Whenspeakingofairconditioners,everyoneisfamiliarwiththem.Especiallyinthehotsummer,we wouldnotknowhowtolivewithoutit.Butwhenitcomestor efrigerationcompressors,many consumersarenotparticularlyclear.Infact,therefrigerationcompressorisanimportantpartofair conditionersandrefrigerators,anditsperformanceandqualitydirectlydeterminethecoolingeffect ofthem.Thefollowingisanintroductiontothetypesofrefrigerationcompressors. 1.TwoMainTypesofRefrigeration Compressors Therefrigerationcompressoristhecoreandheartoftherefrigerationsystem.Thecapacityand characteristicsofthecompressordeterminesthecapacityandcharacteristicsoftherefrigeration
system.Inasense,thedesignandmatchingoftherefrigerationsystemreflectsthecapabilitiesof thecompressor. Therefore,therefrigerationindustryofallcountriesintheworldhasinvestedalotofenergyinthe researchofrefrigerationcompressors,andnewresearchdirectionsandresearchresultscontinueto appear.Thetechnologyandperformancelevelofcompressorsischangingwitheachpassingday. Piston-typerefrigerationcompressorsuseacrankandconnectingrodmechanismtoconvertthe rotarymotionoftheprimemoverintoreciprocatingmotion,therebydrivingthepistontoreciprocate inthecylinder.Inthisprocess,thevolumeformedbythepistonandthecylinderisconstantly changing,andgasiscompressed. Rotaryrefrigerationcompressorsusetherotationoftherotortocompressgas.Accordingtotheir differentformsandstructuresofrotation,theycanbedividedintoscrewcompressors(singlescrew compressorsandtwinscrewcompressors),scrollcompressors,vanecompressors,etc. 1.2SpeedType/DynamicCompressor Inthistypeofcompressor,theincreaseingaspressureisconvertedfromthespeedofthegas.In otherwords,makingtheinhalingairflowobtainacertainhighspeed,andthenslowingitdown,then itsmomentumisconvertedintothehighpressuregas,whichdischarges.Itcanbeseenthatthe compressionprocessinthespeedcompressorcanbeperformedcontinuously,andtheprocessis stable. Thereasonwhythecompressordoesnotstartismostlythefailureofthemotorandtheelectrical control.Duringmaintenance,itisnecessarytocheckvariouselectricalcontrolcomponents,power supplyandconnectionlines. 2.1PowerLineFailure Faultanalysisofpowerlinefailure:Whenthecompressordoesnotstart,generallycheckthepower linefirsttoseeifthepowerfuseisblown,thewiringisloose,thedisconnectioncausesaphaseloss, orthepowersupplyvoltageistoolow. Remedy:Whenthepowersupplylacksphase,themotoremitsa\"buzzing\"humanddoesnotstart. Afterawhile,thethermalrelaywillactandthecontactswillopen.Atthistime,youcanusea
multimetertocheckwhetherthefuseisblownormeasurethevoltage.Ifthefuseisblown,replaceit withanappropriateone. 2.2TemperatureControllerFailure Figure4:Batterytemperaturecontroller. Faultanalysisoftemperaturecontroller:Therefrigerantinthethermalbulbofthetemperature controllerleaksorthetemperaturecontrollerfails,whichwillcausethecontacttobenormallyopen. Peopleoftenask:wouldlowrefrigerantcausecompressornottostart?Insufficientrefrigerantwill causethecompressortonotwork. Remedy:Turnthethermostatknobtoseeifitcanstartthecompressoratthelowesttemperature gear(thelargestnumberorthestrongcoldcontinuousoperationgear).Ifitcannotstart,further observewhethertherefrigerantinthethermalbulbleaks,orthecontactactionfails,etc.Minor damagescanberepaired,butseriousonesshouldbereplacedwithanewthermostatofthesame modelandspecification. 2.3MotorBurntOutorShortCircuitFaultbetweenTurns Faultanalysisofmotorburntoutorturn-to-turnshortcircuit:Whenthemotorwindingisburntoutor turn-to-turnshortcircuithappens,thefusewilloftenblowrepeatedly,especiallywhentheknife
switchispushedon.Foropencompressors,atthistimeyoucansmelltheburntenameledwirefrom themotor. Remedy:Pleaseuseamultimetertocheckwhetherthemotorterminalandtheshellare short-circuited,andmeasuretheresistanceofeachphase.Ifitisashortcircuitoraphase resistanceissmall,itmeansthatthewindingturn-to-turnshortcircuithappensandtheinsulationis burned. Duringinspection,theinsulationresistancecanalsobemeasuredwithaninsulationresistance meter.Iftheresistanceisclosetozero,theinsulationlayerhasbeenbrokendown.Ifthemotor burnsout,youshouldreplaceit. 2.4ACContactororIntermediateRelayFailure ThefailureofanACc ontactororintermediaterelayisgenerallypronetocontactoverheating, burning,abrasion,etc.,whichcausepoorcontact. Remedy:Pleaseremove,repairorreplacethem. 2.5PressureControllerFailure Figure5:Aircompressorwithpressuregauge.
Failureanalysisofthepressurecontroller:Whenthepressurevalueofthepressurecontrolleris improperlyadjustedorthespringandothercomponentsinthepressurecontrollerfail,thepressure controllerwillactwithinthenormalpressurerange.Sothenormallyclosedcontactwillbe disconnected,andthecompressorisunabletostart. Remedy:Pleaseopentheboxcovertoseeifthecontactscanbeconnected,oruseamultimeterto testwhetheritisconnected.Aftermanualreset,ifthecompressorstillcannotstart,pleasecheck whetherthepressureofthesystemistoohighortoolow.Ifthepressureisnormalandthepressure controllertrips,readjustthehighandlowpressurecontrolrangeofthepressurecontrollerorchange thepressurecontroller. 2.6ThermalRelayFailure Faultanalysisofthermalrelay:Thecontactofthermalrelaytripsortheheatingresistancewireis burnt. Remedy:Whenthethermalrelaycontacttrips,firstcheckwhetherthesettingcurrentisappropriate, andpressthemanualresetbutton.Ifthecompressordoesnottripafterstartingthecompressor,the causeoftheovercurrentshouldbefoundout.Afterthisproblemissolved,presstheresetbutton. Whentheheatingresistancewireisbroken,thethermalrelayshouldbereplaced. 3.RefrigeratorCompressorNottoStart

Whydoesmyrefrigeratorcompressornotstart?Haveyoueverencounteredsuchaproblem?The refrigeratorcompressordoesnotstartwhichmayberesolvedaccordingtothefollowingmethods: First,youneedtocheckwhetherthepowersupplyoftherefrigeratorispluggedinorwhetherthe powersupplyoftherefrigeratorisloose.Therefrigeratoriseasytoloosenafterbeingusedfora longtime. Themotorunitoftherefrigeratorcompressorwasburned.Ifthishappens,thefuseofthe compressorwillblow.Thisisacommonproblemthatthecompressordoesnotstart,anditneedsto bereplacedwithanewfuseintimetorepairit. Thecontrolcircuitoftherefrigeratorismalfunctioning.Theoverheating,burning,andabrasionofthe contactswillcausetherefrigerator'scontrolcircuitboardtoshort-circuitandotherfailures,andeven leadtopoorcontactoftherefrigeratorcompressorcontacts.Inthiscase,thecircuitboardneedsto bereplaced,andforsafety,theelectricalplugcanalsobereplaced.
Checkwhetherthecircuitvoltageoftherefrigeratorisnormal.Ifthecircuitvoltageoftherefrigerator islowerthanthesetratedvalue,themotoroftherefrigeratorcannotstartandwillmakea \"humming\"sound. Refrigeratorcompressorholdingshaftproblemsaregenerallycausedbylubricatingoil.The lubricatingoilcircuitisblocked,theoilsupplyisinterrupted,orthedirtinthelubricatingoilincreases theoil’sviscosity.Compressorjammingisduetothesmallfitclearancebetweenthepistonandthe cylinderorduetothermalexpansion.Thissituationcanusuallybesolvedbydrippinglubricatingoil. 4.Summary Figure7:Refrigeratorcompressor.
