SUNRISE ENGLISH PRIVATE SCHOOL, MUSAFFAH LIBRARY ACTIVITY REPORT OF GRADES 5-12 FOR THE YEAR 2022-2023 1

OUR LIBRARY The Library at the SUNRISE ENGLISH PRIVATE SCHOOL is named KNOWLEDGE CENTRE, offering the students access to an invaluable collection of books, videos, and CD\\DVD’s and is continuously furnished with new and relevant reference materials. The library which makes the accessibility to reading and knowledge easier. It functions throughout the year from 7a.m. to 2 p.m. on all days except Saturdays, Sundays and other holidays. The school library is equipped with over 5000 titles (fiction, globs, atlas, subject titles). The library is essential to facilitate student- centered learning and teaching processes. The library helps students understand their own culture and exposes them to other cultures, gives them the most recent information, and to fresh ideas, literature, making their awareness of the history and geography of the world. 2

The library aims to be a unique center for learning and creativity dedicated to the holistic development of the user community. Objectives To select, acquire and organize relevant and up-to-date information resources in all formats appropriate to the information needs of STUDENTS. To create and maintain quality information environment that supports learning and knowledge development at SEPS. Provide an inspiring, well-designed and conducive learning environment for the use of library resources. To support all educational and instructional programs of the SCHOOL To mould intelligent and enlightened students to play the role of a socially responsible citizen 3

THEME: READ AND GROW Reading with Fun Activities for SECONDARY STUDENTS for the Year 2022-2023 Helping in developing the raise for reading and acquiring knowledge among the students. This will become the precursor for various desirable habits like reading with concentration, punctuality, self-study, keeping silence at the place of study caring for the books etc. We want to see more children, with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them. ACTIVITIES AND OUTCOMES WORD PUZZLES Word puzzles are a great way to increase child’s exposure to old and new vocabulary, and to think about the different definitions of words. In relation to word searches it’s reviewing the word. Identify and understanding terms used – puzzles are great for all levels and can help build the pace from which you identify and understand key terms. Differentiations between similar words or phrases – Puzzles can really help with learning the differentiations between similar words. OUTCOME;  Supports language fluency  It can be used as a learning strategy  Improves spelling  It is a useful tool to learn languages  Helps to improve concentration  It teaches patience and persistence 5

 Keeps the brain active  It helps to develop problem- solving skill  It is therapeutic and relaxing  It is a great opportunity for kids and adults to bond 6

DETERMINE THE FICTION AND NON-FICTION TIILES FROM THE PROVIDED TITLES. Fiction is one that is based on imagination and fantasies. As against, Nonfiction implies the form of writing which talks about real events, people and facts. In short, we can say that fiction represents something which is not true and non- fiction represents actual facts. following: Fiction is a literature work which can be one of the following: Novel, Parable, Short Story Stage Plays &Poetry. Non-Fiction is strictly a piece of writing about informative and existed things. It mainly deals with the Biographies & Auto Biographies, Philosophy & Theory, Research & History, Suggestions, Analysis & Opinion. 8

A BLOOMING GOOD BOOK Summary writing is a great skill to have as a reader, writer, and movie-goer. It’s important to be able to write all kinds of summaries - some short, condensed, and simple; some elaborate, long, and extremely detailed. Writing summaries is an easy skill to learn and an even easier skill to practice. OUTCOME: Development of writing and analytical skills. Students are encouraged to read books that are already read by other students with a competitive spirit. 9

BIOGRAPHY POSTER REPORT Poster gives a visual appeal to its content. Creatively designed poster attract the reader. Students are given a chance to read the book before the competition. It will be so much fun to see what they create, all while seeing them discover many amazing reasons to read that they never expected! OUTCOME: The best advantage of poster making is that it facilitates team work and understanding along with facilitating creative thinking and extensive research and reading. It provides students with an opportunity to learn by doing, in turn strengthening the learning 11

BOOK REPORT A book report is an objective summary of the main ideas and arguments that the book's author has presented. The purpose of the report is to give enough information to help decide whether the book will be of use or interest to any potential readers. Students write book reports about the books they issued from the class library on their library activity sheets. It may contain the name of the author, title, publisher, and year of publication of the book, a short summary along with an appraisal containing original Ideas. OUTCOME Development of writing and analytical skills. Students are encouraged to read books that other students with a competitive spirit already read. 14

BOOK REVIEW Students write book reviews about the books they issued from the class library on their library notebooks. It may contain name of the author, title, publisher and year of publication of the book, a short summary along with an appraisal containing original ideas. NOTABLE WORKS STORY WRITING –STUDENTS WORK When one is creating a story, one must consider how it all comes out. This will not just be a description of the situation but also of what potentials remain and how they have changed over the course of the story. OUTCOME Outcomes - are specific, measurable statements that let you know when you have reached your goals. Outcome statements describe specific changes in your knowledge, attitudes, skills, and behaviors you expect to occur as a result of your actions. 32

Report on Book fair Date: 24 -10 -2022 to 27-10-2022 Organizer: DC BOOKS, Dubai Facilitator: Sunrise English Private School Venue: School Ground Objectives: To facilitate both teachers and students with valuable educational resources which includes Novels, textbooks, kids story books, poetry & Art/comics To familiarize parents with the new books/titles Report Books are uniquely portable magic. Book fair are appetizer for further reading. Book fairs play a huge role in encouraging reading habit among people of all age groups. SUNRISE ENGLISH PRIVATE SCHOOL in association with ‘DC BOOKS’ Dubai organized a book fair on 24TH October 2023. Wide range of books of all literary genres were displayed in the book fair. Children and the staff members enjoyed the fair and selected the books they wished to read. The opportunity to browse books of so many varieties and in a large number at a time was a wonderful experience for the children and parents who visited the fair. 38

CONCLUSION A child at his growing age needs books and libraries. It enriches his or her reading experiences and develops skills as independent learners. Age-specific strategies should be followed to introduce them to the information skills that should be practiced through their school career. A well planned class library program, functional class libraries, creatively designed and well executed library activities, and proper evaluation make students lifelong learners. 39
