The persistent failure to meet a child's basic physical and/or psychological needs, likely to result in the serious impairment of the child's health or development. It may also include neglect of, or unresponsiveness to, a child's basic emotional needs.
Neglect can have a long lasting effect and consequences can stay with a person throughout their lives. Neglect will affect the way a child will develop and act as a young person, as an adult or as a parent.

Suspicions can arise through: Something you hear or are told Something you observe Your knowledge of the family Research of the family, i.e other colleagues’ files Gut feeling
Be Legible Be Permanent Monitor the child and his/her needs at any point in time Record the parents’ and carers’ level of fulfillment of those needs Make it very clear which statements are based on facts and which are based on speculation or opinion.
