Executive Summary –July, 2014The main activities performed during the reporting month are summarizedbelow:Project Completion Report (PC-IV) of \"National Environmental RadioactivitySurveillance Program \" has been prepared and submitted to C.A for approval.PC-1 form for \"Construction of PNRA Regional Offices and Labs at Islamabad(Phase-I)\" is completed and submitted to C.A for approval. Two Reportsentitled \" Measurement of Indoor Radon Level in dwelling of Islamabad region\"and Public Awareness Program of NERSP have been prepared and submittedfor approval. Two officers attended “Basic Professional Training Course 14thLevel-1”. Prepared radioactivity analysis report for four (04) air filter papersamples of K-1 and one (01) service sample of RNSD-III. Soil and water Sampleswere collected from C3/C4 for establishment of pre-operational data. 4

1. COLLECTION OF SAMPLESPerformed collection of air samples using low volume filter paper on weekly basis forgamma analysis.Five (05) Water Samples were collected from C3/C4 for establishment of pre-operational data.Forty seven (47) Soil Samples were collected from C3/C4 for establishment of pre-operational data. 2. SAMPLE PROCESSINGProcessing of following samples has been completed: i. Eight (08) soil samples and five (05) water samples of C3 & C4 for gamma spectrometric analysis. ii. One (01) service sample received from RNSD-III for gamma analysis.. iii. Six (06) KINPOE soil samples for Gamma analysis. iv. Three (03) fish samples collected around KNPC site for Sr-90 analysis. v. Six (06) soil samples collected around KNPC site for Sr-90 analysis.3. ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES BY GAMMA SPECTROMETRY SYSTEM (GSS) \\\3.1 AT KARACHI LAB: Counting and analysis of background sample on GSS for the current month. Quality Control test and energy calibration of GSS System was performed during the current month. Analysis of one (01) service sample received from R-III Analysis of 02 filter paper samples of KANUPP K-13.2 AT CHASHMA LAB: Gamma spectrometric analysis of following samples has been completed: i. Eleven (11) Soil Samples from OGDCL Sites. ii. Four (04) Rice Sample received from R-I.5

4. ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES BY LIQUID SCINTILLATION ANALYZER (LSA) Performance of SNC of LSA for reported month. Counting of Sr-90 standard on LSA. Counting of Six (06) water samples collected from KNPC site on LSA for tritium analysis. 5. NATUALLY OCCURING RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS (NORM) Guidance document on NORM management has been prepared and submitted. 6. PUBLIC AWARENESS PROGRAM Report on Public Awareness Program of NERSP has been prepared and submitted for approval. 7. PREPARATION AND REVIEW OF DOCUMENTS PC-1 form for \"Construction of PNRA Regional Offices and Labs at Islamabad (Phase- I)\" is completed and submitted to C.A for approval. PC-IV form for \"National Environmental Radioactivity Surveillance Program \" is completed and submitted to C.A for approval. Prepared brief Summary of NERSP as required by Strategic plans Division (SPD). Prepared report entitle \" Measurement of Indoor Radon Level in dwelling of Islamabad region\" and submitted for approval. Presentation of PC-IV has been prepared. Post participation report on one month training of Beta Spectroscopy at EMG PINSTECH has been prepared and submitted. Prepared radioactivity analysis report for four (04) air filter paper samples of K-1 and one (01) service sample of RNSD-III. 8. TRAINING/ WORKSHOP/ TM AND IMPLEMENTATION OF TC PROJECT Mr. Adeel Afzal, SO and Mr. Ahmad Ali, SO attended “Basic Professional Training Course 14th Level-1”. 6

9. ADMINISTRATIVE WORKPurchased necessary items to fulfill day to day needs of NERSP lab Karachi.Purchased liquid nitrogen from Linde Pakistan Pvt. Ltd., west wharfs Karachi forGamma Spectrometry System. 7
