Dear Parents, I hope that you and your families are all well and keeping safe. We have now approached the end of what has been a rather strange and unusual academic year. However, I wanted to start by thanking you parents for your fantastic support for the last year. I am particularly appreciative for everything that you have been doing to support learning from home. I know it must have been difficult to juggle working from home as well as supporting your own children with their schooling, and this is of course in addition to dealing with all of the normal challenges of family life. The school has also received a number of messages of thanks and support from so many of you over these past few days, and these are all received very gratefully. We would encourage all of our students to use the time to rest and recharge in preparation for the new academic session. Thanking you Ms Rekha Fernandes Pre-primary Coordinator 3
From the CAIE Coordinator Preprimary, the early education plays an important role in the child’s development and growth. It is an important decision for the parents to choose the right foundation that could bring high educational attainment and gains for the society. For the productive years in near future, preprimary builds a solid foundation in child’s emotional and social development. UNESCO’s approach is reinforced in the Education 2030 which aims to ‘By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care and pre-primary education so that they are ready for primary education.’ This is also the investment country makes to promote human resource development. Preprimary programme at EuroSchool aims at the holistic development of a child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs in order to build a foundation for lifelong learning. The curriculum aims to nurture caring, capable and responsible future citizens. - Ms. Ekta Arora 4 (CAIE Co-Ordinator)
Counsellor’s Lateral Thinking: thinking out of the box \"Intelligence is something we are born with. Thinking is a skill that must be learned.\" - Edward de Bono Today	it’s	raining	outside	and	when	I	suggested	cancelling	our	trip	to	the park,	my	four-year-old	niece	was	full	of	alternative	suggestions.	“All	the children	could	have	raincoats,	then	we	won’t	get	wet!” When	I	remind	her that	the	equipment	will	be	wet	and	slippery,	she	comes	up	with another	idea. “We	could	go	to	the	indoor	play	area	in	that	mall	we	visited!” My	niece’s	face	lights	up	as	she	shares	suggestions	to	solve	a	problem.	She	is in	the	age	group	where	the	majority	of minds	score	at	genius	level	in LATERAL	THINKING.	According	to	a	longitudinal	study	from	NASA,	this ability	will	decrease	as	she	gets	older,	unless	she	is	in	the	two	percent	of	the population	that	maintain	this	as	an	adult. Most	children	under	the	age	of	five	feel	safe	enough	to	throw	ideas	around, to	problem-solve,	regardless	of	how	impossible	their	ideas	may	be	or	what obstacles	might	be	in	the	way	of	fulfilling	them.	And	this	is	an	important	life skill	worth	maintaining.	Having	more	possible	solutions	to	a	problem	means we	have	more	options	when	we	ultimately	take	action	to	address	a	situation. And	having	more	options	means	having	more	freedom,	both	in	our	personal and	professional	lives. 5
Counsellor’s What	is	LATERAL	THINKING? It	essentially	means	being	able	to	think	creatively	or	\"outside	the	box\"	in	order to solve	a	problem. Usually,	logical	thinking	is	used	to	solve	problems	in	a	direct,	straightforward way	(also	known	as	vertical	thinking).	Lateral	thinking	however,	looks	at	things from	a	sideways	perspective	(also	known	as	horizontal	thinking),	in	order	to find	answers	that	aren't	immediately	apparent. When	To	Use	LATERAL	THINKING? Problem	Solving Most	real-world	problems	do	not	have	simple,	direct	solutions.	This	is where	thinking	out	of	the	box	can	come	in	handy.	Lateral	thinking	helps	to define	the	problem	in	different	ways	and,	thus,	come	up	with	a	wider	set of	solutions	to	choose	from. 6
Counsellor’s Finding	new	ways. Most	technological	advances	and	spikes	in	efficiency	have been	achieved	because	of	creative	thinking.	Lateral thinking	encourages	individuals	to	come	up	with	new	and better	ways	of	doing	the	same	things. For	Inventions	&	Innovation Lateral	thinking	is	not	just	about	improving	what	is already	there.	In	fact,	it	encourages	thinking	from	a completely	different	perspective,	and	create	something that	is	new	and	valuable. 7
Counsellor’s Ways	to	Encourage	LATERAL	THINKING in	Children Although	there	are	many	ways	to	encourage	LATERAL	THINKING in	your child,	these	four	tips	may	prove	to	be	very	useful.	To	make	it	easier	to remember	them,	I	have	coined	the	acronym	‘BITE’. So,	go	on,	and	take	a ‘bite’	of	this! 1. Brainstorm	regularly It	is	a	great	idea	to	introduce	a	family	tradition	of	brainstorming	at regular	intervals,	say	once	a	week.	Begin	by	picking	up	a	random	object, and	ask	your	children	to	list	20	different,	creative	ways	in	which	the object	can	be	used.	Once	they	are	done,	add	your	own	ideas.	You	will	be surprised	by	some	of	the	creative	ideas	that	come	up.	Doing	this	regularly for	some	time	will	enhance	your	children’s	ability	to	look	beyond	the obvious,	to	search	their	minds	for	the	most	bizarre	possibilities,	and	to come	up	with reasonable	ideas	rooted	in	reality. 8
Counsellor’s 2.	Invite	them	to	solve	puzzles	and	brain-teasers Most	children	love	intellectual	challenges.	So find	some	age-appropriate	puzzles and	brain-teasers	for	your	children	to	solve.	This	way,	you	can	make	sure	that they	are	well	on	their	way	to	developing	the	art	of	LATERAL	THINKING. 3. Teach	them	to	tune	in	to	their	senses Sensorial	inputs	are	a	big	part	of	learning	to	think	critically	and	creatively.	But, we	often	take	our	senses	for	granted.	It	is	the	same	with	our	children.	To	reverse the	negative	effects	of	neglecting	the	senses,	encourage	your	children	to	focus more	on	them.	One	simple	game	which	can	help	your	children	do	this	is	the	5-4-3 2-1	game.	This	game	can	be	played	by	children	of	all	age-groups.	Here’s	how	your children	should	play	the	game: •Look	around	and	name	five	objects	that	they	see. •Reach	out	and	touch	any	four	objects	around	them. •Close	their	eyes,	and identify	any	three	sounds	that	they	hear. •Use	their	sense	of	smell	to	pick	out	two	different	scents	around	them. •Dip	their	finger	in	some	snack,	place	it	on	the	tip	of	their	tongue	and	taste	one flavour. This	exercise	increases	mindfulness,	widens perspective,	and	enhances	creativity which,	in	turn,	helps	to	develop	LATERAL	THINKING skills. 9
Counsellor’s 4. Encourage	them	to	ask	questions Being	curious	is	the	best	part	of	childhood.	By	asking	questions,	children not	only	learn	answers	to	those	questions,	but	also	discover	that	the same	question	may	have	so	many	different	answers.	In	effect,	they	learn that	the	same	problem	might	have	many	different	solutions,	and	this	is the	cornerstone	of	LATERAL	THINKING. LATERAL	THINKING encourages	children	to	become	independent problem-solvers	and	creative	innovators.	So,	are	you	ready	to	start working	with	your	own	lateral-thinkers-in-the-making? -Smita Nair HOD(Dept of Spl Edn and Counseling) EuroSchool- Airoli 10

Words fall short when I write this !! We express our huge thanks to the entire team at Euro- be it Kalpana Madam, Rekha Madam and Teachers. The thought of getting used to an online class for our 4 year old was initially something that we dreaded but as the classes started and the days went by, we realized it was a smooth breeze. And it could only happen to a super coordination from the team and an all out efforts by all the teachers. All the kids have transitioned into matured personalities at such a young age with such a grasp on the latest technology & tools. To see all these little champs including our little one grow so immensely over the last year has been encouraging for us and it has been a refreshing and learning journey for us also as parents!!! We wish the team all the best in the future and let’s all enjoy this journey together happily!! - Abhishek & Dhara Manjrekar - (Parents of Aadhya Manjrekar – Jr.E) 24
Dear Teachers, My daughter Reva Jadhav is in Sr.B. Her journey to pre-primary section was very learning and exciting. We saw tremendous changes in her attitude and behavior during these days. She has become very talkative and confident. Thank you to the entire Euro School who has helped our kids to cross this milestone. Varada teacher and Tripti teacher was very supportive and helpful during this entire year of online classes. Special thanks to Smita ma’am, Vidya Ma’am, Madhavi ma’am, Ratnavali Ma’am, Nikhil Sir, Shardul Sir, Rekha Ma’am and Sudeshna Ma’am. Thank you, Rekha Jadhav (Parent of Reva Jadhav – Sr.B) 25
Dear Teachers, “The journey of a thousand steps, start with one small step.” Thank you teachers for being that stepping stone in my child’s life. Thank you for holding him, molding him, encouraging him towards a bright future. Your contribution is shaping life geniuses is too priceless for all of us. Lots of love & regards, Swetal Shah (Mother of Mihit Shah Sr.F) 26
Dear Teachers, We, parents, may be scientists, doctors, engineers, accountants but nothing contributes to the nation’s development more than the sacrifices made by the teachers. This year was most difficult year in the history of modern education system, although use of technology perceived it simpler. Child like Reyansh playful, naughty is tough to handle. You inspired him to come out of his shell. He love you dearly and he seems to think that you are made of magic. Thank you for being so good and patient with him. You taught our child to imagine, be inquisitive, explore, and try to solve problem on his own. We can never thank you enough for infusing positive feelings about school in him during this year. We are so grateful that our child had the opportunity to get off on the right foot for what we hope will be a lifetime love of learning. I thank you once again and wish you happy teaching ahead. Thanks & Regards, Shital & Ravi Hedau (Parents of Reyansh Hedau Sr.E) 27
Dear Teachers, No words are enough to describe the feeling of separation today and how overwhelmed I feel experiencing your compassion towards teaching. To put it in simple words I shall always be thankful to you both for helping create a strong base for my son. I was moved when I Saw Nishit giving you an emotional farewell speech in his dream last night, which itself says, a lot and I am equally worried how will he accept the change. Once again a very big thank you to both of you for all the love andblessings that you showered on Nishit which will help him grow as a better person. With Warm regards, Anuradha Gadia (Parent of Nishit Gadia – Jr.E) 28

Babloo helps bikki to fly…….
Bikki was a sweet little sparrow. But he did not know to fly. All his brothers knew how to fly. He played in the nest all day long. His mother would always tell him to learn to fly, but Bikki would not listen to his mother.
One day his mother said, “Fly, if you don’t some fox or snake will eat you up”. But Bikki would not listen to his mother. “I am afraid I will fall down,” he said and hopped around the nest.
You must try to fly. You have feathers to fly with, you will not fall down”, saying this mother pushed him from the top of the tree.
Bikki fluttered his wings and sat on the ground. He was very sad and began to cry.
Hearing him, Babloo-the cub asked Bikki-the little sparrow “Little birdy why are you crying”. Bikki replied “I am afraid to fly and my mother pushed me down. I cannot go back home.”
Babloo thought for a while and then asked Bikki not to move. He ran to the village…..
he brought a few balloons. He tied the balloons to a small stick and gave the stick to Bikki. The balloons were colourful. Bikki liked the balloons.
He held the stick with the balloons in his mouth. The balloons slowly went up in the air. Bikki was carried away along with the balloons. He was too scared to let go of the stick. He thought he would fall down.
He flapped his wings and looked down. Everything looked so beautiful from above; he thought “Oh I have missed so much?” There are so many nice things to see from here”
After a while, the balloons flew away. but Bikki did not fall down. At last, he was flapping his wings and had learnt to fly.
