We made pots alongside other ceramic artists with a variety of experience, from beginners to seasoned potters. We met Vergil Ortiz, a Cochiti Pueblo native and Indian Arts and Culture’s Living Treasure and Gus Smith, a 26-year-old potter from Phoenix, who became our soda firing mentor. We worked with primitive-saggar firing, atmospheric soda firing, raku and gas fired kilns, underglazes, terra sigillate and other surface treatments. We loved it!
