Learning & The Curriculum Our school provides a safe, caring, friendly and welcoming environment where every child matters and every child is unique. We value individuals. We make learning fun, encouraging originality through a broad and balanced, creative curriculum, which is accessible to all. Our inspiring topics are linked to the2 children’s interests, allowing them to explore, question and enjoy their learning. Our children are given the best opportunities to succeed in all they do and they have the confidence to relish a challenge.“We have happy and enthusiastic children, who enjoy learning”
Together with parents and the local community we take pride in our children’s positive attitudes towards 3their work and each other. Our vision is of a whole community working, learning and growing together. We promote respect and understanding for the faiths and beliefs of others in our community and withinthe wider world. We encourage our children to take responsibility and to be independent, developing life skills fit for the21st Century, enabling them to succeed now, and in the future. We have fair and simple school rules, whichunderpin our school ethos.“Learning today for tomorrow’s world”
Learning Outside Our school is set in the most magnificent grounds. Not only are we spoilt for space, but we also have our very own ‘woodland’ at the back of the school. A trained member of staff leads outside learning at least once every half-term for all the children. It is not unusual to find that our children have transformed into ‘Nature Detectives’ looking for signs of seasonal changes; or that they are on the trail of the ‘Gruffalo’ deep in the woods!4 “Happy children make successful learners”
Music & Performing Music is an important part of the curriculum and all of our children participate in weekly music lessons. We have visiting specialist music teachers who offer our children piano, guitar and violin lessons. All children have the opportunity to join the choir and our Year 4 children are taught to play African drums. Our Year 3 children have access to a singing coach, who delivers lessons on a weekly basis. 5“Every child is able to learn and flourish as an individual”
Technology Our children have access to the latest technology. Every class is equipped with a Clevertouch interactive screen and all children have access to laptops and iPads. All teachers are well trained in delivering engaging and exciting lessons using information technology. Our IT technician also supports children during their computer lessons and leads a range of extremely popular computer-based lunch-time clubs.6 “We have a dedicated, dynamic and hard working staff”
PE & Sport 7We believe that physical activity is vital for a healthyand active life. Our children all have two hours ofPhysical Education every week. They are taught by aspecialist Sports Coach. The children have access tomany extra-curricular clubs such as football, speedstacking, multi–skills, gym and rhythmic gymnastics.School teams represent Scott Lower in a wide range oflocal sports festivals including multi-skills, quickcricket, athletics and dance. These festivals provideour children with the opportunity to compete againstpupils from different schools. Through participatingin such festivals, our children develop important skillsand values such as team work, determination andperseverance.“Think like a champion”
Squirrels If we identify that your child would benefit from working in a small group, with an additional number of adults, we are able to offer a place in our Nurture Group, fondly known as ‘Squirrels’. During their time in Squirrels we are able to watch8 the children grow in confidence, particularly in relation to their social and emotional development.“Pupils enjoy coming to school and behave well in lessons and around the school. They feel safe and are proud of their school” - OFSTED 2013
