sessions of activity or giving support and guidance into local groups and activities that will affect a positive change in their physical and mental health and wellbeing. Personal Training Programme West College Scotland The West College Scotland have again started working alongside RAMH participating with their 12 week Personal Training Programme. Clients work with their trainer on a weekly fitness session and discussion around diet and nutrition at Robertson Sports Centre in Renfrew. The increase in exercise and improvement in health and fitness is hoped to be beneficial for clients overall health and wellbeing
