During a routine maintenance inspection, I was off on a tangent looking at adamaged pathway when I spotted what turned out to be a very rare orchid. Once it was photographed and identifiedby the then Dept. of Parks and Wildlife, it turned out that I had found the Queen of Sheeba orchid, botanically knownas Thelymitra variegata. Google that name and see for yourself……stunning!!!Who do you admire in the Turf Industry and why? I’ve been lucky enough to be influenced by many professionalsin the turf industry. Initially through Ross Domney and Paul Smith (Rockingham - Larkhill). I have also been able to gain valuableknowledge from turf professionals like Jerod Hall (Kiwi), Adam Davey and Greg Jackson. I have always admired how these guyswent about delivering first class turf surfaces. I even had a short stint working alongside the recently award-winning superintendentat Bunbury GC, Dave Brennen. All great guys with no egos who are willing to share their vast experience and turf knowledge whencalled upon.Who inspires you in life? My amazing wife and partner Karyn. A primary school teacher that deals with kids all dayand then deals with a big kid when she gets home. The consummate professional and my rock. Never seems to get flustered and is soorganised. Selfless and kind and always putting others before herself. I got lucky with this one!!If you won lotto? Living so close to the Mandurah Estuary I’ve got my eye on a Harris Craft party pontoon. These are magicfor the family and would be great to run me into the marina for breakfast, lunch or dinner, with a quiet frothy or two on the way. Theyhave to be seen to be believed. I only need a 100k or so…Sporting Hero? Being a West Coast Eagles fan, I would have to say the Holy Trinity of Cousins, Judd and Kerr. The yearsfrom 1992 to 2006 were when those boys were at their peak and the footy season couldn’t come around soon enough.Favourite way to relax? Love to golf. Absolute tragic. Got the gear but no idea. Great way to take my mind off life for 4hours and focus on that little white ball, oh and I love the banter that goes with it. Music, Fishing, family and travel.
