General Information about Slate-The School, Ameerpet About US: Slate-The School, an institution par excellence established in the year 2001 has today grown to a strength of 15,000 students across our 7 campuses in the 2 Telugu states at Hyderabad (Abids, Ameerpet, Karmanghat, Himayathnagar, Bowrampet), Vijayawada and Tirupati. Slate - The School, Ameerpet, established in the year 2005 has grown in stature and size in the past 15 years .It has earned a name for its high academic excellence and discipline. Many of our students who have passed out of the school now bear testimony to the fact that they are what they are, not only because of the intellectual formation but mainly due to the moral values inculcated in them through special life skills education by their Alma Mater. Some of our students are now pursuing their studies at reputed institutions be it IIT, IIM, NALSAR etc. Vision and Mission: Slate-The School provides a pleasant and a stimulating environment to every child that walks in its gates. Providing Holistic education has been the bedrock of our philosophy. Slate-The School is against rote-learning. We encourage ‘learning by doing’, making schooling a happy experience for all children. Besides honing the basic skills like Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, we also instill Life Skills and Futuristic Skills among students. Curriculum: Slate- The School is recognized by the Government of Telangana. At the Pre-Primary(NUR,LKG&UKG) level we adopt Montessori and play-way methodology. However from clas I to Class-5 we follow a blend of CBSE/ICSE syllabus (not violating the regulations laid down by the Govt.). From Class-6 onwards; we have special sections called APPLE (Accelerated preparatory program for life skills enrichment) sections wherein we follow an integrated syllabus (CBSE, ICSE). Our APPLE stream lays equal importance on all subjects including languages through better reasoning, comprehension and critical thinking. Please note that our APPLE sections are not the same as IIT foundation courses elsewhere. This facility is extended only on parents’ request In a nut shell, though your child will be studying in a school recognized by the State Govt., he/she will be getting the best of CBSE/ICSE curriculum. Class Strength: We have an average class strength of 25 students per class in Pre-Primary and Primary and 30 for High School classes. The teacher-student ratio is 1:10. Academic Quality: In most schools, there is just one Principal and Vice Principal for the whole school. But to ensure academic quality, at Slate, we have one Principal per wing (Pre- Primary, Primary and High School) who is assisted by the Additional Principals and Vice 2

Principals. The Vice-Principals take up Communication Skills and Life Skills classes for children. These classes are designed in such a way that they improve children’s skills at Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing and also their overall personality. Reservations for the Economically Weaker Sections: We abide by the RTE; however, we need to receive the list of selected students from the authorities concerned in the Department of Education. So parents who are interested to avail this facility must contact the Govt. authorities by following the proper procedure. Transport Facility: The transport facility is extended on parents’ request. As far as possible, we try to pick and drop the child at the door step. However, if your residence is in a narrow lane where the vans cannot enter or take a U-turn, then the child has to be brought to the nearest convenient spot. If the child resides in an apartment, then the child has to be stationed at the main gate at the stipulated time. Please note that admission doesn’t automatically guarantee the transport facility, it is granted only on a limited basis. Parents are encouraged to arrange for own/personal transport as far as possible. Learning beyond Classrooms: At Slate, we strongly believe that learning is not confined to the classrooms alone. We believe that learning happens best when it is experiential. Regular field trips are organized so that children not only learn but also socially interact with peers and have their share of fun. Field trips are organised for all classes from Nursery to Class-10. Field Trips at Slate not only give children the needed break and fun, but also help them to imbibe various skills such as Observation, Critical Thinking, Social and Interpersonal Skills, etc. We call all our field trips as Life Skills trip and each trip is associated with picking up and honing one Life Skill. For example, children of High School have been taken to places like visiting the Tribal Hamlets of the Chenchu in the Nallamala Forests, to the fields in and around Chevella and Vikarabad where they got a chance to interact with the tribals and farmers. They got a chance to understand the socio-economic life of peasant and tribal societies. Children of Primary classes have been taken on visits to Orphanages and Old Age Homes. These trips are called the ‘Empathy Trips’. Children are also taken to different parks such as Indira Park, Bio Diversity Park, etc., where children not just enjoy in the lush green nature but also hone their skills at Observation. Children are also taken on exclusive Knowledge Trips to places like National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), Central Institute for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), Geological Survey of India (GSI) and also places of historical importance like the Golconda Fort, 3

Salarjung Museum, Tribal Museum, etc… With these trips children learn many new things which in turn improves their Listening, Comprehension, Analytical and Critical Thinking Skills. Once children are back to school from the trip, or on the following day, they are given worksheets which further reinforce the learning from the trips. Children are also encouraged to find out more about the place they visit and present a seminar (in High School) or perform a skit about the theme of the trip. Various activities like Elocution, Role Plays and such other activities are conducted on the day of the trip. Classroom activities related to the theme of the trip are also taken up both before and after the trip. Here is a list of a few places that we will be taking children during the next Academic Year (just to give you an insight): Pre-Primary- 1. Sanjeevaiah Park with the theme ‘Rainbow Day’ dealing with the various aspects of colours. 2. NTR Gardens with the theme ‘Health and Hygiene’ (activities related to orienting children towards better health and hygiene are conducted) 3. Zoo Park with the theme ‘Observation’ Primary- 1. Every day, children have one Co-Curricular Activity as a part of their regular timetable. Sports classes are conducted twice a week. These classes are not just any random activity classes. They are taken up on the basis of a scientifically designed syllabus that is closely monitored by the executives concerned. 4

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO??? How to get a seat at Slate? Please note that at Slate, we do not conduct any Admission Test. However, there will be an Assessment from UKG onwards. This Assessment is not the basis for admission. This is only to help us understand the basic skills of the child, like Listening Skills, Spoken Skills, Reading and Writing Skills. It will also enable us to understand where the child stands academically at the time of admission and accordingly help the child improve. WELCOME TO SLATE FAMILY It is an acknowledged fact that when it is the question of children’s education, parents and teachers are active partners. Together we can make a huge difference in preparing our children to be ‘future-ready’ and responsible citizens of the country. We firmly believe that every Slater is a future leader. Slater alumni are global citizens, doing exceedingly well in their chosen fields. They are well placed in leading national and international institutes like IIMs, IITs, NALSAR, NLU, just to name a few. Some of them have settled in countries like the USA and the UK. At Slate learning is a joy! it takes students to the zenith of learning, enabling them to strive and achieve. Make a wise decision today! After all, it is the future of your child!
