The BIOLOGICAL SELF
BIOLOGICAL SELF
Sexual self reflection
Reflection I've learned that one part of human development is the biological self's progression through one's physical and sexual characteristics. The physical qualities and attributes that are a result of our biological and environmental variables are determined by our physical selves. The sexual self, on the other hand, is related to sex and gender and affects a person's total sexual development. Although it is true that both our physical and sexual development have a big impact on how we identify as distinct individuals, there are some aspects that prevent us from expressing our true selves and having a thorough grasp of our bodies.
These are the so-called social norms, which also include ideals of beauty and traditional values. Social standards are necessary guidelines that drive human conduct in the most rational way, yet they nonetheless have the potential to harm us in several ways. For instance, it is common practice to assess physical appearances using the current beauty standards. In my case, I had a love-hate relationship with my appearance since I believed that the only reason, I was valued less than others was because I didn't follow the cultural norms. In addition, society has standards for how men and women should behave to uphold their respective gender roles. In the view of others, deviating from social norms was unethical or dishonorable.
As a result, it caused me to distrust my ability to communicate myself, which prevented me from growing personally. But as I learned more about my biological being, I had a different outlook on both myself and other people. I gained confidence in my body and learnt to appreciate my individuality as a means of self-expression. It also inspired me to value and respect everyone's individual variations, which enabled me to improve my physical and sexual health.
Social Self
SOCIAL SELF
REFLECTION Development in humans is significantly influenced by the social self. It establishes the connections we create with those around us. The social groupings that one interacts with directly, their ties with one another, unrelated external influences, culture, society, economy, and key events are among them. Additionally, social media is now a significant factor in determining one's conduct and ideals. People have become more socially conscious as the world has developed, which is why technology has made it possible for us to establish connections quickly. We now rely on technology to communicate with one another, pursue common interests, and voice our opinions thanks to our exposure to digital platforms.
Our social self uses this to shape our perceptions and ideals when we're making crucial life decisions. However, the pandemic's effect on our lack of social interaction has an impact on how we develop. I was used to being alone in this scenario due to the extended lack of face-to-face encounters, which prevented me from honing my social skills and hampered my capacity to form connections. I have gone nearly two years without having any direct connections with my classmates or any outside forces, so if I am suddenly obliged to deal with people, especially online, I constantly feel uncomfortable and worn out.
I admit that it has affected my personal connections as well as my relationship with myself these days since I find it difficult to understand why I no longer have the energy to connect with people. I learned the value of ongoing social interactions thanks to this event of mine and its negative consequences. Since connections allow us to understand ourselves from the perspective of others, they have a tremendous impact on our health, well-being, capacity for empathy, and sense of self. As a result, I have learned to put effort into developing and maintaining my relationships.
Mental Self
Mental self
Reflection Everything we do, including our ideas and behaviors, is influenced by our mental selves, which greatly enhances our feeling of self. The nature of human cognition and metacognition, which combines our numerous intelligences, are covered by this element. Even though our mental abilities and areas of intellect may differ from others', they are always inborn and develop with each person. As a result, we can all comprehend and process our ideas and activities, however our different approaches to using intelligence in various domains will vary. To efficiently sharpen our knowledge and increase our capacity for understanding, learning, and situational perception, we can also adopt various learning methodologies.
As a student, I frequently compared my ability to absorb teachings with that of other students and constantly questioned my own intelligence in the classroom. No matter how diligently I study, someone will always be more skilled than me. But once I understood the core of our mental selves, I understood that comparing one's intelligence to that of others was invalid. I am more of a bodily- kinesthetic, logical, and naturalist smart person because I appreciate nature, exercise, and solving math issues.
All these intelligences have a tendency to be strongest in the areas where I thrive the most and am most interested. With this, I became aware of the numerous intelligences we possess, which we may use in a variety of contexts and are not only confined to what we study in the classroom. Because we may use our intellect in many different areas of our lives to help us delve more deeply into our sense of self, every person's mind is unique and unmatched.
Emotional self
EMOTIONAL SELF
MRR2: Emotional intelligence
Reflection We all naturally experience emotions. They cannot be avoided, yet depending on our beliefs and experiences, our feelings dictate how we subjectively interpret and express our emotions. Our ability to control our emotions, as demonstrated by how well we can identify, control, and express them in trying or challenging circumstances, indicates our level of emotional intelligence. Furthermore, managing our emotions does not include exerting maximum effort to restrain and repress them. To exhibit a pleasant and healthy emotional well- being, it is more about rationally controlling our emotional outbursts and adapting to our circumstances.
Back then, whenever I found myself in difficult circumstances, I usually associated emotional expressiveness with a bad reaction. This is so that others don't mistake tears for weakness and fury for destructive behavior. As a result, I usually try to control my negative emotions to avoid any harmful effects they might have. As a result, there is no transparency in how I react to diverse circumstances, which will limit my ability to grow and develop emotionally.
But as I got to know my inner self, I discovered that suppressing our feelings implies we don't deal with them. It may lead to accumulations that have a harmful impact on behavior and health. As a result, we shouldn't be hesitant to express our feelings and emotions as much as we can. However, we should not forget to utilize effective and healthy coping mechanisms because they can help us understand more about ourselves and others as we progress into empathetic human beings.
Spiritual self
SPIRITUAL SELF
Spiritual self reflection
Reflection Our relationship with other people and the natural world gives our lives significance and enables us to enjoy them to the fullest. This is referred to as spirituality. It involves our path toward a more fulfilling existence and a state of health. However, to find inner peace, we must fulfill several elements of who we are. In fact, when our fundamental requirements and objectives—such as those related to our education, finances, interpersonal relationships, etc.—are accomplished, we might feel content.
However, I also think that it should happen when a person finds their genuine potential as individuals who enable love for their community in addition to caring for themselves. And occasionally, to achieve these objectives, we must endure never-ending hardships and sorrows. I used to believe that the only way I could be comfortable and happy was to live the life that other people expected me to, such as achieving good grades, graduating from college with a respectable degree, earning a steady job, and having children by a certain age.
I mistakenly believed that success is defined by meeting these cultural expectations, yet this is really an attempt to win approval from others. I now believe that satisfaction is a type of success we obtain when we achieve enjoyment from what we want to do in life after learning from our spiritual selves. From here, understanding who we truly are and what truly matters can assist us to understand ourselves better, resulting in a life full of hope and meaning.
If I had to sum up my total experience in MY overall module 2, I would say that it was difficult experience but also really fascinating. I can go deeper into my inner aspects since it is important to understand oneself. Prior to gaining insights into the lessons, I was unaware of how complicated the self is. The social self is the component of Overall, I can say that I am captivated oneself that most piqued my interest by the topics I am learning through because it's here that I learnt about this course; but, I genuinely believe the relationships between the people that, given better conditions, I could and things around us and how they have accomplished more and affect how we might grow. performed better in this course.
