The Maritime Standard Excellence AwardAwarded to Dr. Ali Obaid Al-Yabhouni The Maritime Standard Excellence Award is being presented to Dr. Ali Obaid Al-Yab- houni, Chief Executive Officer of ADNATCO & NGSCO. He has worked in the ADNOC Group of Companies since 1992 in a wide range of senior positions and took on his current role in January 2009 guiding the companies to significant growth and devel- opment. The Maritime Standard Personality of the YearAwarded to Sheikh Talal Al Khaled Al Ahmed Al Sabah Sheikh Talal Al The  Maritime Standard Personality of the Year for 2015, awarded for a significantKhaled Al Sabah contribution to the shipping and ports sector, is Sheikh Talal Al Khaled Al Ahmed Al Sabah,  who has been  Chief Executive Officer of the Kuwait Oil Tanker Company CEO (KOTC) since July 2013. In that time he has implemented some radical changes in the business strategy of KOTC and has quickly taken steps to  stabilise the business.  Kuwait Oil Tanker Sheikh Talal has had an impressive career joining the Kuwait Oil Company in 1986 at the middle management level before gradually working his way up to the position of Company S.A.K. Managing Director of  Kuwait Petroleum Corporation in 2004, serving as a board member from 2004-2007.  He was the Chairman of the Oil Sector Services Company (OSSCO) from 2004 until 2007, and currently also serves as a Director of the UK P&I Club. The Maritime Standard Woman in Shipping AwardAwarded to Jasamin Fichte Jasamin FichteThe Maritime Standard Woman in Shipping Award, made to someone who has made an exceptional contribution inher field, is this year presented to Jasmine Fichte, who founded Fichte & Co in 2005 in Dubai.Since then the company has become one of the leading specialist maritime law firms in the UAE with a wide clientbase and a strong track record of success on behalf of these clients.Jasamin has also worked with the UAE Federal and Dubai government over the past 10 years on ways of improvingthe maritime infrastructure. These efforts have culminated in her being appointed by H.E. The Maritime Standard Lifetime Achievement AwardAwarded to Zahid Rahman Zahid RahmanZahid Rahman, Vice President, Business Development (Marine) at Lloyd’s Register (LR) for the Middle East, Africaand Pakistan has enjoyed a long and successful career with LR, since joining them in 1990 as a marine surveyor.He has played a key role in increasing LR’s share of the regional marine market, which has grown significantlysince he assumed the Business Development role in 2006.In over 25 years in the industry, Zahid has had many notable achievements, including leading the classification ofthe first Chinese built ship to be independently classed by LR in 1993, and inspiring and developing the Departmentof Marine Engineering at the NED University of Engineering and Technology, the first of its kind in Pakistan, wherehe also had the honor of delivering the commencement address to its first graduating class.In view of his exemplary service to the industry, Zahid was appointed as vice president of the Institute of MarineEngineering, Science and Technology in the UK, an honourary role that provides him the opportunity to contributeto the education and development of marine professionals worldwide.While now retiring as a Vice President of LR, Zahid will continue to serve IMarEST, work as an advisor to LR and thebroader marine industry, as well as support various educational initiatives. The Maritime Standard Hall of Fame AwardAwarded to Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem Sultan Ahmed bin SulayemHis Excellency Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem is being inducted into the TMS Hall of Fame at the 2015 awards.His Excellency has been a key figure guiding the direction of the ports and free zone sectors in the region for morethan two decades. His expertise and visionary leadership has spearheaded the rapid expansion of Dubai’s infra-structure contributing tremendously to the UAE’s economic growth and development.His Excellency Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem has been responsible for leading DP World’s expansion internationally,including the purchase of the P&O group for US$6.8 billion in March 2006, which made it one of the largest globalport operators in the world. He has also overseen the rapid development of the Jebel Ali Free Zone as well as theestablishment of Nakheel, a real estate and tourism property development firm that has created many iconic Dubaiprojects including The Palm, among his many business achievements.
