Saving Summer is a coming-of- age story about a teenage Kansas girl enduring and overcoming a childhood of abuse at the hands of narcissistic parents.
The story follows the protagonist as she develops both a network of trusted friends as well as her own independence throughout the sixties, seventies, and eighties.
One of the central plot pieces in the novel is the main character, Summer Stevens, being kicked out of her home at age 16 by her stepfather. She goes on to persevere through homelessness while continuing on as a high school student.
The novel was written to provide hope to victims of trauma. Reading Saving Summer can reinforce that you are a victor, not a victim of circumstance.
