11 December ‘20/January ‘21December ‘20/January ‘211 D De c em b e r‘2 0 /Jan u a r y‘2e c em b e r‘2 0 /Jan u a r y‘2 1Reaching out to OthersReaching out to Otherss R Re a c h in go u tt oO t h e re a c h in go u tt oO t h e r sWe are entering the time of year when we look to gather together, to share our joys, and to find ways to reach out and help others. The challenges of this year (and the exhaustion that comes from those challenges) make these desires both more needed and more difficult. But don’t give up!Volunteering and service are more important during a crisis than ever. Social distancing does not mean social isolation. We’re all in this together, so be a helper. Let’s all continue to do our part for the common good, so that when this crisis is over, we’re proud of how we came together to keep ourselves, our neighbors, and our communities, thriving. Some ideas for good works that you and your club can do:• Create a “shop squad” through a sign up to individually pick up groceries and medicine for elderly or home bound people in your community.• Gather family and friends and organize a songfest or plan to go caroling outside the windows of a neighbors or nursing home.• Organize a “shovel squad” and offer snow shoveling and ice removal for those who can’t.• Send Christmas decorations and gifts for children who are homeless at a local shelter.• Gather combs, toothbrushes, shampoo, razors, etc. to make “I Care” kits for local shelters.• Offer to be tech support! With the push to make everything virtual, there are a lot of people who aren’t technologically savvy enough and are suffering from “tech isolation”. Offer to be the tech support they need to stay connected.• Let the elderly and homebound know you care. Write them letters, call them, and send goodies to their residence. You can drop these off directly at their houses or at a nursing home.• Provide envelops and pens/pencils to the people you give notes to so they can write back —or write others.• Consider doing a “12 Days of Christmas” or a “Countdown to the Holidays” campaign. Provide notes of encouragement or small (perhaps, handmade) gifts to those who won’t be able to gather with their families and friends.
