Ms. Amruta Ruikar Head - International Admissions and International Promotions Executive - Symbiosis Schools Central Directorate (SSCD) At Symbiosis Schools we impart education that is aligned not only with technological advancements, but also our commitment to create global citizens which is in consonance with the vision of Dr. S.B. Mujumdar Sir. This vision heralded the winds of change in the Indian educational ecosystem more than 50 years ago. It is the school years that prepare our children to face the world and its unknown challenges. We, therefore, do our best to give our students opportunities that will prepare them for life beyond the safety of their homes and classrooms. It was Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar’s farsightedness that culminated in the inception of Symbiosis Schools Central Directorate (SSCD). It is very heartening to see that SSCD now has an outreach beyond its primary aim--to ensure equitable and quality practices at all Symbiosis schools. In a very short span of time it has made its presence felt in myriad aspects that are an integral part of Symbiosis Schools Campus life. We are pleased to present to our readers our valued publication ‘Symbi Mirror’ which provides an opportune vehicle for all of us to remain connected with our stakeholders. This magazine further showcases how SSCD has successfully bridged the gap between the Symbiosis International University (SIU) and the sister schools by using creative and ground breaking ways of tapping into the resources from different departments of SIU and making optimum use of the facilities available. As we turn the pages of the calendar, this magazine gives us a glimpse of the firm resolve that SSCD has been committed to ensuring that a grade pedagogy is imparted in all the Symbiosis schools. This is an admirable compilation of work done by SSCD and I extend my heartiest congratulations to Team SSCD for coming up with an oeuvre that succinctly documents the milestone events at SSCD. Elements of a Good Lesson Plan Lesson Planning is of utmost importance. A teacher without a lesson plan is like a boat without a rudder. In a classroom setting, failing to have a lesson plan in place minimizes the prospects of envisioning and fulfilling teacher's outcomes. A lesson plan is all about the teacher's ability to synthesize the curriculum goals with pedagogy and knowledge of the specific teaching context. Although a well-designed lesson plan takes time and thought, it's an investment that can provide returns in many ways. In the same light, Dr. Karnica Vyas from Symbiosis Schools Central Directorate conducted a session on 'Lesson Planning' for the teachers of Symbi Stars on 12th August 2022. The deliberations were done with the teachers on the strategies to prepare lesson plans aligned with NEP principles. Also, the trajectory of the path was showcased reflecting how the lesson plans have evolved from the traditional to Experiential learning based lesson plans. As an outcome of the session, teachers were confident and determined to prepare the structured lesson plans using the innovative teaching methodologies inspiring the learners to not merely acquire knowledge but to be creative too. The highlight of the program was when Prof. Lindsay Oades conducted a session on the importance of Self-determination Theory and life coaching for students. This technologically enabled career education program was beneficial to all the educators across the schools. With the growing need of employability, entrepreneurship and innovation the program equipped the teachers with the core transferable skills that students need to identify and enhance in order to meet their career goals. This will be an eight-month long collaboration for our teachers who shall go to their respective schools to train the students and prepare them for the future world of work. SSCD, January, 2023 | 27

Visit to IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research) The gleam in the eyes of the children can be easily observed when science spills its magic beans. The shine of the knowledge was easily observable in all of our children from Symbiosis School, Prabhat Road when they got the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in the magical learning experience at Smt. Indrani Balan Science Activity Centre, IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research), Pune. Students along with their teachers thoroughly enjoyed this Science workshop by observing, engaging, and reflecting on various scientific concepts in an absolutely fun way. The beauty of teaching science with hands-on activities is that children themselves hypothesize and do their own research with trial and error and construct their own knowledge with the help of a facilitator. This 3 hours workshop ended with a campus tour, where students got to know different aspects of IISER and how this institute focuses on basic life sciences and research and future possibilities. Team Symbiosis Schools Central Directorate wholeheartedly thanked the amazing IISER team for making this workshop possible for students. We look forward to many more such enriching experiences for our students and teachers. SSCD, January, 2023 | 31

After School Activities Volleyball & Basketball Various research studies has already Dance & Gymnastics indicated that students who participate in extra-curricular activities get better in academics. This is because of the skills they learn from participating in different activities. Students learn to manage time, organizational skills, and improve self-confidence. Keeping these important research-oriented results in mind, Symbiosis Schools Central Directorate has started with a variety of after-school activities which are carried out throughout the year. Books for a Cause How satisfying it is, when the whole day's work makes you tired, but at the same time you feel that you have achieved something or attempted to make a difference in someone's life. Like last year, this year too Symbiosis Schools Central Directorate organized a Book donation drive on the occasion of our beloved founder president Dr. S.B. Mujumdar Sir's Birthday on 31st July,2022. With this donation drive, we collected 1130 books in our Pune school.
