HANDS OFF GOLIGHTLY CARAVAN PARK!Thanks to all community members, associations, clubs, businesses and individualsfor your years of generous support of Golightly Caravan Park remaining a caravanpark. Now Council wants to sell some of the land and kick all caravans out! HAVE YOUR SAY!Object to the masterplan and send your views to Council by 25 May 2018.Written submissions can be returned via email to: [email protected],by post to Lenny Jenner, Chief Executive Officer, Borough of Queenscliffe, PO Box93, Queenscliffe, Victoria 3225, or dropped in to Council offices at 50 LearmonthStreet, Queenscliffe. SOME OF THE FACTS: Golightly Caravan Park injects hundreds and thousands of dollars (outside of lease fees) into the community each and every year The Park is one of the highest direct income streams to Council (outside of rates) Under the current proposal, Council will be worse off financially exposing the Borough and its residents to further financial insecurity. Through lease payments, caravan sites provide a consistent source of revenue for the council which can be more easily budgeted for compared to the variable nature of temporary cabin users. A mixture of on-site, casuals and cabins is the best overall solution. A cabin-only plan will compete with local tourism operators – not good for business. Caravan residents engage in the local community in a variety of areas ranging from nippers to sporting clubs and in doing so contributing to the local economy and diversity within the community. The masterplan delivers less caravan sites across the Borough – not good for Tourism The masterplan negatively impacts the environment and local vegetation. The Golightly Caravan Park land was gifted to Council in 1962 on the basis it would be used for Caravan Park and recreation purposes. Councillors ruled out selling Golightly Caravan Park land – they are going back on their word. Golightly Caravan Park and its residents are an integral part of the community. More funding needed to solve ulcer mystery Researchers are calling for an “urgent scientific response” to help solve the mystery condition, Bairnsdale Ulcer. Writing in the Medical Journal of Australia, infectious diseases specialist Daniel O’Brien said Victoria was experiencing an explosion in case numbers, with as many as 2,000 cases reported each year. “As a community, we are facing a rapidly worsening epidemic of a severe disease without knowing how to prevent it,” the report says. “We therefore need an urgent response based on robust scientific knowledge acquired by a thorough and exhaustive examination of the environment, local fauna, human behaviour and characteristics, and the interactions between them. Numbers on the Mornington Peninsula and further along the Bellarine have skyrocketed however cases in Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale – a hot spot for the disease in recent years – are declining, Dr O’Brien said. “It is still around the Bellarine but not at the same levels as we used to see. This is especially true of Point Lonsdale. For example, I only saw two patients from Point Lonsdale last year and three from Queenscliff - a far cry from the peak of 2011 when I saw 16 from Point Lonsdale and eight from Queenscliffe, plus more patients seen in Melbourne. Mosquitoes and possums have long been suspected of playing a role in the spread the disfiguring flesh-eating condition. “There are critical information gaps around BU and this is where we urgently need research dollars to answer them to enable public health interventions to control the epidemic to be developed,” Dr O’Brien said.Do you need a hand managing your holiday home?Do you have your property listed with one or several accommodation sites but find youare getting bogged down in dealing with enquiries, managing calendars, bookings, meet & greet, cleaning, etc? We may be able to make your life easier. We are proud ofour partnerships with the big guns - airbnb, booking.com, stayz & homeaway.
