Together we traverse the path of unity that fosters a peaceful and humane society
The Issues It is not new in our world today the discrimination, insult and inequality people get to experience every day. With the vast changes through technology and it being involved in society, the issue of gender discrimination and inequality still resurfaces. The world is rapidly evolving, allowing diverse interaction of people within different countries. And as we connect with other people every day, the sense of justice prolonging shall invariably persist. To treat each one with equality regardless of gender is fundamental in order to be united and attain peace. And only in unity and harmony is where we can cross the bridge, a symbol of development and progress. Switzerland is the most well-known country for upholding a gender equality. The country’s gender gap has becoming smaller through the years which makes them a safe space nation, upholding peace, unity and harmony among all. According to the World Economic Forum, Switzerland was able to put an end to inequality through these key elements. First, political representation. Women were given the ability to vote a nd fun for election at the federal level by the male majority of Switzerland. With that, the country’s elections in 2019 went down in history as the “women’s election” as more women were elected in parliament. Second, education. With more young women being able to pursue high education than men, the country has made significant progress in achieving gender equality in education. Being in unity as a country allows us to nourish and development prosperity that will empower others to speak up and seek for change in society. Insecurity and injustice are man-made consequences of unfair policies and practices. It is time to correct these and thrive for a better tomorrow for everyone. Let us embrace the presence and importance of one another and uphold equality at all times in order to lead us to a meaningful and peaceful life.
Learning Insights My learning insights for the whole quarter is that first, I was able to understand the concept of sex and gender more. In the first module, these topics were the first to introduce and discussed. At first, I was not confident as I do not clearly identify the meaning of sex and gender, what I thought before was they were just the same. However, after four weeks of discussion and activities given to us, I am now able to differentiate the two words. Second, I have come across issues regarding gender that made me open minded to these. Particularly issues of gender discrimination, gender equality and human rights as these three issues have impacted me the most in the second module. Lastly, I was capable to understand how countries and its government advocate and promote gender equality to its citizens in order to build a surrounding where everyone embodies unity and harmony. My Overa ll Rating The course GED109 expounded my thoughts in gender and society. I would rate my overall experience as 8.5/10 because I gained a lot of new learnings and insights. However, some of the instructions in the activities given where not explain thoroughly and some of the activities have a limited time as the deadline was a day or two away from the moment the activity was given. The activities I like about this course are creating film analysis because I was able to explore new films that speaks about so much empowerment not only to women, but to men as well.
