6His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin ZayedAl Nahyan, the President of UAE hasannounced that the year 2017 will bethe “Year of Giving”, and to ensuresuccess of this initiative, effortswill focus on three major themes:strengthening social responsibilityin the private sector to play its role inserving the UAE and contributing to itsdevelopment; promoting the spirit ofvolunteerism and specialized voluntaryprograms in all segments of society toenable them to provide real services tothe UAE community and benefit fromits competencies in all fields; and tostrengthen the concept of serving thenew generations and instill the senseof belonging in all the hearts of UAEnationals and residents of the UAE.

7 A journey of Giving Dubai Economy and Omniyat launch ‘Tarmeem’ in cooperation with 19 partners to support community development projects year of giving The Department of Economic Development signed an agreement with Omniyat to launch a “Tarmeem Project” in line with the directives of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan as a part of “2017 as the Year of Giving”. The first phase of the initiative includes renovations and maintenance of the Manar Al Iman Charity Private School in Ajman to transfer it into a modern facility and promote happiness among students in a modern and healthy study environment.

A journey of Giving 8 Dubai Economy launches “DED Meer” an initiative to activate the concept ofCommunity Responsibility benefiting low income category year of giving DED launched “DED Meer” initiative to help low-income people with the participation of individuals from the private and government sectors. The initiative aims at strengthening of social responsibility as a part of “2017 the Year of Giving”, the vision launched by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. More than 95 volunteers distributed more than 400 boxes full of food items such as rice, flour, tea, coffee, juices, pasta …etc. to low income employees.March 2017

This Day aims at celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women .The Staff Council celebrated the International Women’s Day which was held on Wednesday, 08/03/2017 under the patronage and attendance of His Excellency the Director General of DED. The Director General praised the role of female employees in the achievements of the DED and thanked them for everything they provided and encouraged them to do more, and listened to their needs. The ceremony included the distribution of gifts to the female employees. The ceremony was followed by a luncheon for the female employees, where they exchanged conversation and got acquainted.March 2017

Latest News 16 Administrative Affairs Division launches several health initiatives for the employees and the work environment Article As ‫س‬part of the DED’s commitment to raise health awareness among its employees, the Administrative Affairs Division in collaboration with City Center Clinic organized the eye examination event in February 2017 through providing an ophthalmologist. The event focused on eye examination and other tests, and encouraged the employees to make early detection of eye diseases, to prevent the causes of poor vision. Also, these tests lead to higher success rates of surgery or other eye diseases. In order to keep abreast of the global events, the Administrative Affairs Division in cooperation with the Department of Kidney Diseases at Dubai Hospital organized in March 2017 the event of World kidney Day, which included the awareness about the importance of kidney health and symptoms of kidney infection.March 2017

Latest News 18Human Resources Division participates in several employment events One of the top achievements of human resources department last year was the participation of the Planning and Employment Division at the Higher College of Technology Job Fair for students in Dubai in February 2016. The aim was to promote career opportunities for graduates and attract qualified people to fill vacancies available in DED and its agencies. In early March 2017, the Department also participated in the “CV Clinic” initiative by the Higher College of Technology for female students in Dubai for the third and fourth year students. The activities included professional writing skills in Arabic and English, interview skills and Self-marketing tools along with job search strategies.March 2017

Important Information 20 Question and Answer by Staff council and HR Is it permissible to appoint a retired UAE National under a private contract? The appointment of a retired UAE National under a private contract is not permitted, since the appointment is subject to Law No. (28) of 2009 regarding the appointment of retirees in government authorities in the Emirate of Dubai and its amendments. The Article No. 4 of the above-mentioned law stipulates: “The retiree who is assigned at a government body in the emirate of Dubai, claiming a monthly allowance equivalent to the basic salary of retiree’s grade or military rank, plus all the benefits and allowances specified for the grade or military rank.” Is it permissible to appoint a retiree on a part-time basis, and what are the financial dues that are paid to him in this case? Yes, the retiree may be appointed on a part-time basis as it is not mentioned in Executive Council Resolution No. (27) of 2013 regarding the organization of part-time appointments in the Government of Dubai, what prevents him from being appointed on part-time basis. Regarding the financial dues; the remuneration which the retiree is entitled under Law No. (28) of 2009 shall be as the fixed monthly salary for part-time employees in accordance with Article 5 of Executive Council Resolution No. (27) of 2013.The salary shall be calculated in this case on the basis of the actual number of hours worked by the employee during the month. As for the allowances determined by Law No. (28) of 2009, the retiree is not allowed to receive such allowances because part time employee does not deserve such allowances and allowances.March 2017
