VETERAN’S MEMORIAL PARK RIDE

Security measures and the Fort Worth HOG website by “Hacker” The #1 thing Road Captains strive for in all our events and rides is the safety of our Members and their guests. As the webmaster, I also work to ensure your safety while using our website. With all the scammers and professional hackers out there, including that darn prince in Nigeria who is still trying to give away a few million dollars for the small cost of your personal information, I wanted to share with you some safety tips while surfing the interwebs and using your electronic devices (while in an upright position). ● NEVER – EVER – open an email from someone you don’t know or whose email address doesn’t match the sender’s information. Look at the email header and you should see the actual email address. If you don’t recognize it, don’t open it or click on any links or files attached. ● SITE SECURITY is a must, and if you notice on our website’s URL header, there’s a small “lock” to the left of the site’s address. Any site that you visit that has that icon is a “secured” site meaning that there is some sort of protection and encryption going on in the background to protect your information. ● If you get a phone call and you don’t know the number, don’t pick up. Apparently, some geniuses out there – again, overseas – have the knack for calling you, hanging up, and then hoping you call the number back. That’s when the trouble starts as they can rack up long distance charges on your phone number.

Security measures and the Fort Worth HOG website Now, about the website. We try our best to maintain and update information regularly on our website to keep it fresh and current. ● This includes updating the Photos Page regularly with links to the Facebook Page (thanks Tiffany for those photos!), ● Updating the Safety Page with safety tips supplied by Carlos as well as information concerning group riding, hand signals, and lane positioning (videos and animated examples coming soon) ● The LOH Page contains information about Ladies of Harley and will be updated to include the LOH Workshops like the Lifting Your Bike Workshop (videos) ● The Member’s Only Page, which is updated with Member information, spotlights, and now, Activities Points information. ■This Page also contains downloadable forms and documents to assist you, including a Membership Renewal Form and the Ride 365 Mileage Form so that you can fill them out at your convenience and then bring into the dealership or any Road Captain for verification. ■Remember, the only way you can get access to the Member’s Only Page is by sending me an email with your name (so I can verify your Membership) and the email you want the password-creation link sent to. And, as always, we’re open to suggestions and comments. Have a great ride you’d like to share with the group? Let us know and we’ll include it in the Newsletter and website. Have a favorite place you like to ride to and eat? Give us a review and let your HOG family know! Always feel free to reach out to me at my email address ([email protected]) and there’s even a convenient link on the website itself for all the Officers if you have a specific question for one of them. Until next time, keep the rubber side down and the wind in your hair…unless you’re bald like me. Then, just enjoy the ride! James
