Nate Reviews:January 2020 First Edition COVET Covet is a fashion styling game that utilizes real products made by FASHION different fashion houses and designers. Its origin can be traced back to the classic “paper dolls” that were played before, and innovated to suit today’s generation. Garments are either bought or won as prizes from style challenges, and people from all over the world can vote and give opinions on the players’ style looks. WARDROBE: One important game element of Covet is every player’s wardrobe. It is the collective value of all the garments owned under a particular account. A wardrobe’s value determines when a player can advance to the next level, which unlocks more hairstyle and make-up options. In order to increase one’s wardrobe value, players must join style challenges. These are themed challenges, wherein the player is expected to simulate the role of a fashion stylist and create a look from Covet’s wide array of clothes to best fit the assigned challenge. OWN THAT RUNWAY: Upon joining challenges, players from around the world can vote for one’s look. Two looks made by different players will be pitted against each other, and people are tasked to vote for the better one. Voting earns a player with tickets, which can be used to join more style challenges.

GAMEPLAY: After the voting period, players will receive the results of the look that they submitted for a particular challenge. Ratings are usually out of 5. Scores that reach 4 and above are given rewards, which could help increase one’s wardrobe value. These rewards can also be used to style looks for other style challenges. Every week, players are encouraged to join at least 28 style challenges. Upon joining the 28th challenge, a major reward is given to the player in the form of an expensive item which drastically increases wardrobe value. Once a look is submitted and voting has begun, players can no longer change it. Once a rating for the look has been given, it is no longer possible to redo a style challenge. Also, style challenges are only good for about two days, so not checking the app daily reduces the challenges that one can play. Players can join fashion houses, which are essentially groups that connects them with players from around the world. Being in a fashion house enables one to borrow from another player’s wardrobe for garments that are needed in a particular challenge. Players in a fashion house can also chat with each other, and comment on one another’s looks before submitting.

USE IN EDUCATION: From how I see it, the game is the perfect choice for styling simulations. This is ideal for those who are studying fashion design and styling. It may also help in stimulating creativity and improving the aesthetics of students. Content-wise, I can see it being used to discuss trends and stereotypes under Trends, Networks, and Critical Thinking in the 21st Century. It can be used to express one’s individuality and taste, and the various ways on how this is manifested in the real world.
