Support The Future Of Environmentally Friendly Fabric With UK Silk Brand
If you are looking for a product which looks good, feels good and is genuinely good for the planet, look no further than Mayfair Silk's full Mulberry tree silk bed linen and lifestyle accessories lines. MayfairSilk, a London based silk house known for their luxurious designs and premium quality home and lifestyle products, have now committed to exclusively retailing silk products produced from carbon sequestering Mulberry trees.
The announcement coincides with 2020 being named the hottest year on record. Moreover, early research from 2021 indicates that the Earth is now, indisputably, two degrees warmer than it was in the 20th century, with greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere continuing to rise. As such, acknowledging their responsibility as a premier brand, MayfairSilk has made the decision to only utilise environmentally friendly Mulberry trees in the production of their silk bed linen and lifestyle accessories.
Capitalising on the latest research, which indicates that while 27,680kg of CO2 is emitted into the atmosphere to produce a tonne of cotton, a tonne of silk has a toll of only 34kg, MayfairSilk is committed to further improving the environmental benefits of silk use. Therefore, the company has selected Mulberry trees for their silk goods as it is an even more sustainable mode of production. Mulberry trees both sequester carbon from the atmosphere and produce fruits which can be consumed by the local communities in which the trees grow.
Plus, the process of Mulberry tree silk production is completely cyclical. Silkworms consume the leaves to produce silk and any remaining organic matter is used as feed for aquaculture fish farms, with the organic material from these ponds in turn being used as fertiliser to cultivate more trees. Additionally, MayfairSilk have partnered with The Eden Reforestation Projects in order to plant one tree for every order placed. A non- profit organisation, their mission is to plant millions of trees each year and provide consistent income for more than 25,000 people living in extreme poverty.
MayfairSilk was founded in London by husband and wife duo Marcus and Darshana Ubl. The company is passionate about providing high quality silk products to their customers, products that are both bio-degradable, sustainable and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified. Darshana Ubl, the co-founder of MayfairSilk said, “We encourage more companies to follow this approach of planting trees on behalf of the consumer, which in turn reverses pollution. We strongly believe that companies can give back what we take from the environment and maintain a balanced eco-system”
