EDITOR’S NOTE MATTHEW S. SANTANA JR. EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Email: [email protected] JCOM aims to be the leading international journal for the study of co-operatives. It will provide the primary forum for advancement and dissemination of scientific knowledge on co-operative organizations and their management. Based on the feedback from the field and the obvious excitement around the journal is taking steps towards this goal already before its inaugural issue. JCOM will strive to attract and engage an international readership that is primarily academic. University libraries and individual academics are the primary target group for the journal. However, given the scarcity of rigorous and well marketed journals with similar focus, the journal seeks to attract professional audiences as well. This is important given that the ultimate test for theoretical contributions is the application of the new knowledge in the practices of organizations and in the praxis of individuals. Any papers that you wish to submit, either SANTANA individually or co-operatively, are much GLOBAL appreciated and will make a substantial MAGAZINE contribution to the development and success of the journal. If you are uncertain about the suitability of your work to JCOM or have any other questions concerning the journal, please do not hesitate to make contact (using the email address below). LINDA MCDOWELLPRESCRIPTION FOR YOUR POWERFULLYYOU.WORDPRESS.COMSOUL, GETAWAY, GO SOMEWHERE, AND JUST BE! I did something a little strange for me this weekend. I decided to just get in my car and go away. I did have to call and make reservations for my hotel room, but I did that the day of my get away adventure. The reason for this spontaneous moment was that I just needed to get away. I had been working really hard, there were some family things going on, and I just needed to take a break from everything. SANTANA GLOBAL MAGAZINE |  15

So I got in my car, and began my trip, at first I felt a 1l8ittle guilty. When I say I needed to get away I Below I shared some of the pictures went on this trip by myself without my husband or I took. Don’t be afraid to take time for friends, just me. I think it was the first time I had you, and to treat you as special as you are. Enjoy the scenery! taken a little get away by myself. I went to Gatlingberg, TN, which is just a few hours from me. It was one of the best things I could ever do for myself. I stayed by the mountains in a hotel that was on the river. The beauty of the mountains, in the fall, with bright yellow, red, and orange colors of the trees, was breathtaking. Then to add icing to the cake was the sound of the river, and the motion of the water hitting against the pebbles and rocks. It was so soothing to my soul. I was able to rest, recharge, and replenish my soul. I was alone with no expectations for my time, no deadlines, no rush to go from this place to the next. I was able to calm my spirit, ground and center myself with my Creator, most of all I was just able to be! Sometimes we just need to stop, pause, and just be. I sometimes have so many things on my plate, that I often forget to savor the moment. In those moments away, I was able to savor the moment of a beautiful autumn day, a sunset over the mountains, a cool breeze running across my face, and the melodic sound of the river rushing over the stones that are the inhabitants of the river’s edge. In one moment I watched a beautiful red leaf, fall and be carried to the ground by the wind. I enjoyed the coziness of hot chocolate as I wrapped myself in a blanket and felt the crisp air, and watched the sun drift way past the mountains. I did this as a gift to myself. My own token of appreciation for the hard work I had been doing. I also realized that I had to nurture and take care of myself before I could give to another person. I found me in that solitude, I appreciated my strength, my courage to do something just for me, because I deserved to. Some, may even call it a little selfish, maybe so. However, I can’t tell others to take care of themselves, to nourish their souls, and commune with their God if I have never experienced the feeling. As I think about it I was not alone, it was me and God. I was enjoying and feeling grounded in His presence. I felt him though we did not talk much. I knew he was with me, because he restored my soul. I lived that verse over this weekend. So, the moral of this article is just this, Take the time, it is imperative to restore your soul in Him! M–O–T–H–E–R By Matthew S. Santana Jr. Wishing my mommy a happy mother's day M–O–T–H–E–R “M” is for the million things she gave me, “O” means ordering my step for a great life, “T” is for the tears she shed to save me, “H” is for her heart of purest gold; “E” is for her eyes, with love-light shining, “R” means right, and right she’ll always be, Put them all together, they spell “MOTHER,” A word that means the world to me. Mothers are superwomen who can do anything. Moms have a way of making everything better, no matter how difficult life gets. my mommy is my best friend, as many of you probably already know. Her smile has the ability to brighten a room. Mom raised me to love the Lord and to be tough, so that when I hit a stumbling block and fall, I can get back up, brush myself off, and keep running. My mother is always there for me, and she has the best sense of love, patience, peace and knows her worth, which I am grateful to have inherited. SANTANA GLOBAL MAGAZINE |  17

Mindset & Money On so many levels you are a combination of Management: your parents, both your mom and your dad. What Do Your Mom & You may display characteristics of one over Dad Say About You the other and you may even look like one more than the other, however, it is the Kevette Minor combination that makes you who you are Kane along with your personality and expressions which make you unique. SANTANA GLOBAL MAGAZINE |  19 What I find the most fun about taking a moment to reflect on what your mom and dad have to say about you is the self-discovery that is involved. So let me share a little of what I've discovered in recent introspection. I get my financial acumen from my mom, while I get my entrepreneurial ambition from my dad. Today I own and operate a financial firm with a growing team of financial advisors who also work on an entrepreneurial basis. So in my career, I can see that both my mom and dad have had a significant yet balanced influence over who I’ve become. Can you say the same about your parents? Take a moment to reflect and consider their contributions to who you have become both by influence and by DNA. Yes, there are some things that become a part of your personality and even your habits because of who they are or were having been passed down through DNA transfer. I discovered this to be the case for myself considering that my father was not present during the years I was growing up. He and I did not have a close relationship, for many reasons. However, I discovered after his death that there were some uncanny things we had in common. Things like: our favorite candy were uncommonly the same ( York Peppermint Patties), I was influenced to enjoy motorcycles when he took me for my first ride on his motorcycle as a kid, and I have an inherent need for speed because he was a race car driver. What things can you identify have been passed to you by your parents? Are there preferences you hNaOvMe AthDaI Ct y  o| u  2c4an’t particularly put a finger on where it came from?

There are a number of things that I do that are what I’d call quirky and hadn’t specifically been able to identify where they came from until I was managing my father's final affairs and going through his personal information. In that process, I discovered things that I probably would otherwise have never known because he would never have shared in conversation. I discovered that I like some of the hobbies that he had. I also realized where I get my specific habit of organization. You see because I lived in his home for 7months after he passed until we sold the property I was able to go through all of his personal things. I saw his receipts from general and business purchases. I saw his personal items and could identify his personal habits based on the products he used and preferred. As strange as it may sound, this experience made me feel so close to him despite the fact that we did not have a relationship while he was alive. I learned so much in the process of handling his final affairs and going through his personal items. The most significant and influential though was the book he left behind for my sister and I to read after his death. He told her about it and made sure that she knew to look for it on his computer after he passed away. He shared so many personal and intimate details about his experiences and perspective that would never have been shared because of pride while he was alive. Personally, I believe that this was a kind of legacy for him to pass down to us. Now, he requested that no one except the two of us would read it but the closure is provided for us in knowing the answers to questions we never got to ask was absolutely amazing and so encouraging. This book was truly a letter of love left behind for our benefit. So what are the characteristics or traits that you’ve gotten from your parents which contribute to your talents and special abilities (your superpowers)? If your parents have passed away, are there any things they left behind that give clues into the person they were that influenced you to become the person you are? Have they left things behind that you’ve discovered and realized they’d never have shared while they were alive? What have they shared with you that you will never forget? There are always some words of wisdom that will never be forgotten because of the impactful truth which has an influence on you until this day. Are there traits or characteristics which you see in your children which reflect in the same way? You may not have thought about how your parents' habits and even their words have affected your perspective on where money is concerned. We call this influence your money story. What is your money story? How have your parents affected your relationship with money? Were they a positive influence toward wealth or were they a challenging influence that has left you wondering why wealth has escaped you? We’d love to hear your perspective. Make a comment on our social media to let us know how your mom and dad have affected you. We’d love to hear more about what your mom and dad have to say about you. Collins Kitchen Creations LLC I’m Evelyn Collins, self-proclaimed author, Professional Chef and Independent Caterer. Now small business owner of Collins Kitchen Creations L.L.C. which specializes in traditional comfort food made with a healthy gourmet twist, six signature sub sandwiches, chicken tacos, soups, salads, and much MORE. Born and raised in Gary, Indiana, I was inspired at a very young age to enter into the culinary world and become a cook like my phenomenal mother, who was well known for her AMAZING soul food dinners. Although she lost her battle with type 2 diabetes very early in life, I found encouraging motivation to take cooking to a whole different level, by creating healthier gourmet recipes from traditional homestyle southern inspired meals. CKC Veggie Delughts CKC Seasoning The Completion In 2015 I relocated to California for the second time to pursue my passion for food. I became active in my community and affiliated with the Loma Linda Community Garden. The ingredients used to create Collins Kitchen Creations (CKC’s) fabulous delicious cuisines and herbal spice blends actually comes from an amazing variety of vegetables and herbs organically grown at the Loma Linda Community Garden, where no harmful chemicals or pesticides are ever used. In addition, there are many medicinal health properties found in the herbs I’ve incorporated into Collins Kitchen Creations Seasoning Mixes. A few of the herbs utilized are rosemary, tarragon, marjoram, turmeric, ginger and lavender. These herbs alone contain a plethora of health benefits such as boost the immune system, delays aging, assist with anti-inflammation, improves brain function, eye health, the digestive system, blood circulation, blood sugar levels, and airways which aides in fighting off viral disease. They are also loaded with tons of vitamins and minerals like iron, potassium, calcium., riboflavin, vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, just to name a few, also a great source of fiber. Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others? I have had a passion for food and cooking since I was a kid. Learning to cook from my mom and grandmother. As I got older, I began to experiment with different flavors and spices that I picked up from traveling and watching the chefs on the early days of the Food Network. I like to call my food Eclectic Soul because it a mix-up of different styles and cultures. I am known for delicious food and great hospitality. I have been hosting dinner events since 2011 and I started hosting infused dinner parties several years ago and that transitioned into the Infused Marketplace. I am proud of the progression of my business as a whole. Pineapple’s Foodservice and Events will continue to evolve and offer quality services and events. I like the consultation process because it helps me learn about the client to be to offer the best service structured just for them. Who else deserves credit in your story? My mom deserves more credit than I give her because she layed the foundation for who I am today… My daughters and grandchildren have first and foremost been my greatest inspiration and motivation. My sisters, brother, cousin, and friends that are more like sisters have been so supportive and very instrumental to my success. My mentor Vina Hayes with Simply Beautiful Events has really been helpful and encouraging. I also want to shout out Lizz with Willow Wellness for stepping in and making videos and flyers and just being real…

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us? My favorite childhood memory was when I was a Junior Police Officer for the Metro Police Department. Growing up I always wanted to be a Cop you couldn’t tell me I wasn’t going to be 5. O “LOL”. My grandmother God rest her soul worked for the Police Department for 26 years before she retired. Growing up she would take me to work with her a lot and as you could imagine I saw and heard a lot. Night court by far was my favorite. While being a Junior Police officer we would learn drills, police codes, and what it would take to be an officer of the law. Those were the good ole days.
