Tips to Improve YourIn the world of social media, a person’s image has become more im- Self Imageportant than ever before. Your self-image is the totality of your mental, emotional, and physical expression of yourself. Recent statistics revealsthat it takes less than a second to form an impression about someonewhen they see them, from where they live, how much money they make, their education and even their character. In a professional environment, your image conveys to an employer if; you are capable of the job? Are you trustwor-thy? Can you deliver efficiency? These factors are influenced by how you look. Having a well-groomed self-imagealso makes you look smart and confident. In a relationship it helps you to find an equal ground with your partner andbuilds your love affairs. Just as looking good gets you that dream job and promotion, so does it get you the man/woman of your dreams? Here are top 5 tips to help improve your self-image:1.) Take assessment of your current look and style.Ask yourself when was the last time you had your hair styled? When was the last time you changed your hairstyle, color etc? When is the last time you shopped for new clothing? Updating your look does not have to take a lot ofmoney. I recommend updating your look at least every one to two years. Thrift stores are a great way to incorporatenew pieces to build your new wardrobe. Also, the sale racks at low end stores is another option. Just make sureyou’re purchasing items that are current and on trend. Mixing and matching low end with high end pieces are a greatway to keep your look timeless and classic. While shopping for new clothing make sure to get sized for a new bra.Wearing the right undergarments makes a huge difference in the way clothes look on you.As mentioned above, changing up your clothing style at least every one or two years, also applies to your hairstyle. This can be something as simple as getting a new hair color. Now with wigs becoming the new “it” thing, switchingup your hairstyle has become much easier without the permanent commitment.2.) Search through Beauty & Fashion Magazines to choose a hairstyle, fashion style and makeup.Do you have the right look and style for your profession and/or age? Fashion and beauty magazines are a great start-ing point to see what’s in and what looks you may want to try.Try hair wigs to see what looks are flattering for you. Go to a makeup counter to get a free makeup makeover and tipson cosmetic colors that works for your skin tone. These are inexpensive ways to start the transition to improving onesself- image. When trying different clothing/apparel, pay attention to the types of fabrics and materials that flatter your body type.Do not focus simply on the price and how appealing an item looks but insteadmake sure it fits properly and looks well on your body.Wearing clothing that’s comparable to your profession is key. If you do not havethe budget to buy a wardrobe for work and play, then purchase transitional clothingthat will work for both. Just avoid wearing clothing perceived to be for play in theworkplace.IM 32
& LiveYour Best Life3.) Get Active. We hear this all of the time. Eat right and exercise…blah blah blah.Though we hate to hear it; it’s true that eating right and exercisingis beneficial to living our best life. Most people know already whatis needed to live a healthier lifestyle; it just requires taking the stepsto do it. When you look good you feel good so get moving and eatright!4.) Get an annual medical and dental check-up.With the busy pace of everyday life, staying on top of your healthsometimes falls short. This is no excuse! Getting annual medicaland dental check-ups is essential. This is the primary way to livingyour best life. There could be a myriad of health issues happen-ing that you are not aware of. In addition, having poor medical anddental health can impact your job and relationships. Having poorhealth can prevent you from getting that dream job, or getting lowcost life and medical insurance. I do not have to tell you the ridiculeone faces when they have poor dental health. As the saying goesyour health is your wealth!5.) Seek help from a professional.Seeking the help of an expert fashion stylist or image consultantis a less stressful way to help achieve your personal image goals. This does not require a huge investment. Do a Google search or aska friend for recommendations for a good fashion stylist or imageconsultant in your area.Making changes in one’s life can be very stressful and daunting asmost people dislikes change. However, changing or improving yourimage is a good change. Making a drastic change isn’t warrant.Start small!
