MINISTER OF PUBLIC ENTERPRISES, PRAVIN GORDHAN BRIEFS THE MEDIA ON THE STATUS OF TRANSNET OPERATIONS IN DURBAN The Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan and Minister of Trade and Industry, Ebrahim Patel held a joined briefing to assess and provide an update on Transnet Operations. The Port of Durban Terminal overall performance continues to improve, with strict monitoring in place. The priority focus by the Transnet team since the heavy rains and flooding hit Durban and surrounding areas has been emergency recovery and stabilisation of operations. The Port is currently operational, since 13 April 2022, when operations resumed, and has handled 58 vessels in total - 30 ships were incoming; 27 ships were sailings and one ship was passing- by. Marine capacity has increased to 98% after the reopening of the N2 going south. In the port precinct, the bulk of the damage was on the two lanes on Bayhead Road going into the container terminal and the Island View Precinct. Bayhead Road has since been stabilised, with one lane going in each direction. In the next two weeks, the two additional lanes will be stabilised for more efficient traffic flow. In the long term, the canal bridge will be opened up, along with the widening of the entire Bayhead Road. The next phase of the port's rehabilitation is expected to be completed at the end of April, and the long-term solution is expected to be completed over the next 12 months.

Transnet Foundation TRANSNET PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SALDANHA BAY MUNICIPALITY REAPS REWARDS THROUGH A SOLD OUT EASTER TOURNAMENT Former President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela is quoted to have said, “Sports have the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire, the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language that they understand. Sports can create hope, where there was once only despair. It is more powerful than governments in breaking down racial barriers. It laughs in the face of all types of discrimination. Sports is the game of lovers”. Saldanha is a critical operational area for Transnet and a crucial heartbeat for the South African economy. In 2018, Transnet entered into a rand-for-rand partnership with the Saldanha Bay Municipality towards the construction of the Transnet Saldanha Stadium. The real impact of the partnership went way beyond that beautiful R16m physical structure that so boldly and prominently reminds us of what we can achieve through collaboration. There is absolutely no doubt that this partnership gave birth to much more than the initial intent of building a sports facility in the area. On Friday, 1 April 2022, we saw dignitaries from across South Africa to honour the launch event of the 2022 Super 8 Easter Rugby Tournament. Among them were the Executive Mayor of the Saldanha Bay Municipality; Councillor Andre Truter, the Deputy Mayor Charmaine Laubser, Deputy President of the South African Rugby Union; Mr. Francois Davids, Boland Rugby President; Mr. Bennie van Rooi and Transnet delegation led by Mr. Ali Motala; Transnet Freight Rail’s Ore Corridor Acting Managing Executive. The three-day Tournament which took place over the Easter weekend saw Transnet and its employee volunteers with an opportunity to truly embrace and understand what drives the community, the nuances, what makes the community tick and this helps to grow the bond between the organisation and the community, particularly our local employees. It went beyond just a sporting event; it had a direct impact on the local economy with local vendors participating, community members paying the nominal fee for other activities planned for a family outing, establishments of accommodation completely booked out and a stadium full of spectators from across South Africa. The games were broadcast live on SuperSport, giving an opportunity for the Transnet brand to receive positive Advertising Value Equivalent. The fact that the Tournament event experienced a bigger and faster growth than initially anticipated is testimony to its success.
