SUBWAY DIARIES time. They gotta sur vive r ight? Finally, Inter net user s. It seems like we can't sur vive Tor ont o without the Inter net in this age. Without it, our lives suck. Going nor thbound, you?ll see people sleeping, Line 1Southbound: Wilson, Yorkdale, Glencair n reading, or chilling, but as soon as the tr ain hits a station like Davisville, it's like a mir acle happens. Line 1 Nor thbound: Davisville, Summerhill and The same thing happens going southbound. When Rosedale you reach a station like Wilson, the movements become over whelming. You?ll see people r ushing, On the subway, you see different types of people. r ummaging around for their phones in their bags or We have the reader s, and those who are always on pockets, closing books, making calls, texting. Some their laptops. We have the tired ones, sleeping on a may even be watching 3 minutes of an episode of whole damn 2- seater like babies. In these times of a your favour ite show. Yeah it?s like that. We all love pandemic, I wouldn?t be bothered much about that. the connection, don?t we? Not even kidding; this was me in Januar y last year. I had just moved to Toronto from Alber ta and it was my fir st time on the subway. Damn r ight- - I had never been on a tr ain. I was retur ning from downtown after a job hunt and on the subway I heard, ?NEXT STATION: EGLINTON, EGLINTON STATION.? I was like, OHHH MY GOD, I?m lost. I had heard ?EDMONTON STATION?instead of Eglinton. I asked a lady behind me where we were. ?Eglinton West? she said. Ohhhh! I wondered how far I was from York Univer sity. Yes, in my head, that shor t distance from Dundas to Eglinton West seemed so long. And yes, I thought I was in Edmonton. If only I had seen the map on the wall showing the stations and the distance between them. Then we have the so- called ?yutes.? Most of the time they are on their way to busy places like Dundas Square. Other times, they are just enjoying the r ide. They will be yelling at ever ybody, or singing. Sometimes they just mind their own business. There are also homeless people on the tr ain. I don?t judge them and neither should you. There could be many reasons why they are homeless. After the lockdown, many of them came down to Sheppard- Yonge station because that mall was open. Eaton Center hadn?t been opened at the

Taking JUST BE! to Africa feels like taking my baby home for the first time. Zimbabwe is where I was born, I am Zimbabwean and will forever be. The love and inspiration you have seen in this issue is real and I am really grateful. This is just the beginning, in the news and online all we see about countries like Zimbabwe and Ghana is poverty and crime but really there is also beauty in Africa. JUST BE!
