Early Childhood Center WE HAVE A DREAM... During the month of January, our Ecc children explored towards our children and one another.  We intentionally the concepts of peace, justice, equality, bravery, and choose our words and actions very carefully and always loving kindness, as they reflected on the teachings of remember that the children are listening, observing, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We thought about our own learning all the time. We look forward to continuing to hopes and dreams and found inspiration from the share information about Bucket-Filling and character honesty and wisdom of our precious Ecc students.    Strengths, which we infuse into all aspects of our Ecc culture, our classrooms & through our Social Skills As we strive for excellence in all that we do, we are and Literacy curricula.  committed to making our Preschool and Kindergarten the very best it can be, both academically and in other tBJ is a very special place. Perhaps more than any other important ways that will promote vibrant, caring, school environment you will ever know, this is YOUr expressive, resilient, curious, thoughtful and joyful community. We have a dream to always make it a place children and families. We wish to continue building a rich with warmth, compassion, humanity, gratitude, community, in which all children and families know they inclusion, hope, and optimism. We feel grateful and are not alone, that the people around them care about blessed to be on this journey with you. them and care about what happens to them. It may sound cliché, but here at tBJ we have the opportunity Michele Feingold, Director, ECC to bring to life the expression “it takes a village,” by Andrea Kessler, Assistant Director, ECC being that village for one another, now more than ever. Debbie Evans, ECC Social Worker As we know, every child develops at their own pace. We believe that one of the most important areas of growth during these early years is character development and emotional intelligence. We model and teach our children what it means to have empathy, to count our blessings and share with others, and to be less judgmental and more forgiving.  We view every tBJ Early childhood classroom as a “Social Skills Laboratory’’ with valuable opportunities to focus on individual and collective character Strengths, while continually introducing, modeling, shaping, and reinforcing prosocial behaviors in an age appropriate and experiential way. Using a “Strengths Based Approach” involves seeing our children through a positive lens, enabling us to discover and truly embrace each child’s unique character strengths and celebrate our differences.  According to Lea Waters, PhD., this approach promotes resilience, optimism, hope and an enduring sense of achievement. the science behind this approach has been proven to give children the tools needed to deal with difficult emotions and challenging situations. Parents are the greatest role models and have the strongest influence on their children. We view our relationship with our parent community as a sacred partnership focusing on our collective goals to raise our children to be “mensches,” to make good choices, and to be kind. We teach this by doing it ourselves – by demonstrating acts of loving kindness 8 www.tbj.org/ecc

Women’s Association Our Women’s Association gathered this fall for Mah Jongg in Steiner hall and helped pack groceries for the Interfaith Food Pantry of the Oranges. Both events were successful and helped us connect, enjoy some socialization, and give back to our local community. We are welcoming 2022 with hope for a brighter year ahead. We know these last few weeks have been challenging, and as the current climate continues to improve, we are planning many more Women’s Association events. this includes our Philanthropy Event which will benefit the Period Project by helping to alleviate period poverty in Essex county. We are looking forward to bringing back our Book club over coffee and conversation about Where It All Lands with the author herself, Jennie Wexler, on thursday, March 10th at 9:30am. And we are already in planning mode for our Spring Luncheon on May 19th featuring guest speaker, Jill Kargman! Please save the date and keep an eye out for all the great WA events coming soon.
