Learning & The Curriculum Our school provides a safe, caring, friendly and welcoming environment where every child matters and every child is unique. We value individuals. We make learning fun, encouraging originality through delivering a broad and balanced, creative curriculum, which is accessible to all. Our inspiring topics are2 linked to the children’s interests, allowing them to explore, question and enjoy their learning. Our children are given the best opportunities to succeed in all they do and they have the confidence to relish a challenge.“We have happy and enthusiastic children, who enjoy learning”

Together with our parents and the local community we take pride in our children’s positive attitudes 3towards their work and each other. Our vision is of a whole community working, learning and growingtogether. We promote respect and understanding for the faiths and beliefs of others in our community andwithin the wider world. We encourage our children to take responsibility and to be independent, developing life skills fit for the21st Century, enabling them to succeed now, and in the future. We have fair and simple school rules, whichunderpin our school ethos.“Learning today for tomorrow’s world”

Learning Outside Our school is set in the most magnificent grounds. Not only are we spoilt for space, but we also have our very own ‘woodland’ at the back of the school. A trained member of staff leads outside learning at least once every half-term for all the children. It is not unusual to find that our children have transformed into ‘Nature Detectives’ looking for signs of seasonal change or that they are on the trail of the ‘Gruffalo’ deep in the woods!4 “Happy children make successful learners”

Music & Performing Music is an important part of the curriculum and all of our children participate in weekly music lessons. We have visiting specialist music teachers who offer our children piano, guitar and violin lessons. All children have the opportunity to join the choir and we regularly have qualified musicians who provide enriching experiences for our children such as African drumming and street music. 5“Every child is able to learn and flourish as an individual”

IT and Technology All classrooms are equipped with an interactive white board and our children have access to PCs, laptops and i-Pads. We have a modern computer suite, where a whole class is able to develop their programming, coding, and computing skills. All children learn how to stay safe online and parents are encouraged to attend workshops to support their children with this. Teachers use technology as part of their everyday teaching which helps to prepare our children for the technology–rich world in which we live.6 “We have a dedicated, dynamic and hard working staff”

CookeryOur children have access to a specially designed 7Food Technology room which they love using. Thechildren are taught how to follow healthy recipesthat link with their Creative Curriculum topic. There is often a delicious smell wafting from theFood Technology room such as Enchiladas, FruitKebabs, Pitta Pizzas and Flapjacks. The childrenare taught how to safely prepare and clear awayafter themselves.Once a week there is a popular after-school cookeryclub which is on offer for children from years 3-6.The children make a range of recipes which followa seasonal theme.“A healthy outside starts from the inside”

PE and Sport Our school is a hive of activity with so many fantastic opportunities for our students. We believe that physical activity is vital for a healthy and active life and every student has at least two hours of physical education per week, along with a selection of clubs and keep fit activities in their classrooms. PE is a key part of the curriculum at Scott Primary and in order for students to gain a full experience at school we offer many extra curricular opportunities. We have a lot to offer at Scott Primary.8 Our values are focused on effort, behaviour, teamwork and attainment. “We never lose, we either win or learn”

Science Our children have access to two fully refurbished science laboratories, which they enjoy using. Most of our science work is practical and it sparks the children’s curiosity and develops their thinking skills.10 We work very closely with a specialist science Ambassador, who leads a weekly after- school science club. During these sessions, children are able to use scientific equip- ment such as Bunsen burners and microscopes. “Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known”

Library We are very fortunate to have a well-stocked Library filled with a range of exciting reads for the children. The library is looked after by our librarian and our children are welcome to go into the library during break-times and lunchtimes. The librarian offers a whole host of book-based activities for the children to participate in, including themed events around popular novels such as “Narnia” and “Harry Potter” and competitions such as designing book covers and becoming a student librarian for the day. Our older children are given responsibility for leading library activities. 11“The more that you read, the more things you will learn. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go”

Squirrels If we identify that your child would benefit from working in a small group, with an additional number of adults, we are able to offer a place in our Nurture Group, fondly known as ‘Squirrels’.12 During their time in Squirrels we are able to watch the children grow in confidence, particularly in relation to their social and emotional development.“Pupils enjoy coming to school and behave well in lessons and around the school. They feel safe and are proud of their school” - OFSTED
