VOLLEYBALL

History The game of volleyball, originally called “mintonette,” was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan, a graduate of the Springfield College of the YMCA and physical director of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) in Holyoke, Massachusetts.He invented volleyball after the invention of basketball only four years before and designed the game to be a combination of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball.





Basic Skills There are six(6) basic skills in playing volleyball and that is serving, passing, setting, blocking, digging and hitting..







Blocking Blocking is a skill in volleyball used to prevent the opponent from a successful attack hit. A block technique is used to deflect the ball coming from an attacker. The blocker is trying to block the ball back into the opponent's court.

Digging To dig a volleyball means you contact and intercept the ball, while your team is on defense by deflecting it up in the air with your arms held together. You defend, or dig the volleyball once it crosses into your court after an attack hit by the opposing team, so they don't score a point.



Technical and Tactical Skill Technical Skill The technical skill in volleyball are serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, and digging. Tactical Skill The tactical skills are reading the play or situation, acquiring the knowledge needed to make an appropriate tactical decision, and applying correct decision-making skills to the problems at the correct time
