Dear Conference Attendees,On behalf of the Ismaili Council for Canada and the Economic Planning Board, we would like to takethis opportunity to welcome you to the fourth annual Alliance Conference in beautiful Vancouver,British Columbia. We are so pleased that you were able to take the time to join us this weekend toconnect with your peers and lend your knowledge to a growing movement. The strength and continuation of this conference serves as a testament to the need and indeed thedesire to form and maintain strong alliances. At a time where the world is undergoing rapid change inhow and where we do business, it is on every individual to not only build their skills, but draw upon thestrengths of their peers within and across sectors and to help one another navigate new landscapesand buffer against challenges. In the short time that alliances have been formally established, individuals have already seen lastingand positive impacts and tangible results. These same individuals have put their weight behind theformation and fostering of alliances, through events like these. Though we have only begun to explorethe power and potential of alliances, we are well on our way to making them a powerful catalyst forgrowth and stability. This weekend is an excellent time to reflect on Prince Amyn’s message on alliances, “In our world, where both the workings and effects of globalization are evolving and are as yet neither fully evidentnor fully understood, it is important, I believe, that Ismaili professionals and businesses around theworld review how best they can work together, how our traditions of collaboration can be given newlife and new, original, productive forms of expression.”We are confident that this extraordinary weekend will produce new ideas, new relationships and newalliances that will make our business owners and professionals stronger, more united and enhancetheir resilience- this in turn will serve as a source of strength for the entire community.Very Best Regards, Ali Shivji National Alliance LeadSamir Manji Chair ACC 2015Chairman, Economic PlanningBoard for Canada 3
