US LIFE SAVING STATION #30 US Life Saving Station #30 is located in Ocean City, NJ on the corner of Fourth Street and Atlantic Avenue. Also known as the U.S. Coast Guard Station No. 126, this is the only life- saving station (now museum) of its design in NJ (1 of 6 in the country) still in existence. The building was designed by architect James Lake Parkinson in a Carpenter Gothic style. This building is one of 42 stations built in New Jersey. It was also the workplace of the brave surfmen who were the beachfront First Responders of the day. Over the past ten years the station has gone through a total historic restoration. In that time the non-profit has secured the artifacts and has completed comprehensive research on the station and the 62 men who worked there. The station is a representation of living history from 1850 to 1915, telling the story of the US Life Saving Service along with the brave men who served. Learn more at uslifesavingstation30.com. Visit the museum where for a moment in time you can experience the history and lives of the brave surfmen who responded to the shipwrecks and people in need along the Jersey shore. “They had to go out but did not have to come back so others might live.” 55 COASTGUARDCOMMUNITY.ORG

NAVAL AIR STATION WILDWOOD AVIATION MUSEUM Naval Air Station Wildwood (NASW) Aviation Museum is a non- profit museum located at the Cape May Airport inside historic Hangar #1. Commissioned in April 1943, NASW served as an active dive-bomber squadron training facility during World War II. Forty-Two aviators perished at the site during training from 1943-1945. Today, Hangar #1 has been restored and transformed into an Aviation Museum that houses 27 aircraft, engines, an expansive United States Coast Guard exhibit area and educational, interactive displays. Hangar #1, as well as the museum’s centerpiece (a TBM Avenger aircraft), are both listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places at a level of National Significance. NASW has a unique relationship with Training Center Cape May. During WWII, the Coast Guard Base in Cape May transitioned to a naval base, housed dirigibles, and helped guard the coast from German U-Boats. Working in coordination with NAS Wildwood, the two bases were a vital part of the build-up and training for the war in the Pacific Theatre. The museum details the story of both bases thorough interactive displays, photos, newspapers aircraft, boats and vehicles. The Coast Guard Exhibit area is approximately 4,000 sq. ft. and home to a 10’ high mural depicting the history of Training Center Cape May, formerly Sewell’s Point. Also on display is a U.S. Coast Guard Humvee vehicle (Eleanor II) used in Afghanistan, a 41’ patrol boat, an HH-52 helicopter and “All Available Boats” exhibit that details the water evacuation of Manhattan during the 9/11/01 attacks. The museum is about a 15 minute drive from Training Center Cape May. The mission of NASW is to memorialize the 42 aviators who perished at the site, educate the public, and restoration of Hangar #1.
