In addition, the teams work endlessly to ensure that all park visitors enjoy a memorable and fun trip to their favorite park! All of our seasonal programs and events are free and open to the public, so all can enjoy and partake in these exciting activities! Allegheny Commons PROGRAMS Plant Walk with Community Herbalist, Annie Fox Thursday, September 8 > 6:00pm > Meet at the Patricia Rooney Fountain On this #NaturePact 90-minute walk, we will learn how to identify local edible and medicinal plants, review safe and ethical foraging practices, and connect with the plant life of our region. Participants may want to bring a notebook and water bottle (both optional). Frick Environmental Center PROGRAMS Baby & Me Nature Walk Friday, September 2 > 10:00 a.m. Join us in partnership with UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Family Care Connection for a guided nature walk with activities designed for children ages 0-18 months and their adults! Full Moon Hike Friday, September 9 > 8:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Enjoy a free moonlit stroll through Frick Park led by Naturalist Educator Stephen Bucklin. This relaxing 90-minute hike is designed to connect participants to the cycles in nature and the seasonal phenomena each month brings. This hike is geared towards teens and adults. Dogs are not permitted to join this hike. Nature Play Date Sunday, September 11 > 1:00 p.m. Families are invited to the nature play space to participate in fun outdoor activities! Kids can climb, build, and investigate space. Come prepared to get dirty — the mud kitchen will be open! Forest Bathing with 10.27 Healing Partnership Thursdays, September 15, 22, 29 & October 6 > 9:00 a.m. We will take 90-minute gentle walks throughout Frick Park while nurturing our connection to the natural world through meditative practices. 6
Wild Edibles: Walk, Foraging, and Feasting Workshop Sunday, September 18th > 9:30 a.m. Join Melissa Sokulski on a walk around the Frick Environmental Center, identifying wild edible plants and mushrooms. You’ll gather edible plants, then return to the Center to prepare a delicious lunch using what was foraged. Azure Forest Therapy Walk & Sound Bath Sundays — September 18 and October 9 > 2:00 p.m. Join us for a sensory nature walk where you can create music inspired by nature and relax in a beautiful sound bath. These walks are free, sensory-friendly, and all behaviors welcome. Register through azurepittsburgh.org/events. Western PA Mushroom Club (WPMC) Monthly Meeting Tuesdays — September 20, October 20, and November 15 > 7:00 p.m. The Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club meets the third Tuesday of each month (March through November) at the Frick Environmental Center. Each meeting features updates on club activities, a speaker/presentation, a mushroom identification table, and mushroom-related merchandise for sale. Meetings are open to the public and free to attend. Fluorescent Forest Walk Thursday, October 13 > Stay tuned for more 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Forest Bathing events Join Naturalist Educator to become available Stephen Bucklin on a walk throughout the fall season! through the forest at night to search for fluorescent organisms. Bump in the Night Fridays, October 21 & 28 > 6:30 p.m. Saturdays, October 22 & 29 > 6:30 p.m. At Bump in the Night, children ages three to nine and their adults are welcome to join us in Frick Park for an evening of fall adventures. Advanced registration required for this ticketed event. Owl Prowl with the National Aviary Friday, November 11 > 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12 > 7:00pm Join the National Aviary in Frick Park to look for owls in the evening sky! Story Hike: Ruby’s Birds Sunday, November 13 > 10:00 a.m. Join a naturalist educator for a read aloud of Ruby’s Birds by Mya Thomson. Then make your own pair of binoculars and head out on the trail to look for the birds in Frick Park! The Lending Library The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy has a collection of exploration tools that visitors can borrow to enhance their park visit. These items can currently be borrowed at two different locations: The Frick Environmental Center in Frick Park and the Schenley Park Visitor Center. Each park user must register to become a member of our Lending Library to keep a record of who is using our items and to contact participants in the event of lost or broken items. McKinley Park PROGRAMS Birding Pittsburgh’s Parks Monday, September 12 > 8:00 a.m. Join Naturalist Educator Stephen Bucklin on a birding walk. No prior experience required, and binoculars will be available for those who would like to borrow a pair for the walk. This month’s walk will meet at McKinley Park. Meeting location changes month to month. Dance and Be Fit with Roland Ford Tuesdays, September 13 & 27 > 6:30 p.m. Get your body moving! These movements are inclusive to all and will make you feel great! Class will take place at the McKinley Park Basketball Court. Plant Walk with Community Herbalist, Annie Fox Thursday, September 15 > 6:00 p.m. On this #NaturePact 90-minute walk, we will learn how to identify local edible and medicinal plants, review safe and ethical foraging practices, and connect with the plant life of our region. There will be performers and family friendly 10 activities followed by a movie on the big screen!
Mellon Square PROGRAMS Summer at the Square Lunchtime Music Wednesdays, September 7, 14, 21, 28 and October 5, 12, 19, 26 > 12:00 p.m. Enjoy live music while you soak in the summer sun in downtown’s urban oasis. Schenley Plaza & Surrounding Areas PROGRAMS PNC Carousel April 11 – October 16 > 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. 7 days a week Holiday schedule > noon – 5:00 p.m. (weather dependent) $2 per ride / $60 family pass Adults accompanying children under the age of 3 ride free. The classically styled amusement ride with its brightly colored diverse animals give the merry-go-round its distinct nostalgic character. Erected in 2006, it’s one of the few wheelchair-accessible amusement rides in the region. Power Vinyasa Yoga with Folding Space Yoga Saturdays, September 3, 10, 17, 24 > 10:00 a.m. Mondays, September 5, 12, 19, 26 > 12:00 p.m. The class is a Vinyasa style beginning with the sun salutations and moves through different poses throughout class. Vinyasa means “without separation” — each pose is matched to an inhale or exhalation breath. Participants should bring a mat. Pittsburgh Community Food Bank Grocery Pick-Up Wednesday, September 7, October 8, and November 2 > 3:30 p.m. Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will set-up a distribution site under the tent at Schenley Plaza. Pick and choose which food items will suit you and your family best! Don’t forget to bring your reusable bags, cart and/or boxes. Table-Top Tuesday Tuesdays — September 7, 14, 21, 28 and October 5, 12, 19, 26 > 11:00 a.m. Playing board games is not only entertaining, but it can increase brain function, reduce stress, while meeting new people. Check out a game every Tuesday under the tent at Schenley Plaza. Calliope Concerts Thursday, September 8 > 7:00pm (Bertha and The Belles) Calliope encourages all of us to explore the breadth of our musical roots and engage with our musical heritage. Silent Disco Friday, September 9 > 7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 10 > 7:00 p.m. Enjoy the tunes of DJ Ron Mist and escape into your own world while watching others do the same. We’re going to party hard and not annoy the neighbors! This is a ticketed event. 13
Kid’s Day in Schenley Plaza – Sponsored by Eat’n Park Second Sunday of the month, June through October > 12:00 p.m. Come to Schenley Plaza for free activities for children (and children at heart) with special guests and free rides on the PNC Carousel! Walk with a Doc Saturday, September 17 > 2:00p.m. Join Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for a doctor-led, family-friendly walking event including activities, learning about healthy habits, and meeting new friends. A Midsummer Night’s Dream Friday, September 23 > 6:00 p.m. Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will call on the powers of magic and love as Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks’ continues its 18th season. This is one of Shakespeare’s most well-loved comedies involving love triangles and the magical world of faeries. Bring a blanket or chair and the entire family! Movie Night in Schenley Plaza Saturday, September 24 > 7:00p.m. In celebration of the new season, join us for a viewing of the movie “Up” in Schenley Plaza! There will be snacks, games, and activities available throughout the evening. Riverview Park Day October 2 > 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Riverview Park Day is a family-friendly event that will include, music, food, a CycloCross race, guided hikes, children’s activities and informative and interactive outdoor activities and informational sessions. Get to Know Riverview Park The park is home to the landmark Allegheny Observatory, a visitor’s center, a swimming pool and activities building, a dog park, the natural beauty of the Mairdale watershed, and the popular two-mile Riverview Loop. 17

Anchor Green Garden Care Day Tuesday, September 20 > 5:00 p.m. Join us for garden care days at the Anchor Green in Emerald View Park. Help keep this space looking beautiful all summer long by weeding, removing litter, and caring for plantings. Tools and gloves will be provided. Visitors of Emerald View Park find winding trails, wooded hillsides, and surprise city vistas. Historic spaces within the park feature picnic areas, playgrounds, ballfields, overlooks, and Depression- era sandstone steps and walls. 18
