Mr. Kishor Jadhav Ms. Snehal Jadhav We hope you all are doing good and keeping well!! It gives us System Admin Admin immense pleasure to share with you our 3rd edition of Symbi Mirror, the biannual magazine of Symbiosis Schools Central Directorate. Once again, we bring to you an amazing blend of Ms. Sapana Bhatkar Ms. Aditi Date various activities, workshops, programs and achievements of Coordinator Asst. Coordinator our staff and students in all the Symbiosis schools across Maharashtra. The 2022 will be remembered as yet another academic year after the pandemic which has not only made us Ms. Tanaya Gokhale stronger and a better human being but also empowered us to Asst .Coordinator - MrVikas Ambre understand our values and life skills too. The sudden shift from Campus Admin online learning to remote learning definitely spurred/propelled Academics new practices, leading teachers to discover new skills and strategies. But today, we can strongly say that it was the combined urge of students and teachers that made it possible to successfully pass that phase. School is like a second home for children. Right from pre-primary to secondary level children were overjoyed as they enjoyed their regular school routine. This year definitely holds more enthusiasm and zeal, as the students and teachers were seen actively participating in wonderful gatherings, competitions, activities, etc after a long gap of 2 years. It was such a heart-warming sight to see our students enjoying themselves on the beats of the songs, competing and achieving their goals in various competitions, and the simple joy of being back to school. We are also satisfied with the untiring efforts that teachers put in, for which they’ve got amazing results too. This year students have surely made us so proud by winning in a lot of competitions especially after a long gap. Symbiosis definitely gives students an excellent platform to showcase their talent, grasp new things, learn in a good atmosphere, etc. Focusing on the academics, it was definitely a challenging phase to bridge the learning gap. A lot of efforts have been put forth to identify and addressing the learning gaps, brainstorm over many educational concepts, set targets and achieve the best. Very soon we have the NEP (National Education Policy) 2020 coming up. The earlier 10+2 structure in school education will be now modified with a new pedagogical and curricular restructuring of 5+3+3+4 covering ages 3-18. This new wave of change is going to cater to the overall development of a child. There is a need for this change. A change to uphold the current needs of the students and to provide them a care free atmosphere where they can enjoy their educational journey. We at Symbiosis believe in putting in a lot of efforts to make learning a joyful experience in the best possible manner. Afterall, learning happens with a good blend of curricular and extra-curricular aspects. Together let us make this platform the best place for our children and help them achieve their dreams with the best potential. SSCD, December, 2022 |5

Day 2- Importance of Physical literacy. How about doing it with some Music? The day started really early by indulging teachers into some fun dance exercise and recreation. Post exercise, it was time to stretch some brain muscles. Teachers thoroughly enjoyed an amazing session on ‘Design thinking’ in school education which is the dire need in today' context. As NEP, 2020 talks about innovation and creation as it reflects on the importance of Project-based learning educational model. The session's objective was to teach our students and involving all our stakeholders to use a creative, systematic approach to teach problem solving. Post session teachers came up with some fantastic prototypes. Post-covid, bridging the learning gap is the most important aspect. Lesson Planning is essential for educators Lesson Planning is essential for educators. A teacher without a Lesson plan is like a boat without a rudder. In a classroom setting, failing to have a lesson plan in place minimizes the prospects of envisioning certain outcomes and fulfilling teacher's expectations. The lesson plan is all about the teacher's ability to synthesize the curriculum goals with pedagogy and knowledge of their specific teaching context. Although a well-designed lesson plan takes time and thought, it's an investment that can provide returns in many ways. In the same light, Dr. Karnica Vyas from Symbiosis Schools Central Directorate conducted a session on 'Lesson Planning' for the teachers of Symbi Stars. The deliberations were done with the teachers on the strategies of preparing lesson plans aligned with NEP principles. Also, the trajectory path was showcased reflecting how the lesson plans have evolved from the traditional to Experiential based learning lesson plans. As an outcome of the session, teachers were confident and determined to prepare the structured lesson plans including the innovative teaching methodologies and leading their learners from mere Knowledge to Creation DEC, 2022. It is important because it keeps them motivated and helps in fostering better relationships between teachers and schools and between teachers and students. IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research), The Gleam in the eyes of the children can be easily observed when science spills its beans of magic around them. The shine of the knowledge was easily observable in all of our children from Symbiosis School, Prabhat Road when they got the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in the magical learning experience at Smt. Indrani Balan Science Activity Centre, IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research), Pune. Students along with their teachers had thoroughly enjoyed this Science workshop by observing, engaging, and reflecting on various scientific concepts in an absolutely fun way. The beauty of teaching science with hands-on activities is that children themselves hypothesize and do their own research with trial and error and construct their own knowledge with the help of a facilitator. This 3 hour workshop ended up with a campus tour, where students got to know different aspects of IISER and how this institute focuses on basic life sciences and research and future possibilities. After School Activities Various research studies had already indicated that students who participate in extra-curricular activities get better in academics. This is because of the skills they learn from participating in different activities. Students learn to manage time, organizational skills, and improve self-confidence. At the same time through all sorts of activities, students also learn to express themselves in a better way. Keeping these important research-oriented results in mind, Symbiosis Schools Central Directorate has started with a variety of after- school activities which are carried out throughout the year. Keeping in mind the three major domains of human personality i.e. cognition, affective and motor development of children, SSCD started with Basketball, Volleyball, Art/painting, Dance, and Abacus. A total of 97 children have enthusiastically participated in all these activities. DEC, 2022. ISSUE-3. SSCD, December, 2022 |5

Books for a Cause How satisfying it is, when the whole day's work makes you tired, but at the same time you feel that you have achieved something or attempted to make a difference in someone's life. Like last year, Symbiosis Schools Central Directorate had organised a Book donation drive at Symbiosis School, Prabhat Road, on the occasion of our beloved founder president Dr. S.B. Mujumdar Sir's Birthday on 31st July,2022. With this donation drive, we collected 1130 books. This time we also extended this drive to our campuses at Nashik and Harali schools from where we collected approximately 1300 more books. 'Giving is not just about making a donation. The students prepared 600 newspaper bags, held a rally in the school vicinity and distributed paper bags to the vendors as well as the shopkeepers. ‘SAVE ENVIRONMENT’ and ‘NO PLASTIC BAGS’ were the Slogan for the day. Students created awareness about the need to protect our environment from piling layers of plastic as they do not decompose. They also explained to the shopkeepers and the vendors that if the innocent animals eat these plastic bags along with the thrown away food items, it sticks to their intestines and can be fatal, thus promoting eco friendly bags and contribute our bit in saving our environment. Students not only learnt about ‘SHRAMDAAN’ by making the paper bags, they also understood their responsibilities as Global Citizens. SSCD, December, 2022 |5

Creative minds of Symbi Who is the enemy? Daniyal Ansari from PYP, 4B Have you seen the trees lately? And see their perfect beauty? But, when I think about its protection, We have to protect, it's our only duty. But, then I remember the forest fire, It's the enemy I can't fight, I know I can't do much about it But I still think day and night There are a few ways, I can save the trees As I can't fight the fire, But I can grow them plenty, And let them grow, to my heart's desire. - Daksh Bhagtani
