‘A child leaves our gates as a confident, compassionate citizen who has the ability to move around in society, one who is equipped with the skills of surviving in this complicated world.’ – R.I.T. Alles From My Life, the autobiography GATEWAY COLLEGE annual review and prospectus 2015

Theme for 2015 I am because we are Gateway Colleges have been guided by a different theme each year. In the past we had themes such as ‘Yes we can’, ‘Each one reach one’ and ‘Beat your own mark’, which propelled the school community to pursue excellence. The theme for 2015 was ‘I am because we are’. The selection of a theme for every year is the result of a collaborative effort among teachers and students of all four Gateway schools. The school theme is expected to reflect our values and the ethos of the school. ‘I am because we are’ denotes our sense of oneness and interdependence. We are a school that celebrates the achievements and accomplishments of an individual, together as a family. This recognises the significant part played by those around us in ensuring individual success.

2 GATEWAY COLLEGE The elements of our school crest signify the essential qualities of Gateway College. The shield incorporates four colours. Blue and Grey are the school colours, Red signifies power and energy while white indicates purity. The lions holding the shield stand for bravery and our Sri Lankan heritage. The dove is the school’s highest award in sport. The globe signifies international education. The arrow stands for Gateway’s advances through technology. The book depicts knowledge. The torch signifies enlightenment. The three interlocking squares indicate teamwork and a sense of belonging shared among parents, teachers and students. The colours of the diagonals, orange, green and maroon, represent the three main communities of Sri Lanka, symbolising the multi-ethnic and multireligious harmony of the school.
