ELOCUTION COMPETITION AT BIS! ‘The art of communication is the language of leadership’. – James Hummes The art of public speaking is the art of giving power to words – to influence, inspire and transform lives as it was done at the Elocution Competition which was held on 2nd June, 2022 for Grades 6 to 8. Participant spoke on various topics such as ‘Everyone is a winner’ ‘Humanity is the best religion’ ‘Money makes the world go round’ “Media controls our thought process’ ‘Social Media platforms are killing the essence of socialization’ etc. The participants took the stage with an aplomb. Their performance reflected understanding of the topics given to them.Mr. Saji Jacob, Principal, encouraged the students and reminded them that everyone is a winner, and all of them should strive to improve their strengths.



BIS STUDENTS SWEEPS AWARDS AT INTER – BHAVANS HINDI POETICA ‘Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words.’ - Edgar Allan Poe Poetry is music to ears and food for the soul. This year's Inter-School Bhavans Hindi Poetica competition was hosted by Bhavans, Kuwait on 3rd June 2022. The competition was attended by students from all Bhavans schools in the Middle East. The students presented poems based on different themes displaying their love for the motherland and its heritage. It gives us great pleasure to share that Esha Ashik of Grade IV has won first place in Category 2 on the theme, ‘Nature’. Mysha Fathima of Grade V won the second prize in Category 3 on the theme 'Patriotism'. 'Humour' was the theme for category 4, Pritha Singh of Grade VIII was awarded the third place. It was indeed a great moment when the results were announced. The school Directors Mr. Himanshu Verma and Ms. Ritu Verma applauded the students for their noteworthy attainment. Principal Mr. Saji Jacob congratulated the students on their outstanding performances.



BIS STANDS FOR WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY Let’s nurture the nature so that we can have a better future. There isn’t a child who is not wonderstruck by nature, even from a very early age. In celebration of our responsibilities to this beautiful planet, BIS organized a variety of activities on ‘World Environment Day’ which falls on 5th June, 2022. The motive was to inculcate students with values of conservation, respecting nature, being mindful of disposing the waste, and encouraging them to reduce, reuse and recycle. The students from Grades I to XII showcased their artistic abilities through a variety of activities. Grade I and II students recited mind blowing poems, Grade III to V participated in making colourful pen stands, flower vases, fruit baskets, candle stands, snack bowls and many more useful items by using discarded items. They also presented a special assembly based on the theme ‘Saving the environment’ that motivated all to keep the planet beautiful. As part of a project on water harvesting and innovative methods to save the planet, students in GradesVItoVIII presented powerpoint presentations. Research activities were carried out by students from Grades IX to XII on traditional methods of saving the environment. At the end of the day,the students agreed that everyone was responsible for saving the environment. As part of these activities, students were encouraged to think about the impact their daily lives have on the environment and to evaluate the steps they can take to be more environmentally conscious.











WORLD FOOD SAFETY DAY THEME – ‘SAFER FOOD, BETTER HEALTH’ ‘Today is you day to start fresh, to eat right, to train hard, to live healthy and to be proud.’ – Bonnie Pfiester An old saying goes, “You are what you eat.” Mindful eating and making healthy choices are the most important aspects that we strive to encourage among our students. After practicing mindfulness, breathing deeply and cultivating cheerfulness, the Grade VI Tagore students got together to spread the word by presenting an assembly on 07th June, 2022 - World Food Safety Day, based on the theme 'Safer Food, Better Health.' The theme- ‘Safer Food, Better Health’ was presented through a skit which depicted how healthy food habits and lifestyle changes can bring about a positive change in our lives. The rendition of a joyful song highlighted the importance of a healthy diet and good eating habits. The Principal urged students to eat safe food and to stay healthy.

8th INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY CELEBRATION AT BIS ‘Yoga is the journey of the self, to the self through the self.’ - The Bhagavad Gita The 8th International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness around the world, regarding the benefits of practising the art. In collaboration with the Indian Embassy in Bahrain, Bhavans Bahrain Indian School organized a yoga training session for its students on 8th June, 2022. As part of the 8th International Yoga Day celebration, yoga experts from Bahrain India Culture and Arts Services, Art of Living and Bahrain Chartered Accountants Association joined hands. Our school enjoyed the benefits of a workshop led by Mr. Rudresh Kumar Singh. His team of instructors included Ms. Anu Manoj, Ms. Sreejyothi, Dr Bhramara, and Mr. Sajeev. Each instructor taught students simple yoga poses and meditation techniques to keep themselves fit and focused. He also highlighted that yoga increases strength and flexibility as well as concentration, memory power, and skill in sports. The BIS Management concluded the event by congratulating the young Yoga Gurus for their mesmerising yoga asanas and remarked that yoga is the best way to keep oneself physically and psychologically fit in the present challenging times.



EVERY CHILD HAS A STORY TO TELL! “Tell me the facts and I’ll learn. Tell me the truth and I’ll believe. But tell me a story and it will live in my heart forever.” - Native American proverb The extent to which we are influenced by moral stories can't be quantified. Keeping this in mind, BIS conducted Story Telling Competition for Grade I and II on 9th June, 2022. These young story tellers used a variety of props to make their stories interesting and expressive. The content and the presentation skills of our little shining stars were outstanding. Mr. Saji Jacob, the school's principal, praised the students for their excellent performance and encouraged them to continue developing their public speaking skills.



MONOLOGUES FOR ACTORS! ‘Monologue is the most honest way to represent human beings’ - George Saunders A language is a way of navigating the world, not just a subject. Students of Grades IX to XII participated in a Monologue Competition which was on 9th June, 2022 wherein they presented their acting skills, confidence, vocabulary and communication skills. While witnessing their performances, the audience was amazed at the confidence levels, the variety of personalities, and presentation skills of the performers. Monologues from Shakespearean tragedies ruled the stage. It was evident that this competition, more than winning or losing, was truly a celebration of the innate talent of young students. The Principal, Mr. Saji Jacob praised the students for their flawless performance and explained how monologues are an important means of communicating emotions.

THE ART OF POETRY “Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, but poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.” - Leonardo Da Vinci The students dramatised and painted the essence of the poems in an English Poetica Recitation Competition organised on 9th June, 2022 for Grades III, IV, VII and VIII. The young poets enthralled the audience with their articulation and memory skills while reciting the poems. Their thoughts and feelings were indeed bolstered by their skills. The purpose of the competition was to instill a love for poetry and to develop recitation skills among students. The Principal, Mr.Saji Jacob appreciated and applauded the performances of the participants and encouraged them to participate in such competitions.





MY HERO, MY GUIDE, MY FRIEND… MY DAD! ‘My father didn’t tell me how to live. He lived and let me watch him do it.’ – Clarence Budington Kelland A dad is someone who holds you when you cry, scolds you when you break the rules, shines with pride when you succeed, and has faith in you even when you fail. On 19th June, 2022, BIS celebrated this special bond by having Grade 2 Cauvery students put up a beautiful assembly. The little ones gleefully sang a song dedicating it to the fathers. They looked utterly endearing as they jiggled and wiggled to the music. A father's patience was portrayed through narration at the assembly. The Principal, Mr. Saji Jacob, lauded the students and reminded them that one day alone is not enough for showing their love and respect for their dads.



CHESS CHAMPION FROM BIS “Play is the only way the highest intelligence of humankind can unfold.” -Joseph Chilton Pearce BIS is once again basking in the glory of the mind-boggling performances exhibited by Pranav Bobby Sekhar of Grade IX who has bagged the Championship Trophy at Andalus Wiz Kids Fide Rated Rapid Chess tournament. Furthermore, Atharva Balvalli of Grade IX, Ishaan Jinesh of Grade IX secured sixth and tenth position in category awards. Suyash Sunil Bayalan and Sujay Sunil Bayalan of Grade V bagged second position and eighth position in 11 years and under category. The school management and the principal have applauded the students for their meritorious performances.

ZOYA FATIMA BAGS THIRD POSITION AT INTER- BHAVANS QURAN RECITATION COMPETITION Reading and memorizing Quran is a great milestone. We are brimming with pride in stating that Zoya Fathima has brought laurels to the school by winning the Third Position at Inter-Bhavans Quran Recitation Competition. With Almighty’s grace, once again we have stepped ahead to the pedestal of excellence. The school management and the principal have applauded the student for the praiseworthy performance at a huge platform.

ATHARVA ADITYA BALLAVALI BRINGS LAURELS TO BIS BIS is overtly ecstatic to share the commendable performance presented forth by Atharva Aditya Balvalli at Bahrain International Rapid Chess Championship 2022. He was awarded as the ‘Best Player’ in under 16 category and he secured eighth position among 125 participants. He bagged a Gold medal and BD 30 cash prize too. BIS Directors Mr. Himanshu Verma and Ms. Ritu Verma extended hearty congratulations to Atharva Aditya Balavalli for his outstanding performance. Principal Mr. Saji Jacob applauded Atharva on his success.

GRADE V LEO PRESENTS AN ASSEMBLY IN RECOGNITION OF BIO- DIVERSITY The diversity of the phenomena of nature is so great, and the treasures hidden in the heavens so rich, precisely in order that the human mind shall never be lacking in fresh nourishment. Every species is a masterpiece! Bio diversity is the cornerstone of ecosystem services and our most treasured wealth. Students of Grade V Leo held a special assembly to mark the International Day for Biological Diversity, a day observed for creating awareness about biodiversity issues engulfing the world today. The students of Grade V Leo presented before the audience how humanity has stripped the earth of its resources and forests destroying whole ecosystems which has lead to effects like flash floods, global warming and extinction of many animal and plant species. A song and a Hindi poem recitation on the theme enriched the assembly and conveyed the message effectively. The Principal, Mr. Saji Jacob appreciated the students and reminded everyone not to waste the natural resources.

ENTHUSIASTIC PARTICIPATION WITNESSED AT BIS MODEL UNITED NATIONS To combat our limitations, we need to express, discuss and debate. BIS proudly hosted an annual Model United Nations where multitude of delegates gathered to participate in BISMUN. The delegates exhibited their oratory skills effectively and also the glimpses of the future leaders enthralled the audiences. BISMUN, the Model United Nations of Bahrain Indian held a highly productive session on 28th May, 2022. The topic debated at the General Assembly was the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Students from Grades VIII to XII participated representing various countries. The committee was chaired by the students of Grade XII. Each delegate presented his/her cause vehemently and debated on various sub topics like the economic impact of the invasion and various humanitarian crisis like refugee crisis, food crisis, inflation and price hike in petroleum. Finally, the draft resolution was put to vote. The school Director, Mr.Himanshu Verma addressed the delegates and appreciated the efforts and enthusiasm of students that had been showcased throughout the session. As a token of recognition and appreciation, the Best speakers, Best delegate, and outstanding contribution awards were announced by Mr.Himanshu Verma.



WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATED BY GRADE IV CEDAR interest; “the environment is where we all meet; where we all have a mutual it is the one thing all of us share.” -lady bird johnson A society that is well aware is the best weapon against climate change. As humans we have the responsibility to conserve and keep the environment hygienic to ensure the well being of all species on this planet. To address the problems of the earth and the environment, students of Grade IV presented a special assembly. Students provided valuable tips on keeping the environment clean, saving natural resources and leading a greener life style. Through a song and a dance, they emphasized that we need to save the earth. The Principal Mr.Saji Jacob appreciated the students and informed them of the callousness of human beings which results in the destruction of the precious gift of God. He urged the students not to use polythene bags and make the BIS campus an environment friendly zone.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE DAY CELEBRATED AT BIS ‘Language is the light of the mind.’ – John Stuart Mill English language not only adds a touch of convenience to communication in general but has been a gateway to art in the form of literature. One special day dedicated towards the language makes it even more special that is what exactly the students of Grade VI Wordsworth did by presenting a captivating assembly on 27th June, 2022 that was based on enumerating the Importance of English Language. The highlight of the assembly was an English song. The students came up with book reviews, a speech on importance of reading, and a recitation of poetry. Mr.Saji Jacob expressed appreciation to the students and encouraged them to read books and news daily during their vacation.

“FEAST OF SACRIFICE” - EID UL ADHA CELEBRATION AT BIS ‘Sacrifice is a part of life. It’s supposed to be. It’s not something to regret. It’s something to aspire to.’ – Mitch Albom Eid ul Adha isn’t just about celebration; also it has a very important religious meaning. It means ‘Feast of Sacrifice’. On the eve of Eid ul Adha (23rd June, 2022), a special program was presented by the Islamic students of BIS. During the Hajj rituals, students sang melodious songs to explain the rituals. The students were introduced to the virtues of the Islamic festival Eid Al-Adha and the festival's key elements. The students were dressed in their best Hajj attire. To give a detailed knowledge a short film was shown to the students that explained the significance of celebrating the holy month. A quiz was also conducted, with prizes awarded to the winning students. Director Mr. Himanshu Verma and Ms. Ritu Verma encouraged the students to put their learning into practice. During the presentation of this celebration, Mr. Saji Jacob appreciated students and teachers for their hard work in highlighting the essence of the festivity.



INTER HOUSE COMPETITION TABLE TENNIS COMPETITION HELD AT BIS “the harder the battle, the sweeter the victory\" – les brown Table Tennis Inter-house Competition was held at BIS on 8th June 2022 for the students of Grades III to XI. The competition was conducted under the guidance of school Physical Education teacher Ms. Farhat. All children played brilliantly, showing excellent determination and sportsmanship throughout the competition. There were approximately 189 students who participated in this competition.

PEER PRESSURE – TALK SHOW ‘You can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.’ – R.J. Palacio Peer pressure can cause students to do or say things they wouldn’t normally do or say. It isn’t always a bad thing: pressure from peers to study harder or to stand up to bullying can have positive results. But on the flip slide, peer pressure can leave a negative impact on a student’s self-confidence and may isolate them from their family and friends. Promoting a culture of diversity and inclusivity, and encouraging open discussions with students and parents can help them out. This is what Children's Hour was all about. On 28th June 2022 Dr. Preet Kamal Bhatnagar, the Academic Coordinator at BIS, was invited as a special guest to speak on the topic 'Peer Pressure'. Some of the top tips she recommended were to include parents in discussions, to provide them with practice in communicating effectively to manage negative peer pressure, to be self-compassionate and helpful to others, as well as practical ways to deal with toxic friends. The panelists stressed stating “Consider yourself a leader, and know that you have the potential to make a difference.” This was indeed a great show where all the questions related to the issue were answered.

BIS STUDENTS STAGE NUKKAD NATAK! ‘Act the part and you will become the part.’ – William James To spread awareness and sensitize students regarding various issues, the students from the four houses (Gladiators, Vikings, Warriors, and Spartans) participated in Nukkad Natak. The competition was held on 29th June 2022. Students performed various Hindi street plays to highlight the social issues. Students from Spartans House spoke about old age homes. Gladiators presented on Online Education, while Vikings focused on social media's impact. In addition, Warriors house students discussed the relationship between parents & students in today's society. The students were dressed up as per their theme. The students got actively involved in it and showed great enthusiasm and creativity to convey their message to the audience. Although it seemed a tough task, our students performed it beautifully and with grace. This unique exposure enlightened them on aspects of self-reliance and teamwork. The school management praised the students for presenting such enchanting performances.





General Knowledge Quiz at BIS ‘Knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practice.’ – Anton Chekhov To increase one’s knowledge base, there is no other alternative but to learn continuously. If you hone your mind regularly, there is much more good news for you. To help achieve this among our students General Knowledge Quiz for students of grades 1&2 ,was held at BIS on 23rd June 2022. Various thought- provoking questions based on general science, signs and symbols, sports, current affairs, states, and their capitals were asked. This was conducted so that students gain knowledge apart from textbook knowledge. The zeal among the students was unbelievable.The school management encouraged the students to be updated by reading books, and newspapers and also by watching the NEWS.



POETRY OUT LOUD! ‘Poetry is simply the most beautiful, impressive, and widely effective mode of saying things.’ - Matthew Arnold Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words. Poetry recitation is an invaluable tool for children to develop verbal skills and boost their self-esteem. In light of this, an English Poetica Competition was organized on 20th June, 2022 for Grades V and VI. A wide range of talented students displayed their skills. During her remarks, Academic Coordinator Dr. Preet Kamal Bhatnagar congratulated the participants and announced the results. The Principal, Mr. Saji Jacob, expressed his wishes and encouraged students to take an active interest in poems.

TOP YOGA POSES TO IMPROVE STUDENT’S ACADEMIC PERFORMANCES! ‘The soul is here for its own joy.’ - Rumi Studies are never over for students. It is an endless process. Keeping this in mind, BIS students from various grades participated in the Global Yoga Ring on 21st June, 2022. As practicing yoga will not only help in sharpening their brain but it will also enhance their memory, concentration and will help them score well in the exams. Live telecasts of yoga sessions from around the world were telecasted on Doordarshan as part of the Global Yoga Ring. The program was sponsored by the Embassy of India in Bahrain. Ms. May Awadh, who is a well-known yoga instructor, led the class. She is a spiritual and passionate trainer. Under her guidance, students practiced yoga poses, stretching exercises, and breathing exercises. During the closing remarks, Directors Mr. HimanshuVerma and Mrs. RituVerma encouraged the students to practice yoga regularly in order to stay fit and improve concentration. Mr. Saji Jacob expressed his deep appreciation to Ms. Awadh for the time she sacrificed from her busy schedule in order to teach BIS students.



LET’S READ! “A book is a gift you can open again and again.” — Garrison Keillor Reading - It's when kids can read and enjoy the books they want, just for the pleasure of reading and with no questions asked! To enhance the importance of reading among students, BIS held a Reading Week from 26th June, 2022 to 29th June,2022 for the students of Grades I and II. Reading books is a vital for language learners, as they gain exposure to words used in context, which will ameliorate their own speaking and writing fluency. It was evident that the students were enthusiastic about story book characters and book marks during their active participation in activities like book discussions and making book marks.
