Past Simple Tense We use Past Simple to talk about finished actions. @ I worked as a teacher in 2005. @ My friends went to Spain last summer. @ The dogs didn’t sleep last night. @ Did you wash the dishes last evening?

Positive sentence S + V.2+ Obj. Ex: You bought tickets for the concert.

Negative sentence S + didn’t + V.1 + Obj. Ex: You didn’t buy tickets for the concert.

Interrogative sentence Did +S+ V.1+Obj.? Ex: Did Jane buy a shirt for her dad? Yes, she did./ No, she didn’t.

USES…  Actions that started and finished in the past I didn't go to the beach last Sunday  Actions that happened one after the other in the past I went into the disco and I saw my favourite girl, then I asked her to dance.

Verb to Be  I was late ( am – was)  The books were sold at lower price ( are – were)  The cat was missing ( is – was) เตมิ +d/+ed/ied/consonant + ed  I stopped at a zebra crossing. (Stop + ped)  Shamira baked an apple pie. (bake + d)  We carried on with the test. (Carry – Y + ied)  We played tennis every day in August. (Play + ed)

Irregular Verb  I took a taxi to the airport. (take → took)  The birds flew in a flock. (fly → flew)  Tom gave me his last bar of chocolate. (give → gave) Some verbs never change their forms Brian cut the rope to release the deer. I put the cake into the oven. The truck hit the car from behind
