REDISCOVERING the new you. My view on life is different from a year ago. One of my favorite passages is 2 Corinthians 5:17, Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature, the old things passed away, new things have come. 1. Through REDISCOVERING the new Tanya, I value my time with friends and family differently. I’m more intentional about checking on them. Being there for them. Filling a need if I’m able to. Unfortunately, due to past traumatic childhood experiences I used to shut people off from me. I was very guarded because I didn’t want anyone to have access to hurt me like the hurt, I experienced as a youth. Don’t take those closest to you for granted. I’ve REDISCOVERED the value of friendships and relationships as they are needed. Especially healthy long-lasting relationships. 2. I laugh more. During my recovery period, I watched comedy. I did not entertain sadness, I avoided people that could steal my joy. It’s ok to be selfish in that respect because you want to awaken the Endorphins that create happy hormones which in turn creates a happy mood. Who has time to focus on the sadness when you’re smiling and laughing. I got rid of toxic people in my life and invited people in my life that brought peace, added value to me by sharing their knowledge and experiences that were a positive and not a negative. 3. Sunlight: did you know that lack of sunlight or vitamin D creates the feelings of sadness, depression, and mood swings. Create a back yard oasis or take long walks. Plants, bright color cushions, heck even a water feature. I sat outdoors in my backyard often and took in the sun, mother nature. I rediscovered my green thumb wasn’t so bad after all, I learned to take time to breathe fresh air and woosah more. 4. When faced with triggers from my past trauma, I remind myself of where my help comes from, and I draw on my Heavenly Father’s strength. I remember the days I would go to my Radiation treatments. As soon as they rolled me under the machine to administer it, I was so frightened. So, day one, I decided to conquer my fears by quoting in my head, Psalm 23:1-6, which starts, “Yea though I walk through the valley of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” It equipped me with comfort and peace knowing I was protected and no matter the result, I was going to be fine. God equipped me with the tools to use as a layer of protection. I REDISCOVERED Tanya in that journey because I learned I could get through anything. REDISCOVERING yourself after traumatic experiences can do mighty wanders to your spirit. You have pep in your step that makes you feel embolden to take on the world. 1. Don’t be afraid to pursue your passions. When you follow God’s vision for YOU, and live out His purpose passionately, you will always be wealthy. You will never go broke. 2. Try new things. If there is something you’ve always wanted to do, DO IT! Step out on faith. Trust me, God will order your steps and He will put people in your path to help you. 3. PRAYER. I can’t stress enough the importance of prayer. Your connection with your Heavenly Father lets him know you love Him, need Him. In return, He will bless you abundantly. 4. Remove distractions. Whether it’s people or things. Stay focused. One of my mentors stated, “You have to chase after your dreams like someone stole it.” Bad habits from my past like starting something without completion- that’s the old Tanya. Through my obedience and answering God’s plan for me, I’m passionate about being an advocate for SURVIVORSHIP and breast cancer survivors. The best part about this is I’m breaking generational curses, creating generational wealth, and leaving a legacy behind. Take risk unlike before and protect your peace. Lastly, every day I make a point to ask God when I rise, what can I do to help someone else today. I let people know I love them because I genuinely do. I smile more because smiling is infectious and can make someone else’s day. I do my best to operate in and out of love.
