Celebrating the Triumph of Good Over Evil The greatness of a culture can be found in its festivals. Students of Grade 7 Jupiter presented a special assembly on 4th October encompassing speeches, skit, dance and songs associated with the festival of Diwali. To preserve the festive spirit, teachers also joined the students’ Garba dance. Using art as a medium, Grades 1 & 2 students recreated mythological characters to illustrate the triumph of good over evil.
Prophet Mohammad’s Birthday Celebration “The best among you is the one who doesn't harm others with his tongue and hands.” - Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) The National and Islamic Activities Committee of BIS held a special assembly on 6th October, 2022 to commemorate the glorious Prophet's birthday. In praise of the Prophet (PBUH), songs were sung, a skit was performed by the group to highlight the life and teachings of Allah's Messenger (PBUH). Students also enjoyed participating in the quiz on Prophet Mohammed and displaying their art work. This fun-filled celebration was held in their traditional attire. As part of the celebration, students posted artistic work and greetings on bulletin boards. Students from Grade 4 Maple also conducted a special assembly to mark the occasion. With the help of a skit, the students illustrated the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
English Poetry Recitation Competition “Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words.” -Edgar Allan Poe Poem recitation is a mode of expression, a medium to reflect the latent talents of young ones. BIS students of Grade 1 and 2 showed off their recitation skills in the poetry recitation competition finals held on 13th October, 2022. They enjoyed the perfection of expression, thoughts, emotions, rhythm and music of words.
World Students’ Day Celebration at BIS “Dream, dream, dream. Dreams transform into thoughts and thoughts result in action.” - Dr A P J Abdul Kalam 15th October is celebrated as World Students‘ Day, which commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, who was a celebrated Aeronautical Scientist and former President of India. To appreciate and recognize the contributions of the great leader, senior grade students wrote and displayed motivational quotes of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam on education, students and life. They also put forth their ideas on what makes an ideal student.
A Special Assembly to Raise Awareness On Breast Cancer “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” – Helen Keller We at BIS believe all young people should have the tools and knowledge to be proactive about their own health. This was reflected in the theme of ‘A Sky of Roses’ which was the class assembly presented by Grade 11 students. As part of the assembly, The Pink Army performed a flash mob, a captivating song named 'Warrior', awareness speeches, an informative video presentation and an interactive poem written by Arnab Sengupta titled ‘Petals’.
Confidence V/s Overconfidence “Confidence is good, but overconfidence always sinks the ship.” - Oscar Wilde An educational live talk show entitled \"Children's Hour\" (Episode 5) was conducted by BMC Global Live in collaboration with Al Hilal Hospital and Medical Centers on 18th October, 2022. There were three student panelists from BIS: Vandan Pinkesh Nagar, Shaun Prabhu, and Shubh Dimri. Members of the Senior Panel were Dr. Amit Panjwani (Parent Representative), Dr. Sheju Thomas (Pediatrician, Al Hilal) Mrs. Merlene Christina (Teacher, Bahrain Indian School) and Mrs. Jayasri (Teacher, Al Wissam School). Participants discussed methods for identifying whether they are acting confidently or overconfidently during the discussion. The interactive session was filled with insightful questions and observations.
Step Up, Step Forward, Stop Bullying! “Be kind for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” – Plato The Anti Bullying workshop an activity designed for BIS students by Ms. Fatema Zaid, the school counsellor commenced with a clapping session, on 20th October 2022 to infuse self-esteem. Students and teachers performed skits, mime, and songs to emphasize respect over bullying. Ms. Fatema advised the students to speak up and demand respect when they experience disrespect from others. To reiterate the message, different grades were given colouring pages, word searches and questionnaires. During the week-long campaign, an exhibition highlighted the cause. The students gained an understanding of the dangers of bullying through slogans, mimes, and presentations, and made progress towards preventing violence in all its forms.
Think Right - Think Pink “Your struggles develop your strength. When you go through hardship and decide not to surrender, that is strength.” -Arnold Schwarzenegger. 'Think Pink Week' was observed at BIS from 16th October, 2022 till 20th October, 2022, during which students of all grades participated in numerous activities, creating awareness about breast cancer and raising funds for the Bahrain Breast Cancer Society. Enthralling posters propagated the cause on bulletin boards throughout the school. In addition to making pink bows, crafting Think Pink‘ T-shirts, created the magic touch. Junior students were also engaged in PowerPoint presentations and quizzes to spread awareness. The Science Department also held a workshop on breast cancer symptoms, treatment, and prevention. Through the sale of cupcakes and cards, a good amount was raised towards the cause. October 20th 2022, Thursday was designated as 'Think Pink Day'. As a part of the campaign, students wore pink to stand in solidarity for the cause of the pink ribbon. The students played a variety of games. As a result of the formation of the 'human chain' with students and staff, the BIS fraternity demonstrated its solidarity with the cause. The next segue of the campaign was a basketball match between teachers and students, which was a great hit.
BIS Outshines Inter-Bhavans Hindi Elocution Competition “It is nice to have valid competition; it pushes you to do better.” - Gianni Versace Students from BIS excelled at the Inter-Bhavans Hindi elocution held by Bhavans, Abu Dhabi on 22nd October, 2022 for the students of Bhavans Schools in the Middle East. A flawless conduct of speech enabled Mahika Chawla (Grade 7) to secure the first position and Parina Dholakia (Grade 7) to secure the second position. Congratulations to our proud winners!
BIS Students Qualifies the Preliminary Round of BISQ 2022-23 BIS conducted the 'Bhavan's International School Quiz-BISQ' on 22nd October 2022. Students from various CBSE schools of Bahrain, Kuwait and The UAE participated for the preliminary round which was hosted by WISE Indian Academy- Ajman. Seventy nine teams from the UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait participated in the preliminary round. Among the ten teams which took part from Bahrain, The New Indian School and Bahrain Indian School qualified for the grand finale and will be competing for the cash price of $1000, $750, $500 for the first second third prizes respectively. We wish all the best to the proud winners of the preliminary round!
Diwali Celebration “The important thing is to teach a child that good can always triumph over evil.” – Walt Disney BIS celebrated Diwali on 23rd October, 2022.The students of Grade 10 presented a special assembly on Diwali with fervor and ardor. The message of eco-friendly Diwali was well emphasized through a skit, speech, and poem. The song and dance of students added a sense of glee to the festivities. The students of the other Grades showcased the spirit of the festival of lights by creating colourful diyas, Diwali cards & rangolis,and decorated the campus.
Evacuation Preparedness Workshop “Prevention is indeed better than cure.”- Anonymous Practicing fire safety and evacuation is one of our school’s top priorities. On 25th October, 2022 BIS organized an ‘Evacuation Preparedness Workshop’ for its staff. The school had a successful fire drill, co-ordinated with the Directorate of Civil Defense, Ministry of Interior, who conducted a workshop where they gave everyone instructions on how to evacuate in an emergency.After the workshop, the school’s emergency alarm rang, prompting all the building occupants to evacuate and be stationed in the evacuation area. After all, practice makes perfect!
Charity Drive “Where there is charity and wisdom, there is neither fear nor ignorance.” –Francis of Assisi We at BIS focus on enhancing the compassionate traits among students by organizing various charity-related programmes. In keeping with this tradition, on 15th October 2022, our students sold cupcakes and cards during ‘Think Pink Week’ , which raised an amount BD 270/- for the Breast Cancer Society. The school management presented the cheque of BD 350/- which was received by Ms.Fatima Ghuloom Abedy on behalf of Bahrain Breast Cancer Society.
Fostering a Daily Habit of Using Math “Without mathematics, there’s nothing you can do. Everything around you is mathematics. Everything around you is numbers”. — Shakuntala Devi Without a doubt, mathematics is ubiquitous, but not all of them are evident and not all people perceive them in the same way. Keeping this in mind, BIS' Mathematics Department organized an inter-house ‘Math Forum’ competition on the applications of mathematics on 27th October 2022. The students presented their research on various applications of mathematics with mathematical acumen and skill, which was astounding.
Workshop for Empowering Parents children’s memories tomorrow, you have to be in their lives today.” – Barbara Johnson Dr. Feba Percy Paul, clinical Psychologist, presented an enlightening workshop to the parents of BIS students from grade 7 to 10 entitled \"Helping Your Child to Cope with Academic and Emotional Stress\" on 29th October, 2022. The workshop began with a presentation on 'Thriving to Survive' designed to introduce participants to Positive Parenting in the 21st century. In her presentation, she shared valuable information that will help parents create a beautiful bond with their children.
Laurels at NMMUN \"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.“ -John Quincy Adams Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an extra-curricular activity in which students typically role-play delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. On 28th and 29th October, 2022, BIS student delegates took part in the New Millennium Model United Nations (NMMUN). Different nations were represented by our students in the simulation of United Nations committees. The Best Speaker award was given to Adesh.D.Shaiju, a Grade 10 student who represented Russia in the Security Council, and an Honourable Mention was given to Anushka Tayde, a Grade 9 student representing Mexico UNEP. .
Special Assembly National Unity Day “Faith is of no avail in absence of strength. Faith and strength, both are essential to accomplish any great work.” – Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel A special assembly was convened on 31st October, 2022 to pay tribute to the Iron man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 147th birth anniversary by the students of Grade 4 Olive. In recognition of Iron Man's efforts, the student delivered a speech, followed by a patriotic dance and song. The students also made placards to spread the message of preserving the unity, integrity and security of the nation.

From the Editor’s Desk Dear Readers and Future World Leaders, We hope you enjoyed reading the October Issue of ‘Bhavanasmita’, the newsletter of BIS. It must be an enthralling experience to read about the events and achievements of the school, especially when you read about your own achievements in the same. You have seen many events unfold in the pink month of October, from the curiosities of the young Kindergartners to the innovations of the older children. It is a long road for all human beings ahead, and so it is a long road for BIS and its developments too. This month was simply a milestone in that long highway. We dedicate this newsletter to the curious students, hardworking teachers and enthusiastic parents We would like to end this edition of The Editor’s Pen, with gratitude. Gratitude is something that is rare in this world. Therefore, we would like to grow this garden of gratitude by sowing this grateful seed.
