Founded in 2009 by the local entrepreneur Hans Strothoff, the school aims to bring out the best in all its students and to provide them with the social, emotional and academic skills needed to flourish in a rapidly changing world. Establishing and maintaining strong, caring, respectful and supportive personal relationships is key to the Strothoff International School ethos. Welcome | Willkommen 5 Willkommen bei der Strothoff International School Die im Jahre 2009 von dem Dreieicher Unternehmer Hans Strothoff gegründete Strothoff International School unterscheidet sich deutlich von den anderen internationalen Schulen im Raum Frankfurt. Die kleine, feine Schule hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, ihre Schüler mit sozialen, emotionalen und akademischen Fähigkeiten auszustatten, die sie für ihre Zukunft in einer sich immer schneller entwickelnden Welt bestens vorbereiten. 6 What makes us special I Was uns besonders macht Ladies and Gentelmen, Sehr geehrte Damen un Herren! While cultural and intercultural education is the foundation for human co-existence in today’s complex world, our school provides the prerequisites that students need to interact with foreign cultures and languages daily. Being tolerant and equipped with intercultural competence, capable of communicating in a global world, building bridges instead of destroying them – this is how I imagine our graduates of Strothoff International School when they set off to pursue their own endeavours. Our students are taking the role of indispensable networkers in the wider community, carrying the Rhein-Main region’s internationality within themselves and out into the world. Beside the cultural aspect, it is the holistic educational approach that distinguishes our school from others. During their school career, our students go through the continuum of a 100% IB programme from Early Years through to the Diploma Programme, and we are the only school in the region providing this educational approach! Our students are learning to learn, and they learn what it means to research, to create and find solutions as part of a team. Our teachers have the role of a mentor for all the meaningful things that can’t be found on Google. This fosters a culture of teaching and learning that encourages innovative thinking. We see ourselves as a learning organisation: we continuously work on further developing our concepts, and especially the topic of multilingualism (because language is a prerequisite to understanding culture). In 2020 we will open a new kindergarten group where three-year-olds will be taught in English and German in a tandem approach. Intercultural competency and creativity are the key to our future! Welcome to Strothoff International School! Kulturelle bzw. interkulturelle Bildung schafft das Fundament für das Zusammenleben in einer komplexen Welt. Unsere Schule bietet hierfür die Voraussetzungen, so dass unsere Schülerinnen und Schüler täglich den Umgang mit anderen Kulturen und Sprachen praktizieren und lernen. Tolerant und interkulturell kompetent, befähigt, in einer globalen Welt so zu kommunizieren, dass Brücken gebaut statt zerstört werden, so stelle ich mir die Weltbürger vor, die aus der Strothoff International School als Absolventen hervorgehen. Unsere Absolventen werden dabei zu unverzichtbaren Persönlichkeiten in einem Netzwerk, das die Internationalität der Rhein-Main-Region in sich und in die Welt hinaus trägt. Neben dem kulturellen Aspekt ist es der ganzheitliche Bildungsansatz, der unsere Schule auszeichnet. Unsere Schüler durchlaufen ein komplettes IB- Programm vom Kindergarten bis zum Diplom. Die Strothoff International School ist die einzige Schule in der Region, die dieses pädagogische Angebot bereitstellt! Unsere Schüler lernen zu lernen, und sie lernen was es heißt, im Team zu forschen und zu gestalten. Die Rolle unserer Lehrerinnen und Lehrer ist die des Lernbegleiters für alles, was man nicht auf Google findet! Daraus erwächst eine Lehr- und Lernkultur, die innovatives Denken fördert. Wir verstehen uns als eine Lernende Organisation: Als solche arbeiten wir permanent an der Weiterentwicklung unserer Konzepte, insbesondere auch im Rahmen unserer multilingualen Ausrichtung (denn Sprache ist eine Voraussetzung, eine Kultur zu verstehen!). Im Verlauf des Jahres 2020 werden wir eine Kindergartengruppe neu eröffnen, in der die Dreijährigen Deutsch und Englisch - bilingual - nach der Tandemmethode erlernen. From the Early Years to the Diploma programme, we are focused on developing independent learners who are curious about the world around them and have a desire to explore and inquire. They use progressive teaching practices and new technologies in an environment where students’ individual needs are met. 12 IB makes the difference | IB macht den Unterschied IB makes the difference Education is not simply the process of finding correct answers to predictable questions. At its heart, it is an ongoing process of inquiry and discovery. Therefore, Strothoff International School offers the International Baccalaureate Programme, which aims to do more than other curricula by developing inquiring, know- ledgeable and caring young people who are motivated to succeed. Strothoff International School has been authorised as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since March 2011. The IB offers three continuous educational programmes based on students’ ages: the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students aged 3-11, including the Early Years Programme for children ages 3-5 years, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for 12-15 year olds and the flagship IB Diploma Programme (DP) for the final two years of secondary school. The common link between these programmes is the commitment to the highest quality international education, whilst learning to be a productive and responsible member of the global community. The IB Diploma is recognised by leading colleges and universities as outstanding preparation for tertiary education, and has grown to become one of the most widely accepted entrance qualifications for academic institutions worldwide. IB macht den Unterschied Beim Lernen geht es nicht nur darum, richtige Antworten auf vorhersehbare Fragen zu finden, es ist vielmehr ein ständiger Prozess des Fragens und Erforschens. Deswegen bietet die Strothoff International School das International Baccalaureate an, welches mehr als andere Lehrpläne zum Ziel hat, die Entwicklung der Kinder zu nachfragenden, selbständigen, sozial engagierten und hochmotivierten jungen Menschen aktiv zu fördern. Die Strothoff International School wurde im März 2011 als International Baccalaureate (IB) World School anerkannt. Wir sind eine der wenigen Schulen im Rhein-Main-Gebiet, die – basierend auf dem Alter der Schüler – alle drei aufeinander aufbauende Lehrprogramme anbietet. Das Primary Years Programme (PYP) für Schüler von 3-11 Jahren, welches das Early Years Programme für Kinder von 3-5 Jahren beinhaltet, das Middle Years Programme (MYP) für die 12- bis 15jährigen und das IB Diploma Programme (DP) für die letzten beiden Schuljahre. Allen drei Programmen gemeinsam ist eine internationale Bildung auf höchstem Niveau. Das IB Diplom ist bei führenden Universitäten und Fachhochschulen in der gesamten Welt als Eintrittsqualifikation anerkannt.

PYP-Early Years Programme | PYP-Early Years Programme 17 PYP-Early Years Programme (EY) KG 1 - Pre-Primary ~ 3 - 5 Years The PYP-Early Years Programme (EY) aims to nurture every child’s curiosity, creativity, confidence and independence, in order to nurture a love of learning at school, at home and throughout their lives. Young children are natural inquirers; they ask questions, explore, gather information, make predictions and come to conclusions in their play and social interactions all day long. It is the natural process of development and finding out about the world around them. In the PYP-Early Years Programme (EY), learning activities and play experiences are structured to ensure inquiry and learning can take place. Teachers pose questions and problems and arrange learning experiences to challenge the children in their thinking, theorising and decision-making. PYP - Early Years Programme (EY) KG 1 - Pre-Primary ~ 3 - 5 Jahre Das PYP-Early Years Programme (EY) zielt auf die Förderung von Neugier, Kreativität, Selbstvertrauen und Unabhängigkeit sowie auf die Förderung der Leidenschaft zum Lernen in der Schule, zu Hause und das ganze Leben lang. Kleine Kinder sind von Natur aus Forscher: Sie stellen Fragen, erkunden, sammeln Informationen, treffen Vorhersagen und ziehen Schlüsse – in ihrem Spiel ebenso wie durch ihr soziales Verhalten. Es ist der natürliche Entwicklungsprozess, wie sie die Welt um sich herum kennenlernen. Im PYP-Early Years Programme (EY), sind Lernaktivitäten und Spielerfahrungen so strukturiert, dass Nachfragen und Lernen stattfinden kann. Primary Years Programme | Primary Years Programme 21 Primary Years Programme (PYP) PYP 1 - PYP 5 ~ 6 - 11 Years The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) at Strothoff International School is designed for students between the ages of 6-11 years. It encompasses learning not just in the classroom, but also rich experiences in the whole community. The PYP is an international, transdisciplinary programme designed to foster the development of the whole child by addressing students’ social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to their academic welfare. Students develop an understanding of important concepts, acquire essential skills and knowledge, develop caring attitudes and learn to take responsible action in their communities. The PYP combines the best research and practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant, challenging and engaging educational framework for all children. It provides a conceptual framework of learning that encourages creativity, critical and reflective thinking. The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement – essential qualities for young people who are becoming global leaders. It builds upon the knowledge, skills and attitudes developed in the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and prepares students to meet the academic challenges of the IB Diploma Programme (DP). Middle Years Programme (MYP) MYP 1 - MYP 5 ~ 12 - 15 Jahre Das IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) richtet sich an die 12- bis 15jährigen Schüler. Der Lehrrahmen ermuntert unsere Schüler dazu, sich zu kreativen, kritischen und reflektierenden Denkern weiterzuent- wickeln. Das MYP ist eine intellektuelle Herausforderung, das unseren Schülern die Fähigkeit vermittelt, Gelerntes mit der wirklichen Welt zu verknüpfen. Diploma Programme | Diploma Programme 29 Diploma Programme (DP) DP 1 - DP 2 ~ 16 - 19 Years The IB Diploma Programme (DP) at Strothoff International School is an academically rigorous programme in the final two years of secondary school, and ending in external, global examinations. The IBDP encourages students to ask challenging questions, learn how to learn, develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture, and develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures. It prepares students for the next stage in their education and the qualification is by the world’s leading universities. The curriculum is a rigorous and balanced programme that comprises six subjects of which are three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service activities), a critical thinking course entitled Theory of Knowledge (ToK) and an Extended Essay of about 4000 words. Diploma Programme (DP) DP 1 - DP 2 ~ 16 - 19 Jahre Der letzte Abschnitt an der Strothoff International School ist das IB Diploma Programme (DP). Das anspruchsvolle Programm erstreckt sich über zwei Jahre und fordert die Jugendlichen im Alter zwischen 16 und 19 Jahren dazu heraus, ihr höchstmögliches akademisches Ziel zu erreichen. In den Stufen DP 1 und DP 2 lernen die Schüler in kleinen Klassen bis max. 16 Personen Fragen zu stellen, das Lernen zu lernen und ein Gefühl für die eigene Persönlichkeit und Kultur zu entwickeln. Darüber hinaus werden ihnen Strategien und Möglichkeiten zur Kommunikation mit ihren Mitmenschen sowie das Verständnis für fremde Kulturen vermittelt. Mit diesem von Universitäten auf der ganzen Welt anerkannten Programm sind unsere Schüler bestens und umfassend auf die nächste Stufe ihrer Ausbildung vorbereitet. Das IB Diploma ist ein anspruchsvolles und ausgewogenes Programm. Es besteht aus sechs Fächern, von denen drei Leistungskurse und drei Grundkurse sind. Class teachers and our learning support team along with the pastoral care system, play a crucial role in dealing with any issues of concern. Life doesn’t always follow a straight road and children face difficulties in their personal life from time to time. With our pastoral care we do everything to support the students in their social and emotional well-being. The school encourages a strong partnership with parents. We value open and ongoing communication between school and home and welcome parents contacting the school at any time to speak to teachers, because students achieve when teachers and parents work in unison. The school is also very aware that some students may require extra academic support. The school’s learning support department provides a range of support structures and programmes for a variety of different learners. Primarily these include: Targeted support for students who need extra help. Our learning support team collaborates closely with teachers in order to support students through differentiated strategies. An intensive English as an additional language programme designed to develop and consolidate the language proficiency of some students. 38 After School Activities | Außerschulische Aktivitäten After School Activities Students are encouraged to take part in the wider life of the school through participation in an extensive extra curricular activities programme. We offer about 60 different activities throughout the academic year. Students have the ability to pursue their individual passions and interests or challenge themselves with something new. Our After School Activities Programme (ASA) include academic and creative topics, sports, and science and technology activities. Athletics and Music are strong features of the ASA Programme sport events. Students have the opportunity to represent the school in competitive sport, join an orchestra, choir or band, or participate in a drama production. The sports programme works with local sport clubs and offers a number of opportunities. Our athletic director can help students determine the best course, whether a student is just starting out or is already a competent athlete. Students can also develop their leadership skills and interpersonal skills by taking part in one of the school’s service or charity projects, including Student Council, Model United Nations, the Duke of Edinburgh`s Award or other service projects, like reading buddies. Field trips are a regular part of the curriculum, and in the secondary school students attend a week-long trip related to the curriculum. The school also offers a ski trip during the February holidays. Das umfangreiche Sportprogramm unserer Schule basiert auf der Zusammenarbeit mit örtlichen Sportvereinen und bietet den Mädchen und Jungen viele Möglichkeiten – vom Breitensport bis zum Leistungssport. Bei außergewöhnlicher sportlicher Begabung unterstützt unser Sportdirektor die Schüler bei der Suche geeigneter Fördermöglichkeiten. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt der Strothoff International School sind soziale Projekte. Auf diese Weise fördern wir einerseits den zwischenmenschlichen Umgang unserer Schüler, andererseits werden ihre Führungs- qualitäten ausgebildet. Our school has been very enthusiastic and succesful in building an challenging athletic programme, including soccer, volleyball, basketball amongst others. We recognise the values students gain from participation in a well-organised, high quality athletic programme not only physically, but also mentally. Sport Unser Ziel ist es, so vielen Schülern wie möglich sportliche Wettkampfmöglichkeiten anzubieten. Thriving string orchestra, choir and band programmes are at the center of the school’s musical life, and various levels in each programmes ensure that students are able to learn at a level appropriate for their development. Drama and dance productions are part of our performance art programmes as well and our community, who come along and support our student's incredible performances.
