Kommerzialrat Robert Rogner is an Austrian builder, visionary and the founder of Rogner International Hotels & Resorts. Due to his innovative spirit he built “bridges” in places that were deemed to be unreachable. KR, as he is known, was among the first to invest in the future of the new post-communist Albania. On a sheep pasture, very close to the President’s Office, under adventurous conditions, the first hotel of western standards was built in Tirana. Because the country only possessed gravel, cement and construction equipment of bad quality, all construction materials and machineries were loaded on ships in Trieste and then shipped to Albania. 120 Albanian employees were prepared in relevant schools in Austria during the construction time and they managed to welcome the first clients in 1995 in Rogner Hotel Tirana.
