ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS Parent/Assistant Help: Part 4- Number (Older) Part Four: Numbers & Shapes Who: Center Room- Assistant/Parent Helper When: January & May Supplies Needed: • Display Pages • Unifix Cubes: 3 red, 3 blue Use prompt cards and unifix cubes to complete part three. Give student unifix cubes and one pattern cards at a time. Ask them to finish the pattern. Make sure to give them all 3 patterns. Record results. ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS: • Place one prompt card in front of the student, folded into a triangle so they can only see one section at a time. • Hold their assessment on a clipboard so the student is not distracted by what you are writing. • Using the display page, follow the prompts and phrases for the assessment. • Be sure to record any notes on the side to help parents understand what students did on their own and how much you assisted. • This should be a learning time, so if students are unable to do any of it on their own, do it together-count together to 10 or 20 so they can get some practice.
ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS Circle Movie Day (May): Part 5- Reading Skills (Older) SET UP INSTRUCTIONS: Set up your assessment table to be right outside the door to the movie area. You should be able to see the students while you are assessing. Put the movie on for the students and pull them one at a time to assess. ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS: • This page is only for students you feel are ready for this challenge. It’s good for kids that are above average and on a Kindergarten level already. • Part five is to be given immediately after completing Part One and passing with flying colors. • Students do not need to be able to know everything on the reading skills section. If they are ready for the challenge, give it to them! • Follow the prompts and phrases listed on the assessment. • Be sure to record any notes on the side to help parents understand what students did on their own and how much you assisted. • This should be a learning time, so if students are unable to do any of it on their own, do it together so they can get some practice.

Store in the filing drawer until the portfolio party in May ZOOPHONICS LETTER CRAFTS- DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS • Where to write name on each page- bottom on own with crayon, hand over hand if needed. Teacher can write name with a pencil on bottom corner if needed • Make sure to trace the animal name at the top- with a crayon • It is important to use both wet glue and glue sticks during the year with these. Kids need to learn to use both! • Always track absences for these crafts and write student’s names on the bottom of a paper. Use a Ziploc bag for all the pieces. We do not do these in classes. We just send them home with them the next week to make on their own! PORTFOLIO PAGES- DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS CLASSES WITH MIXED AGES Make sure you are aware of what age students in your mixed classes are. All students going to kindergarten next year (those who will turn 5 before Sept 1st) should be given the 4/5 year old portfolios. WHAT TO DO WHEN SOMEONE DROPS OR ENROLLS MID-YEAR When a student drops mid-year we rip out their completed pages and use the portfolio for a late start student. Late start students are not expected to complete pages they missed before they were enrolled. WHAT TO DO WHEN SOMEONE IS ABSENT You are in charge of tracking this on your own and making it up! Use the method that works best for you. HOW TO STORE PORTFOLIOS Portfolios are completed in order. Place a sticky note on the cover page with the student’s name so you can see their names without having to turn to the cover every time. Keep portfolios turned to the page that they just completed or that they will be on next. No need to close the books every time we do something. The nicer we can keep these all year long the better they will look when we send it home in May. PAGE-BY-PAGE INSTRUCTIONS FOR LESSON PLANS These instructions are to ensure that all portfolios pages are completed correctly. The teacher listed for each activity is expected to complete the activity for anyone absent that day. (Only if required, see instruction for each page.) Pages that do NOT need to be made up are not pertinent to a complete portfolio for the end of year. 1. First Day Coloring Page- both age groups, September • Use flip crayons.
