Indirect Question คือ รูปแบบประโยคคำถำมทำงออ้ ม ซง่ึ ฟังดสู ภุ ำพ มำกกวำ่ Direct Question ท่ีมกั จะเป็น WH-Question หรอื Yes/No Question ท่ีจรงิ ๆ แลว้ คำตอบท่ีเรำอยำกไดค้ อื คำตอบท่ีเรำอยำก รู้ หรอื วำ่ Yes/No เหมือนกนั เลย แตฟ่ ังดแู ลว้ รน่ื หมู ำกกวำ่ ฟังดไู มโ่ ผงผำง และ ทำใหผ้ ฟู้ ังไมร่ ูส้ กึ เหมือนโดนคกุ คำมเอำคำตอบอยู่

การใช ้ Indirect Questions 1. ใน Indirect Questions เราจะเรมิ่ ประโยคดว้ ยวลี เชน่ - Could you tell me …? - Do you know …? - I was wondering …? - Do you have any idea …? - I’d like to know … / I would like to know … - Would it be possible …? (ใชก้ บั Direct Question “Can”) - Is there any chance …? (ใชก้ บั Direct Question “Can”) ***สงั เกตเครอื่ งหมาย “?” วา่ วลไี หนใชเ้ ครอื่ งหมายนีบ้ า้ งและวลไี หนไม่ ใช ้

2. ใน Indirect Questions ถา้ คาถาม is/am/are หรอื verb to be ทง้ั หลาย verb to be จะตามหลงั ประธาน (Subject) แทน ดงั ตวั อยา่ ง Direct Question: Where is Patrick? Indirect Question: Could you tell me where Patrick is? Direct Question: Why was he late? Indirect Question: Do you know why he was late? Direct Question: What is in your bag? Indirect Question: I was wonder what in your bag is.

3. เราจะไม่ใช ้ Do, Does และ Did ใน Indirect Question และเมอื่ เปลยี่ นจาก Direct เป็ น Indirect Question แลว้ Verb ทใี่ ชจ้ ะตอ้ งเปลยี่ นไปตามประธาน และ Tense ดว้ ย ดงั ตวั อยา่ ง Direct Question: When did Jerry move to New York? Indirect Question: Do you know when Jerry moved to New York? Direct Question: What do you need for breakfast? Indirect Question: I was wondering what you need for breakfast. Direct Question: When does Jane leave the hotel tomorrow? Indirect Question: Do you know when Jane leaves the hotel tomorrow?

4. หาก Auxiliary Verb คอื Have / Has อยา่ งเชน่ ใน Present Perfect Tense เราไม่ จาเป็ นตอ้ งตดั Have / Has ออก โดยทถี่ า้ หากเป็ น Direct Questions ทงั้ สองคาจะอยู่ หนา้ ประธาน แตเ่ มอ่ื เปลย่ี นเป็ น Indirect Questions แลว้ ทงั้ คจู่ ะอยหู่ ลงั ประธานแทน เชน่ Direct Question : When has she arrived here? Indirect Question : Do you know when she has arrived here? Direct Question : Where have you found my cat? Indirect Question : I was wondering where you have found my cat.

5. สาหรบั คาถามทใี่ ช ้ “Can” เมอื่ เราจะถามในลกั ษณะของ Indirect Question เราจะใชว้ ลี - Would it be possible...? - Is there any chance...? ในการนาหนา้ ประโยค ตวั อย่างเชน่

Direct Question: Can you make me an appointment with Dr. Bright? Indirect Question: Would it be possible for you to make me an appointment with Dr. Bright? Direct Question: Can we finish our assignment by next week? Indirect Question: Is there any chance we could finish our assignment by next week?

6. เมอื่ คาถามเป็ นคาถามในลกั ษณะ Yes/No Questions เราจะใช ้ If หรอื Whether ใน Indirect Questions ดงั ตวั อยา่ ง Direct Question: Is she a teacher? Indirect Question: Could you tell me whether she is a teacher (or not)? Direct Question: Is this the train for Brighton? Indirect Question: Do you have any idea if this is the train for Brighton? Direct Question: Do we have to speak English in the class? Indirect Question: I would like to know if we have to speak English in the class.
