NEW IDEA. NEW STYLE. HEIDENS H.E Dame Heather McWilliam EXCLSUIVE INTERVIEW A Extraordinary Personality 1. Tell us something about your career! What is the main reason? For nearly twenty years, I honourably served as a Canadian police officer. I was raised in the City and as well in a small rural town outside of Toronto, Ontario Canada, the city where my father served as a police officer. My mother, who was raised on a dairy farm nearby, had also wanted to serve. But at that time, women were rarely hired. As a young girl, at the age of five, my grand father had died suddenly one day after seeing him at the farm the day prior—this began my journey in connecting my spirit, intuition with the universe combined with my investigative mindset with a desire to understand the wonders of life. I would stare at the stars, dreaming of world peace about how could I, a girl from a small town discover the great answers to life and beyond. Naturally I sought the light within myself and others, the ways to make the world and peoples lives a better place for them to live with love and peace.

NEW IDEA. NEW STYLE.When I joined the police force, I made a HEIDENScommitment to serve and protect the citizens of Canada to ensure that those who needed assistance and support would receive trust, respect, and integrity, according to the oath I swore to abide. At the age of twenty-one I was hired by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, completed training at Depot in Saskatchewan, Canada, and was assigned to serve as a police officer in Coquitlam, British Columbia Canada, which was fourteen hundred miles from my hometown. A year later, I wanted to be closer to my family and was hired by the Toronto Police Service, the largest police service in Canada. There, I quickly gained scenes and police officers, all minor and major respect within my new investigations including high profile cases that were police platoon and multi-jurisdictional on all levels and to prepare these served three years as a cases before all levels of court. I served in the Homicide coach officer, field Unit working on a wire project and as an undercover training the police officer in the Drug Unit. I had been offered permanent recruits on the road. positions at all the elite units I worked in, which is highly uncommon for policewomen. At that time, I enjoyed my service and 2. What were your difficulties that showed the excelled. I was highly projection power for the future? recognized in my performance at The most challenging obstacle was surviving toxic police providing service to culture. Throughout my entire career, I experienced Canadians as a and witnessed sexual abuse, sexual violence, and sexual detective constable in assaults within the police ranks. I also experienced and the Criminal witnessed the abuse of power, corruption, and Investigations Bureau, collusion against those who attempted to stand up to enforcing a high case these ongoing criminal acts, often involving high- load with offences ranking officers. Over time, I found the courage to no within the criminal longer work in this kind of toxic workplace code of Canada. My environment and opted to take a medical leave of duties included the absence to heal. collection of evidence, overseeing crime

NEW IDEA. NEW STYLE. At this time, I reported that I had been sexual HEIDENS abused to my police superintendent, a man with the longest length of service in my unit. I had expected support, however, what I received was an attempt to silence me, a decision that was sadly supported by other superior high-ranking officers—both male and female—the police nurse, and the police chief. Through this experience, I witnessed the highest degree of abuse of power, including all the way up to the top of the chain of command. Unfortunately, this has been occurring to policewomen as well as female citizens for decades. I believe this has has created generational trauma for all women and men within the police culture, as well as those outside of it in the community. I know there is fear that has been instilled in all those who work in this profession, which continues to be a problem today. I reported the injustices to the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, identifying violations of gender and disability rights in an attempt to prevent future harm, and in doing so made a stand to fight for all women’s rights. After a long six-year hearing, against thirty four officers testifying against myself —had a significant impact on my overall health as well through out being further targeted by the police across Canada, where they violated my right to privacy, mobility, speech, association and to be free from cruel and unusual punishment In 2020 I won a landmark human rights case that rendered findings that the police workplace was toxic for women and ordered a system to be put into place that required police leadership to commence accountable and tracking of sexual abuse violations , and to create and implement a human rights strategy. The larger difficulties was how normalized this harmful behavior had imbedded itself within policing effecting humanity, how it had become normalized through fear, ego, power and greed, and disappointingly how far society was from equality and world peace. This toxic police leadership in Canada fueled by financial and political gain had influenced the systems and those working within them. Police leadership and culture is presently in varying degrees of crisis with police associations aligning in similar abuses of power— with a serious need to rebuild for a sustainable future. 3. Can you tell us about your current projects? Recently, I have been speaking and writing publicly, as well I am involved in various uplifting motivational projects to shine a light on the need for other police officers to speak their truths, to create positive change, and to inspire an evolutionary shift for police culture to better serve our communities and themselves.

NEW IDEA. NEW STYLE.I use my enjoyment of writing to provide a lens into HEIDENSmy expertise as well as sharing my journey, which has led me to write my transformational memoir, which will publish in 2023. Here, I discuss the gaps I see within the entire police system, internally and externally as well as share my journey of healing my mind, body using holistic medicine and practices which led me to hear my soul once again, surrendering to enlightenment. It was through this path that I awakened my brave, heard my calling, accepted that mission, and followed my purpose to serve humanity. NEW IDEA. NEW STYLE. 4. What is your human mission that you think can affect people's lives? HEIDENS My mission in life is to spend each day giving back to inspire love, hope and peace in the world for all humanity. I believe this begins with inner peace and having an understanding that we have the ability to heal ourselves at a conscious and subconscious level, despite the mountains we may be climbing. I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to be able to give back to others from what once was my biggest life challenge. This opportunity allows me to inspire others to brave their fears and live their best lives. 5. Please share your encouraging message to Hoinser Media Group readers globally! We all are here to serve a purpose, and I am here to bravely share my journey of revolutionizing police culture in my country in hopes that it will inspire global change. My purpose is to share a vision of how we can support survivors of violence and heal generational trauma by bringing law enforcement and the communities it serves together. Global enlightened leadership is the path we should strive to attain. Just as it is inspiring to live our truths, it is validating for those truths to be heard. And so, as there is infinite value in being a leader of purpose, there is power in being a leader who also listens. If we seek to heal the world, we begin by listening to one another. I believe the brave within us all is beautiful, and it is there that we encourage our connection to ourselves and one another. But Heather had an early fascination with the larger picture of life through the universe and astrology, criminal psychology, and the study of human behaviour. Still, she never had any doubt that her path would mirror her parents.

NEW IDEA. NEW STYLE. HEIDENS Baroness Irina Von Behr A Inspirational Personality While most people my age (I am turning 70 this August 16th) are basking in retirement, I enjoy taking on challenges that will impact the most people. For many years I have been deeply engaged in fighting human trafficking and specifically child sex trafficking locally and globally. Back in 2016 I decided to run for political office using my own time and money. At the suggestion of my advisors, my first race was for Tempe City Council in order to get my name out and for me to learn the landscape. Subsequently, in 2018 I ran for United States Congress for my district, again using my own time and funds. In order to qualify for the ballot, a candidate must obtain signatures from voters in the district. During my campaigning, my husband of 23 years and I personally knocked on over 13,000 doors to get the signatures I needed to qualify for the ballot. Although I did not win that race, I did not give up. In fact, during my campaigning I discovered an opportunity that could have brought thousands of jobs and $9 Billion dollars to Arizona’s economy each year. It would require a change of State Legislation, and I decided the best way to accomplish that was by way of a ballot initiative.

NEW IDEA. NEW STYLE.Therefore, in 2020 I ran again for U.S. Congress as well as HEIDENSsponsored the ballot initiative, again using my own time and money for both campaigns. The ballot initiative would have reinstated a film tax credit and would have required 40% of the net tax proceeds to be paid directly to teacher salaries, another 40% would help college students with in- state tuition to our State Universities, and the last 20% would be used for State infrastructure projects at the discretion of our state government. Furthermore, this initiative would not have increased taxes to Arizona residents. This type of legislation was something that had never been done before. NEW IDEA. NEW STYLE. HEIDENS Tedx Speaker & Humanitarian Cathy Dimarchos Cathy has said her initial trip to East Africa was one of her greatest challenges but has also proven to be the most rewarding. Her time in Arusha Tanzania and whilst living with the Maasai, in Endulin Ngorongoro, building water tanks, teaching English and working in orphanages and baby crisis centres enabled her to crystalise her vision of 'paying it forward.’ The world population is expanding and rapidly so in Africa. We can no longer deny that we are contributing to the catastrophic outcomes escalating across Africa. Nor can we ignore what is in plain sight and all that is impacting humanity globally. Starvation is real, and famine will become even more widespread. The rich will become richer, and the poor will continue to become poorer. By providing meagre aid or not doing anything at all, we are not only creating class divisions in the Western world but also creating class divisions across countries. Somehow many seem to think it's ok – because it's not on our' turf.' With 10% of the poor living in Africa in 1970, we had the chance to create change for those living in impoverished conditions. Instead, we have continued doing what the West saw as right rather than what Africa actually needed. This demographic has increased exponentially over the last decade, to 75%, and alarmingly, it is predicted to reach 90% by 2030. A staggering statistic by anyone's reckoning. The Western world provides aid but leaves behind the opportunity to make each African country self-reliant and sustainable. We forget that along with aid, communities need support to keep their culture vibrant and alive and to be encouraged to lead through education. Leadership is most effective when it comes from within, with solid foundations based on shared knowledge that provides critical thinking at grassroots levels and across generations. Sadly, we have operated on the model of 'giving people a fish' rather than 'teaching people to fish.'

NEW IDEA. NEW STYLE. HEIDENS If we are to elevate humanity, we must work where it is needed the most so that we can all rise and live life from a higher baseline. We are only as strong, healthy, and smart as the weakest part of humanity, and we can no longer afford to ignore what is blatantly apparent. No matter your life's journey, know that you always have choices. A choice to leave behind what is not serving you. Choice in who you choose to be. Choice is about responding not reacting, and choice is in the ripple you create. Choose wisely where your time, energy and focus goes. Our awakenings can come at any time and in any place. The conscious intention we apply to understand them will be the greatest gift we give to ourselves and humanity at large. Remember that each of us, no matter how insignificant we may feel at times, has the potential to create many positive ripples in the world. Cathy has made several trips to Africa since 2014, supporting young leaders and entrepreneurs on the ground through Raise the Baseline, a project she developed. Through this training, individuals are given the skills they need to shape a better tomorrow – for themselves and the global community. The steps necessary to expand Cathy's vision become clearer every time she asks herself, \"What else?\" and, \"How can I think bigger?\" Staying intentionally conscious as she answers these questions has allowed her to broaden the impact she can make. You can find out more about Cathy's program, Raise the Baseline, and its ripple effect at https://www.solutions2you.com.au/raise-the-baseline Cathy is asking each of us to pause and come to the realisation that as a collective, we can make a difference, but first we must stop sleepwalking through life. NEW IDEA. NEW STYLE. HEIDENS Lara Schaeffer Exceptional Mission Lara Schaeffer began her autism advocacy work soon after being diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) in the summer of 2017. Now a Certified Autism Specialist, Lara founded Exceptional Autism Consultation in July of 2022 to help not only late- diagnosed autistic people but also their loved ones adjust to a new autism diagnosis. Until her daughter Rose was diagnosed with autism when Lara was 45 years old, Lara says she had “no inkling” that the condition even remotely applied to her. As a young child, her daughter had been screened for autism several times due to delayed speech, but she was gifted in so many other ways that Lara was told autism was no concern. What the outdated practices and inadequate screenings failed to account for are the many and varied presentations which autism can take. As we now know, many people with autism have high intelligence, or can be gifted verbally, or may have no trouble making eye contact with others. Lara acknowledges in hindsight that her daughter had some quirks which set her apart from her peers, but because she and her daughter were so much alike, those quirks didn’t seem so unusual to her. The two shared so many similarities, in fact, that when Rose ended up being diagnosed with ASD, Lara figured that she probably was autistic, too. Still, she wanted to be sure, and she was evaluated through New York University’s School of Medicine and its Langone Health System, an especially established and reputable resource for autism testing.

NEW IDEA. NEW STYLE. While indeed Lara was found to be autistic, autism had been so far from her mind for a very good reason: throughout her childhood, teen years, and early HEIDENS adulthood, she had unknowingly become very good at autistic “masking”. Masking involves a person learning and mirroring the social behaviors of those around them, as well as suppressing and hiding discomforts and reactions to unpleasant elements in the environment which can cause them great internal distress. People mask, Lara has posited, so that they can seem more like the neurotypical people that comprise the majority of society, people who do not have autism or any other form of neurodivergence like ADHD, Dyslexia, or Tourette’s. Especially for children, it is human nature not to want to stand out for the wrong reasons, and some people with autism subconsciously begin masking it so as not to stand apart in society. Then, at forty years old, Lara was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. Chemotherapy and a double mastectomy were part of her treatment plan. It was in the course of her cancer treatment, and the year and a half of complications which followed, that Lara experienced what she was only later able to recognize as the first signs of her autism in her adulthood. During her treatment and complications, Lara found herself responding with irritation much more frequently than usual and having much less patience during her interactions with others. She needed to be by herself as much as she possibly could, because even brief social encounters took too much out of her. But it wasn’t the cancer treatments and complications that were causing these changes…instead, the stress and fatigue that came along left Lara less able to mask the autism symptoms which had always been in the background for her. It was six years after her cancer diagnosis, once Lara was fully recovered, that Lara received her diagnosis of autism. In the three years that have followed, Lara has begun to fully realize how much of her energy went into masking her autism symptoms for her whole life up until that point. Cheerful small talk, patiently waiting one’s turn during conversation, expressing interest in a topic even if one didn’t really find it interesting—Lara realized that all of those took up a lot of deliberate energy for her. She also realized how problematic certain noises or smells or sounds were to her…up until her ASD diagnosis, she put great effort into ignoring and suppressing what were major discomforts for her, since no one else around her seemed to be disturbed. Yet all the while, those social conventions and sensory disturbances were causing repeated, ongoing stress and anxiety for her throughout every day of her life. Knowing that it was because of her masking that her autism went undiagnosed for so long, Lara is now committed to helping other individuals, especially females, who may be like she was…autistic but completely unaware of it. She is also dedicated to de-stigmatizing the condition and to spreading awareness of the varying presentations autism can take. Autism doesn’t look any one way, Lara wants us to know, and autistic people don’t act any one way. With greater understanding of autism, society will not only become a more welcoming place for autistics, everyone will then be able to benefit from the unique gifts autistic individuals stand to give.

I grew up a military child as my dad was in the US Army. My earliest memories were spending time with my mother who was a stay at home. I watched her prepare meals for the family and decorate the house. She had then and still now an amazing work ethic that inspires me to this day. I was excited for my dad to come home from work to play Barbie’s and have tea parties. My favorite dining experience was going eating at Chi Chi’s. At 5 y.o. my family was stationed in GA. I started Kindergarten and I was more introverted back then. I also went to an afterschool program. My family joined the church on base, I sang in the choir, got saved and baptized there. After choir practices, I went shopping at the mall and eat pretzels, pizza, and candy. School Blues First and second grade, I began to struggle in school academically. I had difficulty comprehending reading and math. I didn’t want to ask for help of fear and judgment. Because of this I felt left behind from classmates in progressing. I let my parents know about my challenges. They were very supportive and provided encouragement. They meet with my teacher to address their concerns. Childhood Interest (Some) During the summer, I developed new interest in dance and music. My favorite music growing up was R&B, Pop, and Gospel. I listened to the radio as I decorated posters in my room with fav artists. I enjoyed basketball player Allen Iverson. I watched soap operas with Mom and watched her cook the potato salad recipe from my late grandmother’s mom. I watched my dad work outside and played board games with my sister. New school I started third grade at a new school. I was often distracted in class when I didn’t comprehend the subject. I was quiet and didn’t want to raise my hand. I dreaded having to bring home failing grades on my progress reports. My parents encouraged me and instilled self-esteem in me and helped me with my homework, along with my sister. I did well in the 4th and 5th grade. I had supportive teachers who encouraged & recognized my struggles. I felt more comfortable asking for help, became confident, and made friends. Summer before Middle S. My 1st job was watering in my neighborhood. Start of Middle S. The first year I was social and made new friends, but wasn’t a follower or needed to fit in. I joined the chorus and was selected for state chorus. At home, I journaled my hopes and dreams, attending Duke University and becoming a Meteorologist.

NEW IDEA. NEW STYLE.8th grade (Last Middle S.) HEIDENS I focused on academics and preparing for high school. I was given the Citizenship Award for my grade and team. My sister received the same award years prior too. High School I barely knew anyone and did not like Algebra. My parents wanted to assist and took Algebra classes for parents and were featured on the cover of the local paper. I had my 1st bullying experience on the bus from 3 boys from my neighborhood. I never talked to them, and they felt I was an easy target. They talked about my appearance which (was a medium size build then). I called my mom every time it happened, and she provided support when I needed her. One day I stood up to them. They laughed at me, and I later told my dad. He went to the boy’s parent about it. The boy apologized to my dad, and the principal warned the other boys. The bullying stopped not long after and the next school year was better. Final HS Year During the summer I took classes to prepare for the graduation test. I failed the science portion twice the before and with God’s help on the third attempt. I decided to major in psychology in college instead of being a meteorologist. I would be attending CVCC in AL. Community College yr. ½ My college experience was different. I stayed at home and took ore classes equivalent to high school. The second year, I was placed on academic probation. I wrote a letter to be reinstated. In the letter, I expressed that I would work hard to improve my grades and ask for help when needed. I broke my old habit of not asking for help and was reinstated. My professors were very supportive. The next year, I graduated with my liberal arts degree and transferred to Troy to finish my bachelor’s degree. Troy Undergrad I succeeded there and enjoyed having hybrid classes. I learned about psychology and completed group projects. I didn’t struggle academically and excelled in my courses with a high GPA. I recognized that I was able to comprehend in subjects of my interest. This was probably the cause of my earlier academic struggles throughout the years. I graduated with my Bachelor of Science degree. Graduate School I continued my education at Troy and majored in clinical mental health counseling. Even though a few classes were challenging, I did well in my Research Methodology class. An alumni stated it was the hardest class, so I waited to the end to take it. I completed a research proposal and chose a dating violence prevention program. My professor told my peers to use my paper as a guide to get an A. I was humbled and grateful considering how far I have come. I had to complete a practicum and internships before graduating. I had a difficult time finding a site, until one day my mom asked someone at work. My mom’s co-worker told her about Ultimate Support Services and the co-worker called there. Ultimate Support said I could start right away. I thanked God for his favor because I probably would have missed a semester of school. I interned at a girls group home and completed assessments and treatment plans. Counseling was challenging in the beginning, but I built great rapport with my clients

NEW IDEA. NEW STYLE.I reported to my counseling supervisor every week to approve my working hours. I failed the counseling exam to graduate twice. I had to pass on my third and last attempt. To HEIDENS prepare I studied with intern supervisor and internship friend. They lowered the passing score before I took my exam. I took the test and prayed to God I passed. Hours later I received the news, I passed and was beyond grateful and cried tears of joy. I graduated with my Master’s in Counseling and Psychology. Postgraduate I passed my counseling licensing exam on my second attempt. I would have to be supervised for 3 years and obtain hours before becoming fully licensed. I started looking for jobs but wanted to have the right fit. I heard of a place called Cedar Tree Family and Children Services and was excited to apply. The interview went well, and I was hired shortly after. I went through trainings and got license for my current business Elevating Minds. I work with at risk youth in the community. Some of these children come from diverse backgrounds with many challenges, that affect their everyday lives. During COVID, I started telemental health counseling with them. 2021 I contacted and advocated to US Senators Raphael Warnock & Jon Ossoff about mental health funding and legislation. I received letters back from them thanking me for supporting now current laws in my state. I was named on the top Healthcare Professionals of 2021-2022, by premier biographer Marquis Who’s Who in America. I participated in the film “My Brother’s Keeper” (2020) starring: TC Stallings, Keisha Knight Pulliam, & Joey Lawrence. About a soldier returning home from war battling with PTSD. 2022 I became licensed professional counselor in my state. Personal/Purpose My previous dating relationship after graduation made a significant impact in my life and was a catalyst to make the person I am today. Through my healing process, I turned my past pain into purpose starting my coaching business Worthy of Grace, LLC. “In my business I help single ambitious women heal from past relationships to rediscover confidence & become the best version of yourself”. I encourage them to see there worth & value comes from God. Future Continue coaching women and work with youth on confidence & relationships.
